Memphis May Fire Debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band premiere the video for its single, ‘Blood & Water’ Thursday through Rise Records. The song and its video are the first from the band since the release of its album Broken in 2019. That album produced the singles ‘The Old Me,’ ‘Heavy is the Weight (ft. Andy Mineo)‘ and ‘You and Me.’

Front man Matty Mullins talked about the debut of the band’s new song and its video in a prepared statement.

“With everything that’s happened over the last year, it feels surreal to be releasing new music,” said Mullins.  “Creating during a pandemic came with a lot of challenges, but looking back, I think we needed that time off the road to fall in love with writing songs again. ‘Blood & Water’ is just a taste of what’s to come and we couldn’t be more excited for the world to finally hear it.”

The video for Memphis May Fire’s new single features the band performing its new single in a darkened studio setting that is illuminated only by a wall of TV monitors. It is preceded by a warning that the video has the potential to cause epileptic seizures.

The musical arrangement featured in the single is everything that audiences have come to expect from Memphis May Fire. That is exhibited through the balance of the heavier and more melodic elements. The addition of the keyboards and electronics to the mixx gives the song even more impact.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the video and song’s debut. A close listen though, reveals that the song seems to focus on someone who is addressing another person who is addressing a mentally and verbally abusive family member, and telling that person he/she is done with that negative influence.. That is especially hinted as Mullins screams in the chorus, “Blood is not thicker than water.”

Speaking of abuse, Memphis May Fire has partnered with the Bridges DVC Nashville to launch two new merchandise designs. One hundred percent of the sales from the designs will go to benefit the center, which serves men, women, and children affected by domestic violence in the greater Nashville, TN region.
