ESPN has released its broadcast schedule for the 2014 NFL season.

ESPN opened the 2013 season with a double header and will do so again for the 2014 season. ESPN will open its Monday Night Football regular season broadcast schedule with a double header on September 8th. The first game on the night will see the New York Giants on the road against the Detroit Lions. The game will be the first MNF game to be broadcast from Detroit since September 1971. Mike Tirico will anchor the broadcast and will have play-by-play duties. He will be joined by analyst Jon Gruden in the booth and Lisa Salters on the sidelines. The trio will also handle all MNF games, which will begin at 8:15pm ET. Kickoff for all of ESPN’s MNF games is scheduled for 8:30pm ET.

The second game on ESPN’s double header slate for Monday, September 8th will see the Arizona Cardinals hosting the San Diego Chargers at 10:15pm ET. It will come live from the University of Phoenix Stadium, which will also play host to the 2015 Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XLIX. The 2015 Pro Bowl will be broadcast on ESPN.

Now in its 45th season, Monday Night Football’s 2014 season will feature all twelve teams from the 2013 NFL Playoffs. This includes the 2013 NFL Champion Seattle Seahawks and AFC Champion Denver Broncos. The Seahawks will take on the Washington Redskins on ESPN’s MNF broadcast October 6th while the Broncos will face off against the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati on December 22nd.

Eight NFL organizations will each have two games broadcast nationally on ESPN’s MNF. Those teams are the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, New York Giants, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Washington Redskins. Speaking of the Redskins, Washington will renew its long held rivalry with the Dallas Cowboys once again in the 2014 NFL regular season. Washington and Dallas will meet on October 27th at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The meeting will be the 16th between the two teams; second only to the rivalry between the Raiders and Broncos, who have met seventeen times.

All of ESPN’s MNF games can be seen both on television on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, and online via WatchESPN. Additional MNF “game around the game” content will be available daily across ESPN’s various platforms including Monday Night Countdown and SportsCenter before and after each game. The Band Perry Receives Two ACM Award Nominations

Good news for The Band Perry.  The superstar country music trio has been nominated for two ACM Awards.

The announcement was made this week that the band has been nominated for “Vocal Group of the Year” and “Music Video of the Year.”  The second of the nominations from the Academy of Country Music is for the video for the band’s #1 single, ‘Better Dig Two.’  That song was also the lead single from the band’s latest album, Pioneer.  This year marks the third consecutive year that The Band Perry has been nominated for “Vocal Group of the Year.”  It is the fourth consecutive year that the trio has received nominations from the Academy of Country Music.  The band’s biggest year to date was 2011.  It was that year that the band received five total ACM nominations.  It won the award that year for “New Artist of the Year.”

Reid Perry spoke on behalf of the band after the announcement.  He expressed the band’s excitement of being nominated again, and getting to come to Las Vegas again.  Las Vegas is the home of the ACM Awards, which will be broadcast on CBS April 6th on CBS.  “It’s such an honor to find out about our two ACM Award nominations,” he said.  “We love the theatrics that happen in Vegas, and remember, what happens in Vegas … gets broadcast on live TV.”

The announcement of the band’s latest nominations comes at a high time for the band as it is scheduled to perform live on Fox as part of the network’s Super Bowl pre-game party.  The band will perform alongside American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips.  Reid’s brother and fellow band mate Neil jokingly discussed the band’s anticipation of playing the pre-game show and being back in temperatures above zero.  “We’re all huge football fans, and there’s nothing more exciting than to be a part of football’s biggest day,” he said. “We’ve been up in Canada on our We Are Pioneers World Tour for the past month, so we’re just glad it will be above zero degrees in New York!”

The band won’t be slowing down any time soon after its performance this weekend on Fox.  That performance is just part of its ongoing North American tour in support of Pioneer.  It will be in Independence, MO next Thursday, February 6th.  The band also has a planned performance later this Spring in North Carolina.  It is scheduled to perform live in Cherokee, North Carolina on Friday, April 25th at the Harrah’s Cherokee.  The band’s latest schedule of performances is listed below.

Caparello, Muriqi Headline ESPN2/ESPN Deportes’ “Superbrawl”

Courtesy: ESPN

This weekend is going to be a big weekend for sports fans.  Unless one has been living under a rock, one knows that the Superbowl will come live from MetLife Stadium this weekend.  Before this Sunday’s big game, ESPN and ESPN Deportes will broadcast Friday Night Fights and Noche de Combates live from the Richard J. Codey Arena in West Orange, New Jersey.  This is only twenty miles from the sight of this year’s Super Bowl.

