The 2016 – ’17 NFL season is officially underway. With the start of the new season also comes the start of a new season of ESPN’s Monday Night Football.

ESPN launches its 2016 – ’17 season of Monday Night Football next Monday, Sept. 12 with a double-header showcase beginning at 6:55p.m. as the Redskins host the Steelers.  The game marks the third time that ESPN has opened a season of MNF in the nation’s capitol.

The second game on the schedule for the night will see the Los Angeles Rams on the road against the San Francisco 49ers. Coverage of that game begins at 10:15pm ET.  The game is the regular season debut for the Rams who just moved back to Los Angeles during the offseason.  The Rams played in St. Louis from 1995 until the 2015 season.  Before that, the team had previously called Los Angeles home.

Ahead of Monday night’s season-opening double header Suzy Kolber will host a special two-hour edition of ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown beginning at 5pm ET.  The broadcast will air live on-site from FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland.  She will be joined at the desk by the new analyst team of Trent Dilfer, Matt Hasselbeck, Randy Moss, and Charles Woodson for the broadcast.  Meanwhile Chris Berman, Steve Young, and Lindsay Czarniak will be live at Levi’s Stadium for the matchup between the Rams and 49ers.  ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter will be live from ESPN’s studios in Bristol, CT for the broadcast.

Kolber will anchor halftime coverage of Game 1 with her broadcast partners while Trey Wingo will anchor halftime coverage of Game 2.  He will be joined by Herm Edwards live from Bristol, CT. Steve Levy will anchor post-game coverage from Washington.

Leading up to Monday night’s season premiere of MNF ESPN will offer extensive coverage beginning at 12:30pm ET with NFL Primetime.  The full schedule for the day’s coverage is noted below.
