Dragonforce Goes Glam In ‘Strangers’ Video

Dragonforce debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band premiered the single for its single, ‘Strangers‘ Monday. The song is the latest single from the band’s 2019 album, Extreme Power Metal. The band premiered the video for the album’s then latest single, ‘Troopers of the Stars’ in August.

The video for ‘Strangers’ is full on glam. It features the band in classic 80s hair metal apparel and even playing guitars that were played by none other than Steve Vai during his time with Whitesnake and David Lee Roth. This is coupled with footage of people playing video games in what is meant to look like a retro arcade.

Guitarist Herman Li talked about the video and the song during a recent interview.

“This video takes place in the same ’80s world as our last video (‘Troopers of the Stars’), with the same cast and the same director,” said Li. “When Roboshobo pitched the concept, I was immediately into it. I’m a huge fan of the glam rock-era of music – I love the showmanship, the guitar solos, and the endearing cheesiness. And the players of that time were amazing, like Steve Vai, Warren Di Martini, and Reb Beach; I think sometimes the playing gets lost, and people just remember the crazy outfits. So, this video is a loving tribute to that era – while also being authentic…”

Added Li, “Roboshobo told us to get some cool-looking guitars to fit the theme of the video, and the night before the shoot, I was panicking because we still hadn’t found any. So, I texted Steve Vai and told him we were doing a glam rock video. He said, ‘come on over’, and when I got there, he had pulled out THE guitars he used with Whitesnake and David Lee Roth. I remember seeing these guitars in magazines as a kid, so it was incredible to get to use them on set – I almost cried when he handed them to me!”

Li concluded, “Besides the guitars, I think we all looked really hunky in our costumes, especially our hair! For a minute, I was even considering getting a perm…I know people may think we’re not taking ourselves seriously enough, but I think given the state of the world, sometimes it’s just nice to kick back and have a laugh with your mates. That was definitely the vibe on set – we could barely keep a straight face watching the playback. We’re also releasing super-limited merch we did in collaboration with the artist, Teenage Stepdad, at: dragonforce.com/shop. It definitely captures the feeling of the era!”

Unleash The Archers Debuts ‘Abyss’ Video

Courtesy: Napalm Records

Power metal band Release the Archers debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band debuted the video for its new single ‘Abyss‘ Thursday.  The video, directed by Roderick Sobie, features the band performing its new single in a studio setting.  As the band performs, a portal of sorts opens, sucking the band into another dimension, in which it continues to perform the song.

The song’s musical arrangement is an up-tempo composition whose vocals, guitars and time keeping will appeal to fans of bands, such as Sabaton, Battle Beast, and The Agonist.

The band’s new song is the title track from the band’s forthcoming album, which is scheduled for release Aug. 21 through Napalm Records.  Pre-orders for the album are open now.  The album’s track listing is noted below.

Abyss tracklisting:
1) Waking Dream
2) Abyss
3) Through Stars
4) Legacy
5) Return To Me
6) Soulbound
7) Faster Than Light
8) The Wind That Shapes The Land
9) Carry The Flame (feat. guitarist Andrew Kingsley on guest vocals)
10) Afterlife (feat. orchestration by Francesco Ferrini)

Vocalist Brittney Slayes talked about the new song in a recent interview.

“This track set the tone for the whole record; conceptually, lyrically, musically, it all started here,” she said.  “[Guitarist] Andy [Kingsley] came up with the opening riff back when we were writing Apex [Abyss‘ predecessor], but I knew right away it didn’t belong on that record.  When we finally started writing Abyss in 2019, this was the first song we wrote and it was the first song I listened to when the record was done. It symbolizes five years of hard work for us, and I think it does a great job of putting the listener in the right place emotionally to start the record. It hints at what the rest of the album is all about, but also doesn’t give it all away, not by a long shot!”

The new single is just one of the topics that Slayes addressed during her interview.  She also talked about how the song plays into the album’s overall lyrical theme and how it ties back to Apex.

