Independent musical collective Sluka debuted the video for its latest single this week.
The group, founded and fronted by Christopher Sluka, debuted the video for its take on the classic song ‘Iko Iko‘ Thursday. The song is taken from Sluka’s latest album Ready To Connect.
The video features Sluka and his band mates — Anna Eppink (bass), Natalie Mouzooni (drums), and Alexandra holt (vocals) — performing the single in what comes across as a sort of aboriginal-style setting, complete with fire and face paint.
The musical arrangement featured in the song takes the Dixie Cups’ take on the song (originally crafted by James “Sugar Boy” Crawford and his Cane Cutters) and gives it a whole new, heavier and darker identity. Sluka’s take on the classic tune puts the song into something of a neo-folk rock setting, complete with forceful vocal delivery from Sluka himself and heavy, plodding drums and guitars. It is a unique new presentation on a timeless song.
