Ego Kill Talent Debuts ‘Thousand Nails’ Lyric Video

Independent rock act Ego Kill Talent debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band premiered the lyric video for its new single, ‘Thousand Nails’ Thursday through the Space Zebra Twitch channel. The song features a guest appearance by System of a Down’s John Dolmayan. The video features the song’s lyrics placed over images of the single’s art, which is that of a group of hooded figures. The figures in question have faces made up of unique designs rather than faces. Equally interesting symbols adorn the tops of the robes that they wear.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Thousand Nails’ is unique in itself. It blends elements of math metal with some metalcore and some aggro-rock. It is a composition that is difficult to pigeonhole into one specific rock subgenre, which is a very good thing.

The lyrical theme that accompanies the song’s musical arrangement is a commentary about the negative impacts of our own egos, according to a prepared statement that the band released about the song.

“‘Thousand Nails’ is about how much we let ourselves be carried away by our pride — to the point of destroying wonderful works that we built together because we do not consider letting go,” the statement reads.

‘Thousand Nails’ is just the latest single that Ego Kill Talent has released. The band — Jonathan Dörr [vocals], Jean Dolabella [drums, guitar], Raphael Miranda [drums, bass], Niper Boaventura [guitar, bass], and Theo Van Der Loo [bass, guitar] — has also released the singles, ‘Now!,’ ‘The Call,’ ‘Lifeporn,’ and ‘Deliverance.’

Additionally, the band has released three EPs and most recently, its new album, The Dance Between Extremes. The new EP is available here.

Memphis May Fire Gets Philosophical With New Single, Video; Launches Non-Profit Fundraiser With New Merch

Memphis May Fire is taking on humans’ thoughts on mortality in its new single.

The band debuted its new single, ‘Death Inside‘ and its video Tuesday. The band took a unique, previously unexplored approach to ‘Death Inside’ in comparison to its existing body of work. The band’s familiar melodic metalcore approach and sound is present here, but at the same time, this arrangement also incorporates something of a nu-metal/rap-rock approach in the verses. The pairing of that unique approach alongside the band’s more familiar sound makes the song’s overall arrangement such that it will generate some discussion among audiences.

Front man Matty Mullins talked about the new approach during a recent interview.

“‘Death Inside’ is a new flavor for MMF,” said Mullins. “I wanted to get out of my comfort zone with the vocals on this one and ended up discovering a sound that I think really caters to the concept.”

Additionally, he talked about how that approach connected to the song’s philosophical lyrical theme, stating, “The song is about fear of death and the choice to either let it consume you or live life to the fullest.”

In related news, Memphis May Fire has launched a new fundraising effort to aid the nonprofit organization, Living The Dream. The agency will receive 100 percent of proceeds from sales of the band’s new t-shirt, which is available now in the band’s merchandise store.

Mullins explained of the nonprofit, “LTD helps children and young adults living with life-threatening illnesses stay positive, maintain hope, and appreciate each and every day, regardless of their affliction.”

The premiere of ‘Death Inside’ comes more than a month after the band premiered the video for its then latest single, ‘Blood & Water.’ The song and its video were the first from the band since the release of its album Broken in 2019. That album produced the singles ‘The Old Me,’ ‘Heavy is the Weight (ft. Andy Mineo)‘ and ‘You and Me.’

The premiere of ‘Blood & Water’ was also partnered with the launch of a related fundraiser for Bridges DVC Nashville. One hundred percent of the sales from the band’s two new merchandise designs benefitted the center, which serves men, women, and children affected by domestic violence in the greater Nashville, TN region.

In other news, Memphis May Fire will perform two live shows this week. The first performance is scheduled to take place Thursday at the Rock Fest in Cadott, WI. The second is scheduled to take place Friday at the Alive Festival in Mineral City, OH.

Hyro The Hero Debuts New Single, ‘Retaliation Generation,’ Companion Lyric Video; Announces Livestream Show

Independent rapper Hyro The Hero debuted his latest single this week along with its companion video.

The rapper (a.k.a. Hyron Louis Fenton, Jr.) debuted his new single ‘Retaliation Generation’ and its lyric video Friday. The song features guest vocals by Ice Nine Kills front man Spencer Charnas. Charnas’ familiar vocal delivery style compliments Fenton’s own familiar flow as he raps about what today’s youth is going through. Meanwhile, the familiar Rage Against The Machine style musical approach for which Fenton has come to be known joins the noted vocal performances to make the song complete.

The lyric video for ‘Retaliation Generation’ places the song’s lyrics over a post apocalyptic backdrop, complete with images of zombies, a perfect fit for Charnas. That is because Charnas and his Ice Nine Kills band mates are known for crafting songs based off of horror flicks. In the case of this song though, the imagery is used to help translate the message in the song’s lyrical content.

Fenton talked about the song’s lyrical content during a recent interview.

“I think this song captures the emotion of what this generation feels in this crazy time we are living in,” he added. “It’s full on attack mode right from the beginning it’s such a great feeling when an artist like Spencer helps take a song like this to the next level. I want anybody who listens to this song to be a voice. Stand up for what you believe in.”

Additionally, Fenton talked about the song’s creation, including the addition of Charnas’ guest vocals.

“‘Retaliation Generation’ is a great song that represents the style of music I have come to be known for,” said Fenton. “Having Spencer sing the hook and Matt Good on production blasted this track into ‘anthem’ territory.”

Charnas added to Fenton’s thoughts with his own comments.

“I think with everything going on in the last several years, our generation is holding people accountable,” he said. “It’s a movement in terms of a ‘You ain’t getting away with this s*** anymore.’ It’s a battle cry. I think it’s got such a cool overall message of not letting trials and tribulations of the world get you down. I think people can be their own worst enemy, and this is a song of empowerment. You can fight for what you believe in. It’s up to you to put up or shut up.”

Hyro The Hero’s collaboration is just his latest big name team-up. He most recently worked with Hellyeah and former Mudvayne front man Chad Gray on the inspirational song ‘Fight.’ Prior to that song’s release, he worked with Disturbed front man David Draiman on the song ‘We Believe.’

In other news, Hyro The Hero will host a livestream even at 4 p.m. ET today through his official Twitch channel. Charnas, AJ Channer (Fire From the Gods), and Ben Bruce (Asking Alexandria) will also make appearances during the livestream show. Fans can RSVP here. Additionally, Hyro The Hero will be a guest for Fire From the Gods’ own livestream even Jan. 30. Tickets for that event are available here.
