Craft Recordings Continues Its 70th Anniversary Of ‘Peanuts’ With New Video

Craft Recordings continued its celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Peanuts‘ debut in newspapers worldwide.

The company is celebrating the anniversary with the debut of a new animated video for the beloved song ‘The Great Pumpkin Waltz. The song is featured in the timeless Peanuts primetime TV special It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown.

The video opens with Linus’ classic letter to The Great Pumpkin, asking for lots of toys. From there, the curtain lifts to show Linus in the pumpkin patch in which he waited all that fateful night with Sally for The Great Pumpkin. As the video progresses, a series of pumpkins and presents wrapped in orange with green ribbons fill the screen against a constantly changing backdrop, all the while the song playing over the video.

‘The Great Pumpkin Waltz’ was last featured on the 2012 CD re-issue of A Charlie Brown Christmas‘ soundtrack as one of two bonus tracks. The other bonus track was one of the songs from the Peanuts primetime Thanksgiving TV special A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. Neither song is featured in Craft Recordings’ recently released vinyl re-issue of the soundtrack, which is at least the seventh of the soundtrack’s re-issues.

In related news, Craft Recordings has curated a playlist of music from the Peanuts specials as an added way to celebrate the beloved comic strip’s anniversary. The playlist is available here. It features songs from Peanuts movies and specials, such as A Boy Named Charlie Brown — the first of the Peanuts animated features — There’s No Time For Love, Charlie Brown, and You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown, as well as It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Christmas.

Courtesy: Craft Recordings

The soundtrack to the timeless holiday special A Charlie Brown Christmas is getting the re-issue treatment again.

Craft Recordings is scheduled to re-issue to soundtrack on vinyl on Sept. 25.  The re-issue — at least the seventh for the soundtrack since its original release in 1965 — is meant to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the debut of Good Ol’ Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang.  Its first re-issue was in 1986 on CD and its most recent was in 2012, with other re-issues coming in 2010, 2009, 2006, and 1988.

The forthcoming vinyl re-issue of A Charlie Brown Christmas‘ soundtrack stands out from its predecessor primarily because it will feature a limited edition lenticular cover art. That means it looks like Charlie Brown and company look like they are dancing around the Christmas tree when the LP’s cover is moved.

Dolly Parton song added to LOC Nat’l Recording Registry

Country legend Dolly Parton now has one more reason to be excited.  Her song, ‘Coat of Many Colors’, has been officially added to the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.  The LOC described her song by saying it “affectionately recounts an impoverished childhood in the hills of Tennessee that was made rich by the love of her family.”

Parton’s song is in fine company this year.  Along with her song, other artist who music was added to the registry this year include:  Prince, Donna Summer, The Grateful Dead, and Patsy Montana.  Sugarhill gang’s iconic song, ‘Rappers Delight’ and Parliament’s ‘Mothership Connection’ also made the list this year, along with “A Charlie Brown Christmas.”

More information on Dolly Parton is available online at http://www.dollypartonmusic.net.  The full listing of this year’s additions to the National Recording Registry can be viewed online at http://www.loc.gov/rr/record/nrpb/registry/nrpb-masterlist.html.
