Wiretap Records Adds Space Cadet To Its Roster; Band Announces New LP Title, Release Date; Debuts Album’s Lead Single, Video

Things are looking up for indie/college rock act Space Cadet as 2020 winds down and 2021 nears its opening.

The band announced this week that it has signed with independent record label Wiretap Records. The band’s addition to the label’s roster puts the act alongside bands, such as Aree and the Pure Heart, In Parallel, and 18th & Addison.

With the signing, the band has announced it is expecting to release its new album Lion on a Leash March 26 through Wiretap Records. The album was produced by Pete Steinkopt (Bouncing Souls).

In anticipation of the album’s release, the band has premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Forever For A While’ and its video Tuesday. The single will be available to stream and download starting Friday here.

Vocalist Matt Hock shared his thoughts on the album and single in a recent interview.

“By the time the world shut down, we had four songs written and ‘Forever For A While’ was the first,” said Hock. “We just kept pulling at that thread, experimenting more and more until we had an album. In a very real way, the song was the catalyst for all of that, and for the band itself. But it can also just be seen as what happens when obsessive lunatics get their hands on some reverb pedals.”

The video for ‘Forever For A While’ features Hock and his band mate David Walsh performing their new single against a backdrop of very psychedelic imagery, such as random art work, video altered nature scenes, and mirrors in which the duo appears.

As noted, the musical arrangement featured in ‘Forever For A While’ presents a sound that echoes the indie-college sounds of the late 80s and early 90s. That is evident through the pairing of the vocals and guitars with the bass and drums. The lyrical content that accompanies the song’s musical arrangement will connect with listeners in its own way.

Lion on a Leash will feature guest appearances by Brian Baker (Bad Religion, Dag Nasty, Minor Threat), Mike Sneeringer (The Loved Ones), Matt Olsson (Dave Hause, Frank Iero, Brian Fallon), and Chris Gonzalez (The Explosion/The Loved Ones).
