The Stone Eye Debuts New Single, ‘Not My Circus’

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent rock band The Stone Eye is giving audiences another preview of its forthcoming album, Fata Morgana this weekend.

The preview came in the form of the band’s new single, ‘Not My Circus‘ and its companion video. The band debuted the single Friday, more than a month after the group premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Donora‘ and its companion lyric video.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Not My Circus’ once again exhibits the band’s familiar Alice In Chains-esque vocal styling and guitar work. At the same time, unlike ‘Donora,’ the acoustic guitar work here featured here also lends itself to comparison to works from Days of the New.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the single’s premiere. The lyrics provided with the song’s video leave plenty of room for interpretation.

The video is a two-part presentation of sorts. One half of the presentation features the band recording in the studio. The other portion features the story of one of the band members trying to make his way to the studio. He encounters a number of intriguing situations along the way, eventually reaching his destination, but with a twist.

The Intemperate Sons Debuts New Single; New Live Dates Planner

Courtesy: Frame|Work / The Label Group

Independent alt-tock band The Intemperate Sons premiered its latest single this weekend.

The band unveiled its new single, ‘Way Back When‘ Friday. The song is the second single from the band’s forthcoming album, Game of Keep Away, which is expected for release this year through independent label Frame|Work. The album’s exact release date is under consideration.

The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Unrealized‘ in January. A video for the single followed the song’s release soon after.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Way Back When’ is certain to engage audiences with its dual-part 90s rock sound and style. The song’s verses present something of a “poppy” approach and sound akin to works from the likes of Oasis while the verses present a “darker,” heavier Alice in Chains-esque approach and sound. The contrast in sounds and styles works well to help clearly illustrate the story in the song’s lyrical theme.

According to information presented about the song in a news release, its lyrical theme tells the story of someone who has become jaded by the world. In being so jaded, the subject is trying to make sense of the world in its current state.

A video for the band’s new single is scheduled to premiere March 10.

In other news, The Intemperate Sons has a new slate of live performances scheduled. The schedule features one-off shows in March, April, June, and October in California and across Texas. The band’s live schedule is noted below.

The Intemperate Sons Show Dates:

Sat Mar 18 @ Viper Room in West Hollywood, CA
Sat Apr 15 @ Maverick’s Bar & Grill in Arlington, TX
Fri June 2 @ O’Riley’s in Dallas, TX
Sat June 17 @Fireplace Lounge in Dallas, TX
Sat Oct 14 @ Six Springs Tavern (Private Event) in Richardson, TX

The upcoming dates are on the heels of another series of live dates the band held in January, also across Texas.

The Stone Eye Announces New Album Details; Debuts Album’s Lead Single, Lyric Video

Courtesy: Electric Talon Records

Independent rock band The Stone Eye will release its new album this spring, and in anticipation of its release, the band premiered the record’s lead single and its companion lyric video over the weekend.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Donora‘ and its companion lyric video Friday. The song is featured in the band’s forthcoming album, Fata Morgana, which is scheduled for release April 28 through Electric Talon Records. According to a news release announcing the song’s premiere, it is the first of four singles and videos that will be released ahead of the record’s release.

The musical arrangement featured in the song immediately lends itself to comparison to works from the likes of Alice in Chains. That is evidenced through the distinct vocal delivery style and the overall melancholy mood set through the instrumentation.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the song’s premiere. The lyrics are provided with the video, and leave plenty of room for interpretation.

The lyrics are presented over a variety of images. The whole is something of a psychedelic visualization that will engage and entertain audiences in its own right.

Dark Sun Debuts New Single, ‘Trapped In The Dark’

Courtesy: TAG Publicity

Independent hard rock band Dark Sun debuted its latest single over the weekend.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Trapped In The Dark‘ Friday. The song is featured in the band’s forthcoming album, Spine. The record’s release date and other information was not announced in the press release announcing the song’s premiere. The new single’s premiere came less than a month after the band premiered its then latest single, ‘Forsaken.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Trapped In The Dark’ immediately lends itself to comparison to works from the likes of Alice in Chains. More specifically, it throws back to the sounds of Alice in Chains’ early works. At the same time, it still manages to present its own identity despite clearly showing that noted comparison and influence.

