Independent singer-songwriter Gary Hector’s new album, National Trash is available now.

The album released Tuesday. Hector’s solo debut, it was produced and mixed by Sean Adrian Bartholomew and recorded and mastered by Martin Mice Raymond. In anticipation of the album’s release, Hector premiered the video for the album’s lead single, ‘Today I Ride Alone‘ June 28.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Today I Ride Alone’ is a simple semi-acoustic work. The twang in the guitars and even the echo of the slide guitar immediately lends it to comparison to the old country songs that one might expect to hear in the honky tonk joints of old. It will really instill a welcome sense of nostalgia in audiences who are familiar with that vintage sound. Meanwhile, Hector’s own vocals at times offer a certain ashy sound that is comparable to the delivery style of folk/rock legend Bob Dylan.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the album’s release. However, the theme is relatively clear. This is a cowboy type song that harkens back to, again, days long gone. It is sung from the vantage point of one of those cowboys who embraces the solitude of the plains.

Hector talked about the song’s creation in a prepared statement.

When I wrote the single, “Today I Ride Alone”, I found myself setting the track up as straight and to the point,” he said. “Written in mood, and armed with potent lyrics. The single was a perfect opening track and first release for my album, National Trash, a hauntingly beautiful slice of Americana, with shades of classic country and classic rock n roll.”

The video for ‘Today I Ride Alone’ is as simple as the song and its lyrical theme. It featured Hector on a fake horse in front of a video screen to make it look like he is out on the range, riding alone under the open skies.

Hector was joined by John Heinrich (pedal steel) and Nikki Nelson Welcher (vocals) for the song.
