Independent rock band Iglu & Hartly is back with a new single and video.

The band debuted its single ‘Cooler‘ and the song’s companion video Friday. The song and its companion video are the first from the band in more than a decade. The band rose to fame upon its formation, even taking honors with some of its music, but went on hiatus in 2010 before reuniting in August 2019 for California’s Hermosa Beach Summer Series.

The video for ‘Cooler’ is set along a California beach in which a man steals a cooler and is chased by a female lifeguard. Eventually the woman catches the man and proceeds to try to get him into the cooler as she drags it back down the boardwalk. The video, which features an intentionally homemade look helps tell the story presented in the song’s lyrical content.

Front man Jarvis Anderson explained the concept behind the song and its lyrical theme.

“Cooler is told from the perspective of a guy that is set on winning over a girl who rejected him in the past,” he said. “I love how the throwback synths and guitars rise as his story gathers fun, frenetic momentum.”

The synths that Anderson noted are part of a whole that gives Iglu & Hartly’s new single a sound that will appeal to fans of the pop and pop rock sounds that bridges the late 1980s and early 1990s.