The band talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“‘Trapped in the Dark’ is a song about someone who feels like they have been wronged by someone close to them. And now they’re out for revenge,” the statement reads.

Courtesy: e2 PR

Jerry Cantrell is giving audiences another preview of his new album.

Cantrell premiered the title track from his forthcoming album, Brighten, and its video Friday through Heavy Consequence. The song and its video are the second from the album. Cantrell premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Atone’ and its companion video July 20 through Rolling Stone magazine.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Brighten’ is interesting in that it takes Cantrell’s years of influence from his time with Alice in Chains into consideration but giving them a lighter, more upbeat sound and stylistic approach.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the debut of the new single and video.

Speaking of the video, it was directed by Gilbert Trejo, son of famed actor Danny Trejo. It intersperses footage of Cantrell and his band mates performing in a concert hall with a man who is eating flowers and getting high as a result. According to information provided in the noted press release, the visualization is a loose take on the fabled “Lotus Eaters” from Homer’s Odyssey.

Cantrell debuted Brighten‘s lead single, ‘Atone,’ and its companion video July 20 through Rolling Stone magazine.

Cantrell said in a prepared statement, the song’s arrangement, which features clear AIC influence along with an equally clear southern rock sensibility, that there was direct influence in the song from a more well-known composer in the track’s creation.

“As a fan of Ennio Morricone scores and Sergio Leone movies, it’s got a bit of that outlaw vibe, with a cool psycho hillbilly stomp” he said. “It’s been kicking around in my head for like 20-plus years, haunting me. Sometimes it takes a while for a good idea to find its best form. Such was the case with Atone.”

No information is provided in the press release regarding the debut of Cantrell’s new single. In listening to the song through, it comes across as a statement from someone wanting to make right what was once wrong. It is that classic theme of battling personal demons for all intents and purposes.

The video for ‘Atone’ follows Cantrell’s noted respect for Sergio Leone movies. It finds him out in an arid, mountainous setting. The black and white video has the look of something one might expect from one of Leone’s old spaghetti westerns.

The track listing for Brighten is noted below.

Fore Debuts Satirical Cover Of Alice In Chains’ ‘Man In The Box,’ Companion Video

Independent punk rock band Fore is taking on a grunge classic for its latest single.

The band premiered its take on Alice in Chains’ ‘Man in the Box’ Tuesday through Metal Injection. The amped up take on the song was accompanied by a music video that takes the band’s satirical take on the song another step up from the original and gives it a whole new identity.

The song’s arrangement is a full-on, three-minute punk take on the grunge classic. The original song’s sound is there, but the stylistic take is completely different. The video features a man who is literally in a bunch of boxes. It also features a nonstop series of images, such as various bodies of water, a woman laying on a floor, looking upset over something, and one of the band members grilling out.

The video and cover is clearly meant to be taken with tongue planted firmly in cheek. It is not meant to be taken seriously, unlike the far moodier original song.

Fore’s premiere of its cover of ‘Man in the Box’ comes approximately two months after the band premiered its then latest single, ‘Repeated Subtraction’ and its companion video. The song was the band’s first new music since the release of its single, ‘Today We Rise (No Tomorrow)’ in 2020. That song was featured in the band’s debut 2020 album, Hombres.

Saliva’s ‘Every Six Seconds’ Tribute EP Will Appease Audiences While They Await The Band’s Next Album

Courtesy: Megaforce Records

Twenty years after Saliva made its major label debut (and second overall album) with Every Six Seconds, the band is revisiting that record with its new EP, Every Twenty Years.  The six-song record features a handful of re-worked versions of songs from Every Six Seconds that make up the majority of the record.  Those songs are certain to engage and entertain listeners in their own way.  They will be discussed shortly.  While the majority of the songs featured in Every Twenty Years are lifted from Every Six Seconds, there are two songs that were not featured in that album.  Their inclusion in the record adds their own level of appeal to the EP.  They will be discussed a little later.  The performances of the updated songs put the finishing touch to the EP and will also be discussed later.  When this aspect is considered along with the songs themselves and the two bonus tracks, the EP in whole proves itself a presentation that any Saliva fan will enjoy.

