Hannah Williams & The Affirmations debuted a cover of a famous Nirvana song this week.

The group debuted its cover of Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box’ Friday.  The song, available to stream and download here, is a stark contrast to its source material.

Whereas Nirvana’s original was a heavy, gritty song, Hannah Williams & The Affirmations’ take on the song presents horns and keyboards, giving the cover a distinct hybrid lounge/soul sound.  Williams’ own vocal delivery adds its own touch to the cover, making it an even more unique take on the song.

Hannah Williams & The Affirmations discussed its cover in a collective statement.

“This release is an ode to the world and its struggles,” the statement reads.  “A nod to the past but also a move into the future, and most of all a tribute to all the amazing people who continue to not only support our band but also all the important messaging and movements we try to encourage through our art and influence.”

The cover’s debut comes three months after the group debuted the video for its then latest single, ‘Hourglass.’  ‘Hourglass’ is the third single from Hannah Williams & The Affirmations’ latest album 50 Foot Woman.

The album also produced the singles ‘I Feel It‘ and ‘50 Foot Woman.’   The latter of the pair was also featured in Ifiniti’s recent campaign for its QX30 car.
