Cubs, Cards Going Live Sunday On ESPN’s Weekly ‘SNB’ Broadcast

The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals will go under the lights live Sunday night on ESPN.

The National League Central foes, who sit 1-2 in the division, will face off live on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell.  The teams are separated by four-and-a-half games coming into Sunday night’s showdown.

Sunday night’s game is the third in a four-game series between the Cubs and Cardinals.  Chicago sits atop the NL Central at 22-15 while St. Louis is 14-14.

While Chicago leads the division, the team is fourth in the National League, behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Atlanta Braves.  St. Louis meanwhile is fighting for its slim playoff hopes  The team is outside the playoff picture, but wins in this weekend’s series could help its chances.

Jon Lester (2-1) is scheduled to get the start on the mound Sunday for Chicago.  His last time on the mound was Tuesday against Pittsburgh.  Lester pitched 5.1 innings in the game, allowing eight hits, three walks and five earned runs while striking out three batters.

Chicago won the noted game against the Pirates in a final score of 8-7.  Jeremy Jeffress was credited with the win in the game.

The Cardinals have not named their starting pitcher for Sunday’s game.

Sunday’s game (and this weekend’s series) could go to either team, looking at the teams’ stats.  Chicago is 5-5 in its last 10 games, 12-8 at home, and 10-7 on the road this season.  St. Louis meanwhile 4-6 in its last 10 games, 8-7 at home and 6-7 on the road.

Twins-Cubs Matchup Added To ESPN’s ‘Sunday Night Baseball’ Schedule

The Minnesota Twins and Chicago Cubs will go under the lights later this month live on ESPN.

The cross-conference showdown is scheduled to take place Sept. 20 as part of the 2020 season of ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell.

Coverage is expected to start at 7 p.m. ET.  Matt Vasgersian will anchor the broadcast.  He will be joined by analyst and World Series Champion Alex Rodriguez for additional commentary.  ESPN Senior MLB Insider Buster Olney will have all of the game’s headlines.

The Sept. 20 game will simulcast on ESPN Radio nationwide.  Jon Sciambi will anchor the broadcast.  Analyst Chris Singleton will provide additional commentary.

The upcoming matchup between the Twins and Cubs will mark the first time in a decade that Minnesota has appeared live on Sunday Night Baseball.  The last time the Twins appeared on the program was Aug. 22, 2010 against the Los Angeles Angels.

ESPN’s upcoming Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell is actually the second game in what will be a double header day of baseball on the network.  The Oakland Athletics will host the San Francisco Giants in the first of the day’s games.

Coverage of the game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET.  Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown will precede the afternoon game at a special time of 3 p.m.  Local blackout restrictions will apply for both games.

Teixeira, ESPN Reach Agreement On Contract Extension

Mark Teixeira is sticking with ESPN.

The MLB great, who is a three-time American League All-Star and member of the 2009 World Series Champion New York Yankees, has signed a new multi-year agreement with ESPN.  The network made the announcement in a news release sent Monday.

Teixeira’s new deal ensures that he will remain an analyst on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown for the foreseeable future.  The program precedes ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball each week throughout Major League Baseball’s season.  The contract also ensures he will serve as analyst for other ESPN baseball programs, such as Opening Day, Winter Baseball Meetings and World Series.

Teixeira was humble as he talked about his new contract in a recent interview.

“I have the coolest job in baseball,” Teixeira said. “I’m fortunate to work with so many great colleagues and friends at ESPN, who are deeply committed to covering the sport we all love with passion and expertise.  I’m so happy to be part of this team.”

ESPN Vice President, Production Seth Markman shared  Teixeira’s positive thoughts.

“Mark is a consummate professional who elevates our show every time he appears,” Markman said.  “He’s smart, cadid and an excellent communicator, and his passion for the game is evident.  We’re proud to have Mark here at ESPN.”

Along with his work on ESPN’s MLB coverage, Teixeira will also contribute to SportsCenter and will make appearances on ESPN Radio’s programming, including ESPN Radio 98.7’s The Michael Kay Show.

Over the course of his Major League Baseball career, Teixeira — a switch-hitting First Baseman — hit 409 home runs, batted in 1,298 runs and won five Golden Gloves.  He retired at the end of Major League Baseball’s 2016 season and joined ESPN’s on-air roster at the start of the league’s 2017 season.

Orioles To Host Yankees On Sept. 14th Edition Of Sunday Night Baseball

Football season is officially underway.  College football and NFL stadiums alike are now rocking every week with rabid fans on both sides of the ball.  While football has taken center stage, audiences should be reminded that the 2014 MLB season isn’t over just yet.  With time ticking away before the playoffs start, ESPN has announced that the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees will face off live on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell on Sunday, September 14^th.

The teams’ matchup on September 14^th will be the last in a four-game series between the teams that weekend.  The series kicks off Friday, September 12^th with a double-header between the AL East rivals. Whether or not audiences are Yankees fans, the scheduled game will be an important one as it is believed that it will be the last appearance by Yankees great Derek Jeter on Sunday Night Baseball.  It will also be the last for Jeter at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, which is itself celebrating its 25^th season this year.

Dan Shulman will have the call for the game.  He will be joined live by analyst John Kruk and reporter Buster Olney for additional commentary.  Fans that won’t be close to a TV to catch the game on  September 24^th can still catch it on their local ESPN Radio affiliate.  Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton will have the call for audiences listening on the radio.  It will also be available online via WatchESPN and on TV and radio for Spanish-speaking audiences on ESPN Deportes and ESPN Deportes radio.  As with every Sunday Night Baseball broadcast on ESPN, the matchup between the Orioles and Yankees will be preceded by ESPN’s Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown presented by Chevrolet live at 7pm ET.

Tomorrow night, audiences can catch the third game in a three-game series between the Indians and Royals.  The Royals currently sit atop the AL Central Standings while the Indians are third in the division, 3.5 games back.  Game two is tonight at 7:10pm ET.  Next Sunday night, September 7^th, ESPN will carry the third game in a three-game series between the Giants and Tigers.
