The band premiered its new single, ‘Decompose‘ and its video Jan. 22 through Thousand Islands Records. The song’s musical arrangement lends itself to comparison to works from Propagandhi, A Wilhelm Scream, and Strung Out. That is evidenced through its upbeat energy and harmonies.

Front man Chris Kreuger talked about the song’s lyrical message in a prepared statement.

“This tune is about an invisible monster that burdens and even sometimes takes life away,” he said. “We all know victims. We’ve named the monster depression.”

The video for ‘Decompose’ was shot at Ill Fated Kustoms in Calgary, Alberta, with Alan Bremner handling filming and editing duties. The video features the band in the shop performing its new single. Various camera angles and lighting effects are used to ensure audiences’ engagement and entertainment.

Totally Slow Debuts New single, ‘Dead Skater,’ Companion Video; Fest 19 Performance Planned

Courtesy: Refresh Records

Independent punk rock band Totally Slow premiered the video for its latest single this week.

The band debuted the video for its new single, ‘Dead Skater’ Tuesday. The song — which is available to stream and download through Spotify and Apple Music — and its video are the second from the band’s forthcoming album, Casual Drag, which is scheduled for release June 4 through Refresh Records. The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Found Factions’ and its video last month.

The video for ‘Dead Skater’ is a black and white presentation that features the band performing its new single in a studio setting. Various fade effects are used in regards to its visuals to help make the presentation interesting.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Dead Skater’ is a high-energy composition that will appeal to most punk purists. The driving, guitar-centered composition will appeal to fans of bands, such as Jawbox, Hot Snakes, and Adolescents through its overall presentation. The lyrical content featured in the song is something of an existential theme according to front man Scott Hicks.

Hicks talked about the song’s lyrical theme during a recent interview with No Echo.

“‘Dead Skater’ was a name I tossed onto a riff demo and then found myself writing lyrics around because I liked the way it hit,” said Hicks. “Beating myself up for complaining when everything’s ok, and wondering if I’ll look back and keep hating myself about it when my time’s up.

In other news, Totally Slow is scheduled to take part in the Fest 19 concert festival in October. The festival is scheduled to take place Oct. 21-31. Among some of the other bands schedule to perform at the festival are acts, such as Hot Water Music, Teenage Bottlerocket, and A Wilhelm Scream.