Undefeated Light Heavyweight contender Blake “Il Capo” Caparello (18 – 0 – 1, 6 KOs) will take on Elvir “The Kosovo Kid” Muriqi (40 – 5, 24 KOs) in the main event of this Friday’s edition of Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra and Noche de Combates presented by Corona Extra.  The pair will face off in a ten-round fight live at 9pm ET on ESPN2 as well as online ESPN Deportes+ and WatchESPN.  ESPN Deportes will rebroadcast Friday’s fight Sunday afternoon at 2am ET.  This week’s fight is presented by Dibella Entertainment.

Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas will have the ringside call for ESPN2 and WatchESPN.  Todd Grisham will have all of the latest boxing news and highlights live in studio.  Delvin Rodriguez and Pablo Viruega will call the night’s match for ESPN Deportes and ESPN Deportes+.  They will be joined in studio by Leopoldo Gonzales and Claudia Trejos.  Bernardo Osuna will have live interviews for both English and Spanish language networks.

This week’s main event is the U.S. debut for the Australian Caparello.  Caparello defeated Allan Green in twelve rounds in his most recent fight thanks to a unanimous decision from the fight judges.  Muriqi is also looking to stay in the win column this week.  The New Yorker comes into tonight’s fight on the heels of an eight-round majority decision win over Paul Vasquez in his most recent fight.  Muriqi was confident about this week’s fight when asked about facing Caparello.  “When you fight a lefty, you can never look great but as long as I win, that’s what matters,” Muriqi said. “I’m pretty good with lefties and think I’m going to surprise a lot of people.”  Caparello on the other hand was more grounded in his thoughts about facing Muriqi.  “I’m a boxer-mover. I like to use angles, long punches and quick hands,” Caparello said. “Elvir (Muriqi) is a strong, solid fighter. We’ve had a good look at him. He’s the type, if we want to make an impression, we have to beat him good. That’s our plan.”

Friday’s main event between Muriqi and Caparello will be preceded by a pair of co-features.  The first of the night’s co-features will pit undefeated Welterweight Dusty Hernandez-Harrison (19 – 0, 11 KOs) against Tim Witherspoon, Jr. (10 – 3 – 1, 2 KOs).  Witherspoon is the son of former Heavyweight Champion Tim Witherspoon, Sr.

The second of the evening’s co-features is an eight-round fight between undefeated Featherweight Luis “KO King” Rosa (15 – 0, 7 KOs) and Jorge Diaz (17 – 2, 10 KOs).  Rosa looks to keep his win streak going this week.  He comes into this week’s fight on the heels of a third-round TKO over Andre Wilson.  Diaz is on the other side of the fence.  He is looking to get back in the win column after losing to Yenifel Vicente in a fourth-round TKO in his most recent bout.  The upcoming schedule for ESPN’s Friday Night Fights presented by Corona Extra and ESPN Deportes’ Noche de Combates presented by Corona Extra is listed below.

Upcoming Schedule:

Date Time (ET) Main Event Location Networks

ESPN Winding Down Latest Group Of 30 For 30 Films

Courtesy: ESPN

ESPN is wrapping up its latest group of films in its 30 for 30 series.  The network will air the penultimate episode from this installment of the series tomorrow night, October 30thGhosts of Ole Miss will air tomorrow night at 8pm EST on ESPN/ESPN HD.  The film focuses on the racial tensions on the campus of Ole Miss as James Meredith was set to become the university’s first ever African American student in the fall of 1962.  The impact of Meredith’s acceptance into the university reverberated all the way to the nation’s capital and then president John F. Kennedy.

Along with becoming the university’s first African American student, Meredith also joined the university’s football team.  The team would go on to one of its best seasons in team history.  That success would play directly into the overall racial tensions at the university.  Meredith himself is interviewed for tomorrow night’s feature, along with a number of others.  The interviews culled for this feature put everything into perspective and lead Ghost of Ole Miss to really hit home.

As with ESPN’s previous 30 for 30 features, this one will also be accompanied by a short in the 30 for 30 Shorts collection.  This time, the bonus short–presented by ESPN and grantland.com—focuses on author Alfred Slote’s book, JakeJake is a children’s book about a young African American boy with the dream of one day being a big league baseball star.  Slote himself is interviewed in the new 30 for 30 short.  A bonus article written by Bill Simmons joins the feature.  Simmons and friend Jonathan Hock worked together for the complete feature.  Audiences can check out that feature now online at http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/8538119/jake

For all updates on ESPN’s 30 for 30 series, audiences can go online to espn.com/30for30, http://www.facebook.com/espn30for30, or http://twitter.com/30for30.  The final installment in this group of films in ESPN’s 30 for 30 series is titled, You Don’t Know Bo.  It will air on ESPN/ESPN HD on Saturday, December 8th at 9pm.
