Independent rock band Parts Per Million debuted its latest single this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Find The Light‘ Thursday, along with its companion video, which was premiered through Ghost Cult Magazine. The song features a steady, brooding musical arrangement that reaches its peak in the choruses. It is a stylistic approach and resultant sound that echoes influences of Haken, Leprous, and other similar acts.

The juxtaposition of the more brooding verses and the more powerful choruses is a familiar approach to songwriting, and does well here as it pairs with the song’s lyrical theme.

Front man Paul McSweeney talked about the song’s heavily philosophical and theological theme during a recent interview.

“This song was always special to me,” he said. “I held the guitar and vocal part for years, with only the ideas that the song grew in to. When we brought it to Kevin at Halo, we had no words for it, and weren’t really sure if it would get done. We talked amongst ourselves about incorporating death, the upside down from Stranger Things, and the other side, or afterlife. The final thought became about one singular moment. The last consciousness, slipping into the final unconsciousness.”

He added, “How powerful is the love you share with the people that mean the most to you?
Does it conquer all things of this life? Does it transcend time? If you don’t believe in something beyond this life, do you believe that there is somewhere special for that person when they are gone? What if it’s only in our hearts and minds? What if that’s the same thing? These are the places we want to take the people who watch our video. It’s a powerful message about love, and the hope that it’s waiting on the other side.”

The ‘Find The Light’ video features the song’s subject imagining he is seeing his lost loved one everywhere he goes, from standing at a bus stop, waiting for a ride, to being with him as he brushes his teeth, to other situations. The reality of the situation will be left for viewers to learn on their own. It works well with the theme which McSweeney discussed.