Saliva’s brand new EP, Every Twenty Years is a tribute to the band’s debut album, Every Six Seconds, that despite its brief nature, will appeal widely to the band’s established audience base.  That is due in part to the EP’s featured songs.  The majority of the record’s songs (four in all) are lifted from Every Six Seconds.  They are ‘Your Disease,’ ‘Click, Click, Boom,’ ‘After Me,’ and ‘Greater Than/Less Than.’  ‘Your Disease’ and ‘Click, Click, Boom’ were both hit singles spawned from Every Six Seconds.  “Greater Than/Less Than’ meanwhile was a carryover from the band’s self-titled 1997 debut album.  ‘After Me’ garnered its own appeal among audiences following the release of Every Six Seconds, too.  This collection of songs is a brief tribute to the legacy of Every Six Seconds, but considering the popularity of the songs’ source material, these re-worked renditions are certain to garner renewed interest in the band’s noted major label debut.  That in turn makes these primary songs a good starting point in examining this EP’s appeal.  The two bonus tracks that accompany the EP’s primary content build on the appeal of those works to make the EP increasingly engaging and entertaining.

The two bonus songs featured in Every Twenty Years are a re-worked take of the band’s 2001 cover of Henry Mancini’s ‘Theme From Peter Gunn’ and a cover of Soundgarden’s hit 1994 single, ‘Spoonman.’  Saliva’s take on ‘Spoonman’ largely stays true to its source material, which will appeal to fans of both bands.  Front man Bobby Amaru’s vocal delivery holds its own here against that of the late great Chris Cornell while his band mates – Paul Crosby (drums), Brad Stewart (bass), and Wayne Swinny (guitar, vocals)  — are just as applause worthy in their own performances here.

Saliva’s take on ‘Theme From Peter Gunn’ was not featured as part of Every Six Seconds despite also being released in 2001.  It was re-named ‘Spyhunter’ as it was featured in the soundtrack to the 2001 reboot of the vintage video game “Spyhunter.”  Both versions clock in at four minutes, 22 seconds in length, so needless to say not much has changed between the original and this song.  The variations are in fact that subtle. Considering that  the original rendition is likely difficult to find today other than through YouTube, having this version included in an official Saliva record makes for even more appeal here.

Speaking of variations, the variations between the original and updated takes of the songs from Every Six Seconds make for their own appeal, too.  That speaks to the importance of the band’s performance of said songs.  While there are many similarities between the original and updated version of ‘Click Click Boom’ for instance, there are also clear differences. The differences are most clear from the second verse on. They come in part through the vocal delivery of current front man Bobby Amaru and former front man Josey Scott. Amaru’s vocal delivery style is noticeably heavier heavier than that of Scott in the verses while the two have roughly similar styles in the more melodic choruses.  In terms of the instrumentation here, there are clear moments throughout when Swinny’s guitar riffs are heavier than in the original.  There are also certain effects used here that were not used in the original composition.  All things considered, the band’s updated take of ‘Click, Click, Boom’ is actually an improvement over the original work and just part of the proof of the importance of the band’s performances here.

Just the two renditions of ‘Click, Click, Boom’ are relatively similar, save for some subtle variances, so are the two renditions of ‘Your Disease.’  The updated take featured in Every Twenty Years is different from its source material primarily in the fact that it is more amped up in the verses than the original take.  The choruses meanwhile are just as controlled and melodic.  There is a slight change in the guitar arrangement in the song’s chorus refrain that adds a nice touch, too.  Other than that and the noted heavier approach to the song’s verses, the song’s update is largely the same as the original.  That marriage of something old and something new (yes, that awful wedding pun was intended) make this presentation yet another example of what makes the band’s performances of the  updated songs so important to the EP’s presentation.  The band’s performance in the updated take of ‘Better Than/Less Than’ is yet another example of the importance of the band’s performances here.

