Independent alt-pop punk band Pretty Pretty Awful debuted its new single and video this week.
The band premiered its new single, ‘Mostly Ghostly‘ and its companion video Friday. The song and its video are the first from the band’s forthcoming debut EP. The band is considering the EP’s release date.
The musical arrangement featured in ‘Mostly Ghostly’ is an interesting presentation. Front man Anthony Powers’ vocal delivery is reminiscent of that of Boysetsfire front man Nathan Gray. Meanwhile, the arrangement’s instrumentation presents a familiar pop punk sensibility. The pairing gives the whole an overall presentation that will engage and entertain audiences.
According to information presented about the song, it is lyrically about “the fear of death and more specifically, how scary it would be to not let the person you love know you were still with them after you’re gone.”
Powers explained that concept.
“I believe in ghosts,” he said. “I mean, the house I grew up in was haunted. It felt like the sort of song I needed to write in case I ever find myself in that situation. I think it also can relate to feeling like a ghost in any sort of relationship, romantic or familial or whatever. Feeling like you’re unseen, like you’re gone without being gone, but holding onto the hope that if you can just find a way to do something tangible, maybe they’ll see you again.”
The song’s lyric video is its own unique presentation. It places the song’s lyrics over an old silent movie as the song plays over the visualization. The movie’s title is not noted in the information about the video. No information was provided about the movie in the press release announcing the debut of the song and video.
