Reminders offered audiences yet another preview of its new album this week.

The band debuted its new single, ‘Post Paris Blues‘ and its companion video Friday. The song is the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, Best of Beach Punk, which is scheduled for release April 1 through Wiretap Records and Venn Records in the U.K. Album pre-orders are open in the U.S. and UK.

The album has also produced the single,  ‘If You Want It (Don’t Let Me Down)‘ and its companion video, and the lead single, ‘Carousel‘ and its companion video.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Post Paris Blues’ is a DIY/garage punk style composition. That is evidenced through the rough, gritty sound that permeates the arrangement. The especially present bass line in this song and its sound plays into that sound, as does the distinct vocal style.

Front man Leo Dyke talked briefly about the song’s arrangement in a recent interview.

“As a three-piece it can be quite difficult to sound like a full band sometimes,” he said. “This song makes me want to be in a three-piece forever. With guitar, bass and drums firing on all cylinders like in this song, you really don’t need anything else.”

The lyrical theme that accompanies the song’s musical arrangement is existential to a point, according to Dyke.

“I wrote this song on the stroke of turning eighteen and it’s about being truly honest with yourself about what you want,” Dyke said. “I think with social media it is so easy to plug into somebody’s life and compare it to yours and romanticise it. It can be a really dangerous thing to do, but it’s a very easy trap to fall into.

“This song came about because I was unhappy with a girlfriend at the time, and I saw an Instagram post from a girl I used to see and her new boyfriend in Paris,” added Dyke. “I guess at the time I wished I were him, or at least in their position, and the song recounts some of the fond memories I had with her, whilst feeling a little uncomfortable that it was so long ago, and yet here I am, still thinking about it. I felt as though I was missing out on so much, and I’d love to be in their position, reeling with ‘Post Paris Blues’.

The video for ‘Post Paris Blues’ features the band performing its new single in a tight studio setting and blends that footage with the story of what is seemingly the band members recalling their own childhoods. That is this critic’s interpretation.
