Rush marks a special anniversary this year and is celebrating said anniversary in unique fashion.

The band is marking the 40th anniversary of the release of its 1981 album, Moving Pictures. The record peaked at #3 in the U.S. and UK upon its release. It reached #1 in the band’s home nation of Canada and remains the band’s highest-selling album of all time, selling a total of 5 million copies just in the United States.

The album also produced the hit singles, ‘Tom Sawyer,’ ‘Limelight’ and Vital Signs,’ while the equally popular instrumental, ‘YYZ’ earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

Now in celebration of the album’s release, its remaining members, Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee, have partnered with photographer Deborah Samuel to sell previously unreleased, limited edition prints of photos captured during the photo shoot for the album’s art. Samuel captured the artwork for that album as well as other Rush albums, Permanent Waves, Signals, and ExitStage Left.

The three previously unreleased front and back cover photos are available along with 12 alternate interior art photos of Lee and Lifeson at a price of $125 each.

Lee talked about the photos, which are part of a fundraiser for the nonprofit organization Grapes For Humanity in a prepared statement.

“I’m very thankful to Deborah for generously making these rare photographs available to our fans, the proceeds of which will help bring sight to the sightless,” said Lee.

Lifeson expanded on Lee’s statement.

“I clearly remember the day Deborah set up for this cover, and especially the interior series of the ‘Moving Pictures’ photographs,” said Lifeson. “I was jumping around in the dark with a bright strobe flashing away, which was disorienting to say the least, but the results fit so well with the album concept, and I loved the final photos she produced. I’m thrilled to revisit them and make the covers and these interior photos available in support of Grapes For Humanity.”

The humanitarian organization is working with The Genius 100 Foundation‘s Gift of Sight Campaign and Himalayan Cataract Project. The groups are working to combat curable and preventable blindness around the world.
