This summer PBS and Public Media Distribution will release another new episode of PBS’ hit series Secrets of the Dead on DVD.
On Tuesday, July 19th, PBS and Public Media Distribution will release Secrets of the Dead: Teotihuacan’s Lost Kings on DVD. The roughly hour-long presentation follows researchers as they strive to uncover the mystery of what happened to the once great city. At one point, it was one of the world’s biggest cities. But then it was abandoned only a couple of centuries after having been founded. To this day, questions still arise as to what happened to the people of the once thriving metropolis. In 2003, Dr. Sergio Gomez Chavez, led an expedition to examine the fate of Teotihuacan’s people. In searching for answers, he discovers a crack in the city’s famed Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent that leads to an even more surprising discovery; a discovery that could change everything that people know about the city. “I have been working for 34 years in Teotihuacán and am about to uncover the mystery of the City of the Gods,” he said. “Every archaeologist dreams of a moment like this.” What Chavez discovered was a tunnel beneath the temple. It was a tunnel that went directly underneath the temple, which sits at the very center of the city. “I came to the conclusion that the tunnel had been sealed to bury something or someone at the end of it – directly under the pyramid — I thought it could be a ruler or a king,” he said of the tunnel’s discovery. So did Chavez and company indeed find the final resting place of one of the city’s rulers? Or was it something even more shocking? What else can be taken from the discovery? It is all in this new episode of Secrets of the Dead.
Secrets of the Dead: Teotihuacan’s Lost Kings will be available on DVD on Tuesday, July 19th. It will retail for MSRP of $24.99. It can be pre-ordered at a discounted price of $19.99 online via PBS’ online store. A trailer for this episode of Secrets of the Dead can be viewed there, too.
