Death Dealer premiered the lyric video for its latest single this week.
The band debuted the lyric video for its new single, ’22 Gone Today’ Tuesday. The single is the fifth single from the band’s latest album, Conquered Lands (2020). Its premiere and that of its video follows that of the album’s existing singles, ‘The Heretic Has Returned,’ ‘Every Nation,’ ‘Running With the Wolves,’ and ‘Sorcerer Supreme.’
According to front man Sean Peck, the song’s lyrical theme takes on the topic of suicides among military personnel.
“When I was researching the song, I was blown away by this shocking number of tragic losses that happen each day,” said Peck. “This video brings attention to it in a very powerful way. Even though it was a ballad, this song was a surprise hit with the critics and our fans so we decided to give it the video treatment.”
Guitarist Stu Marshall expanded on his band mate’s comments with his own thoughts.
“I feel passionately about our combat agencies and respect the fact these people put their lives on the line every day for our liberties and freedoms, said Marshall. “Australian and American troops have stood shoulder to shoulder for decades and this song resonates the sadness of soldier suicide and why we need to support our troops in every way we can.”
The video for ’22 Gone Today’ features the song’s lyrics placed over imagery, such as soldiers and former soldiers in settings that find them contemplating the topics addressed in those noted lyrics. The whole thing ends with a reminder and offer of help to veterans who are dealing with depression, complete with phone number for the Military Crisis Line.
As noted by the band members in their comments, the musical arrangement featured in the song is a subdued, contemplative ballad. It does well to translate the emotion in the song’s lyrical theme and illustrate the thoughts and emotions through which so many veterans battle daily.
