The Still, Small Voice Offers Entertainment, Inspiration In New Single, ‘Roller Rink’

Independent music act The Still, Small Voice debuted its new single this week.

The group, formed by Philadelphia, PA-based singer-songwriter Christiana Benton released its new single ‘Roller Rink‘ Wednesday through Know Hope Records.  The gentle, flowing arrangement a the song highlights Benton’s roots in Nashville, TN with its subtle slide guitar.

The simple, acoustic the song’s arrangement gives song a sound the lends itself to comparisons to music from Mazzy Star just as much as from perhaps Martina McBride. The song’s four-minute-plus run time feels every bit of that time due to the overall approach to the song’s composition, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.  Audiences will still remain engaged thanks to the storyteller fashion in which Benton delivers the song’s lyrics alongside that musical content.

The song’s lyrical content adds its own interest to its presentation as it presents someone who is looking back at specific incidents in her life that were negative.  The song is meant to be a retrospection on Benton’s own life and to serve as an allegory for listeners, reminding them that despite life’s trials  and tribulations, there is a plan for all of us all.  This is especially understood as Benton closes by reminding audiences that even with negative experiences happening to us in life, “the best is yet to come.”  It is a message that will connect with any listener, and in turn adds to the song’s appeal.

‘Roller Rink’ is the first preview of The Still, Small Voice’s forthcoming as-yet-untitled new album, which is due out later this year.  The record’s release date and other related information will be released at a later time.

‘Roller Rink’ is available to stream and download now through Spotify, YouTube, Google Play and Amazon.
