United Defiance Announces New Album Details; Premieres Album’s Lead Single

Punk rock band United Defiance will release its new album this fall.

The band is scheduled to release its new album, Change the Frequency Oct. 1 through Thousand Islands Records. A vinyl release for the album is scheduled to take place in 2022. In anticipation of the album’s release, the band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Sing With Me‘ Monday.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Sing With Me’ is a catchy, infectious, guitar-driven composition. Its choruses, with their collective vocals, and the gritty but still catchy verses lend the arrangement overall to works from the likes of NOFX, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and to a slightly lesser extent, Dropkick Murphys.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the single’s debut. However, in listening to the song, the theme comes across as a message celebrating unity, friendship and just coming together in general.

Change the Frequency will feature guest appearances from well-known names in the punk community, such as Jason Devore (Authority Zero) and Dave Pederson (Downway) among others.

Authority Zero Announces Release Date, Specs For New EP; Premieres Lead Single’s Lyric Video; Announces New Live Dates

Courtesy: Earshot Media

Authority Zero is scheduled to release its next studio recording this month.

The veteran punk outfit is scheduled to release its new EP, The Back Nine April 30. The five-song EP was produced by Cameron Webb (Sum 41, Pennywise, A Day to Remember, Motorhead, Megadeth).

Front man Jason DeVore said in a prepared statement, the record’s songs follow a central lyrical theme.

The Back Nine EP is a catalogue of five songs that exude heavy rhythm, melodies, and a strong and passionate lyrical content,” he said. “They are songs directed toward right and wrong with intent to lift people up with hopes of a better future and mindset during our recent events and darker times.”

The track listing for The Back Nine is noted below.

‘The Back Nine’ EP Track Listing:

Ollie Ollie Oxen Free

Fire Off Another

The Back Nine

Seas and Serpents

Have You Ever

In anticipation of the five-song record’s release, the band debuted the lyric video for the EP’s lead single, ‘Fire Off Another‘ last month. The video features the song’s lyrics presented against a post apocalyptic backdrop that includes imagery, such as children climbing on and riding tanks, war planes flying over a mountainous landscape, and a nuclear bomb blast as the song plays over the imagery.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Fire Off Another’ is, as DeVore noted, an upbeat composition. The stylistic approach, what with its vocals, heavy guitars, and solid time keeping lends itself to comparison to works from Offspring.

The lyrical theme featured in ‘Fire Off Another’ would seem to tell the story of two people who are in a non-stop argument with one another over an unknown topic. Considering the visuals used in the song’s lyric video, the assumption has to be made without any explanation from the band about the song, that the song addresses the division between Americans over so much going on in the world today.

Additionally, the use of the children in the video perhaps is meant to illustrate how the arguing makes grown-ups seem more like immature children. That is all just this critic’s own interpretation and should not be taken as gospel.

In other news, Authority Zero has also announced two new live dates. The dates, scheduled to take place this summer, are noted below.

Upcoming shows:

June 10th Rocky Point Mexico

June 18th Marquee in Tempe, AZ

Record Thieves Debuts New Single, ‘Sacrifice’

Courtesy: Thousand Islands Records

Punk rock Super Group Record Thieves debuted the lead single from its new album this week.

The band debuted its new single ‘Sacrifice‘ Wednesday. The song is featured in the band’s forthcoming debut album Wasting Time, which is scheduled for release Nov. 24 through Thousand Island Records.

The song’s musical arrangement is a stark departure from the sounds created through the band members’ original bands — Allout Helter, Authority zero, and Boldtype. Rather it is more akin to works from the likes of New Found Glory, Millencolin, and Rise Against. That is evidenced through its pop punk style sound and stylistic approach.

The song’s lyrical content comes across as one of those familiar inner ruminations focusing on the topic of facing everything happening in the world and standing up for one’s beliefs. That familiar lyrical topic couples with the song’s accessible musical arrangement to make the work in whole a work that will connect with a wide range of listeners.

Authority Zero Debuts ‘Ah Hell’ Video; Announces New Live Dates

Courtesy: Concrete Jungle

Punk rock band Authority Zero debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The veteran Mesa, AZ-based band debuted the video for its new single ‘Ah Hell‘ on Wednesday. The video combines footage of the band performing its new single in a sound stage setting with shots of a female lead dealing with what appears to be some emotional stress, working her way through her situation through the use of art.

Front man Jason Devore explained the song’s concept in a recent interview, saying it is meant to encourage people to stand up for themselves.

“‘Ah Hell’ is a ‘well, why the f*** not’ in life scenario,” Devore said.  “Idealistically, it stems from when I was a kid.  A lot of the older teenagers and younger kids that looked up to them would all go and ride BMX in a small town I lived in.  The area we went to had a giant dirt bowl, killer terrain and one big wicked kicker (jump) at the bottom.  One day, the teens pressured this little kid by bullying him into flying down the hill to make the jump and fit in.  End result, the kid did a double back flip unintentionally and ended up landing on his face, shattering all his teeth and bone structure.  All that said, the idea the final result is to stand up for yourself, don’t give in to pressure or bullies, take chances, but also take things at your own pace and do what you feel is right for you.”

‘Ah Hell’ is taken from Authority  Zero’s latest full-length studio recording persona non grata, which was released Nov. 22 via Concrete Jungle.  the album is streaming now via Spotify and Apple Music.

It can be purchased on vinyl now here.

Authority Zero is currently scheduled to perform live this spring in Europe, with two confirmed dates in the UK and one in France.  The band’s schedule is noted below.

Upcoming shows:

APR 14 New Cross Inn- London, England, United Kingdom

APR 16 The Salty Dog- Northwich, England, United Kingdom

APR 24 Gibus Live- Paris, Ile-de-France, France (w/ Good Riddance x A Vulture Wake)