Saliva’s updated take of ‘Better Than/Less Than’ is just as subtle in its performance as the band’s performance in the other examined updates.  Swinney’s guitar line is once more amped up here in comparison to the band’s initial performance.  The result is that the song’s distinctly Alice in Chains style sound and style is even more evident here than in the original.  That is not to say that it was not evident in the original work.  It is just so   much more pronounced in this case.  Taking this update into account along with the performances in the other examined updates and that in the band’s updated take of ‘After Me,’ the importance of the band’s performances here become that much clearer.  When they are considered along with the EP’s main body and its bonus songs, the whole makes this EP a mostly enjoyable presentation that will tide audiences over until the band releases its next album.

Saliva’s brand new EP Every Twenty Years is a presentation that will appeal to the band’s established audience base.  That is due in part to its featured songs.  The songs are for the most part, lifted from the band’s 2001 album, Every Six Seconds.   However, there are two “bonus” tracks added to the mix to enhance the EP’s presentation.  One of the songs is an updated take of a cover that the band recorded for a game that was itself an update of a video game that was popular in the 1980s.  How is that for a little six degrees of separation?  The other song is a cover of a song made famous by a famed grunge act and is just as engaging and entertaining as that original.  The band’s performances of the updates rounds out the EP’s most important elements.  The performances are subtle yet still heavy updates of the band’s own original songs that will keep listeners engaged and entertained in their own right.  Each item examined is important in its own way to the whole of the EP.  All things considered, they make the EP a work that is certain to tide audiences over until the band releases its next album.  Every Twenty Years is available now.

Alborn Signs Distribution Deal With Imagen Records; Live Show Set For Saturday

Courtesy: Imagen Records/ADA/Warner Music

Alt-metal  band Alborn made a big announcement this week.

The independent band announced Monday, it has signed a new distribution deal with Imagen Records (ADA/Warner Music).  The deal will see the band release its new EP Impairative Friday.

Imagen Records A&R Rep (and Sevendust drummer) Morgan Rose talked about the band’s signing in a recent interview.

“When the opportunity opened up for me to sign Alborn to Imagen, I jumped on it, he said. “I’ve known these guys for years and have worked closely with them. The songwriting is so unique to me. It’s fresh and not predictable. I think people will get so much out of what this band has to say.”

Imagen Records President Bob Winegard added to Rose’s statements.

“I’m excited to have them on our roster and I can’t wait until people hear their new music,” said Winegard.

The five-song record features four original songs and a cover of Alice In Chains’ hit song ‘We Die Young.’ Impairative‘s track listing is noted below.

“Impairative” Tracklisitng:

1) Prime
2) Let Me Bleed
3) Waves
4) The Maze
5) We Die Young (Alice In Chains Cover)

The band debuted the video for its cover of ‘We Die Young’ on June 25.  The video is a CG presentation that features images of items, such as bullets, crime scene tape at a house, and skeletons on a subway train.  Alborn’s take on the song stays largely true to its source material from start to end.

Alborn formed in 2016 in northern Illinois.  The band is composed of Justin Taylor (guitar/vocals), Alex Raser (drums/vocals), Zame Lewis (bass) and Nate Guske (guitar).  The band’s music has been compared to works from the likes of Deftones and Alice in Chains.

The band’s win in a battle of the bands competition led the group earned the band a recording session of Jose Urquiza of the band 3 years Hollow.  Rose heard the demos that the session spawned and came on board to work with the band.  Rose said of the sessions that he and Urquiza worked on with Alborn, “I was brought in to do some producing with Alborn and what grabbed my attention immediately was that they refused to conform to a formula. They wanted to be themselves from the start. It’s rare to find a band so young not wanting to follow an easy trend. I was impressed right out of the gate.”

The successes that the band has experienced since will result Friday in the release of its new EP.

In other news Alborn is scheduled to perform live Saturday at the Apollo Theatre in Belvidere, IL.  The band will serve as support for Monroe as it celebrates the release of its new record.

104.9 The X is presenting the concert.  Kegel Harley-Davidson is the concert’s primary sponsor.  Information and tickets are available here.