“Our protagonist, The Immortal, is once again awakened at the beginning of our story, but this time he is in an unknown place: a ship out in deep space,” she said.  “He wanders alone for a time, reflecting on his misdeeds, searching for his new master. Finally, he finds him, and learns that it is the Grandson of The Matriarch, our antagonist. The Immortal had taken The Grandson’s father away some sixty years before, to be sacrificed by The Matriarch in a ritual to achieve immortality (the events from Apex) and now the Grandson seeks revenge against The Matriarch with the aid of her own weapon, The Immortal.

This album is a classic take on good versus evil, light versus dark, The Grandson versus The Matriarch, but it also uses the ‘person versus self’ literary device in that The Immortal is battling with the good and evil within himself, and must decide in the end if he is simply a tool for others to use, or a man with free will and the ability to choose his own path; a struggle I think every human can relate to,” added Slayes.

Amaranthe, Angela Gossow Partner For New Single, ‘Do Or Die’

Courtesy: Nuclear Blast Records

Amaranthe has partnered with former Arch Enemy vocalist Angela Gossow to send a warning to the world about its current state.

The group debuted the video for the song ‘Do or Die‘ Friday.  The video features Gossow and the members of Amaranthe in a post-apocalyptic world that is filled with pollution and garbage, collecting what can only be assumed to be the skeletons of the world’s former inhabitants killed by the impact of climate change.

The song’s musical arrangement features Amaranthe’s familiar melodic, orchestral metal sound alongside Gossow’s equally familiar gutteral vocal delivery.  The song’s lyrical content is meant as a statement about what humans are doing to the planet.

Amaranthe guitarist Olo Morck discussed that lyrical theme in a recent interview.

“While Amaranthe’s music is often uplifting, energetic and positive, sooner or later everyone needs to deal with the obvious fact that the world is literally crumbling around us — and it is crumbling fast, thanks to the short-sighted abuse of our common Mother Earth!,” he said.  “We talked to legendary Angela Gossow of Arch Enemy fame to do an entire package of a video and a song, outside of any normal album cycle, and let our different perspectives on metal collide in a massive explosion; and it resulted in ‘Do Or Die’!”  together with Overbeck Media, who shot the video, we delivered something really quite special, and Angela brings in a fresh strength to the trademark Amaranthe sound that is sure to resound all across the metal world!  Death and Fire!!!”

Gossow offered her own remarks about taking part in the video shoot.

“It was thrilling to join Amaranthe for a more extreme track and shooting a cutting edge video for it!,” she said.  “This is no cozy studio performance, but real ice cold winds, sewages, cadavers and pouring rain — the reality we live in, the devastating legacy we leave to our future generations.  Time to wake up, turn — and bang — some heads!  Watch out for these guys and killer lady.  They are going to crush you this year with a new album and some heavy touring!!!”

‘Do Or Die’ is available to stream and download here.  The song’s debut comes more than a month after the band debuted the video for its cover of Sabaton’s song ‘82nd All The Way.’

Amaranthe is wrapping the latest leg of its tour with Sabaton.  The bands’ current tour winds down Sunday.

The band will take part in a series of festivals this summer across Europe.  Its festival schedule opens June 4 at the Sweden Rock Festival and runs through Aug. 31 at the Rock in the City Festival.

An extensive North American headlining tour is also on tap for Amaranthe this summer, with support from Battle Beast and Seven Spires.  The band’s North American tour is scheduled to launch Aug. 20 in Baltimore, MD and to run through Oct. 2 in Cincinnati, OH.  It features performances in cities, such as Portland, OR; Tempe, AZ and Philadelphia, PA.

Amaranthe Debuts Video For Its Cover Of Sabaton’s ’82nd All The Way’

Courtesy: Nuclear Blast Records

Amaranthe debuted a new video this week.

The band debuted the video for its cover of Sabaton’s song ‘82nd All The Way‘ Friday.  ’82nd All The Way’ is featured in Sabaton’s latest full-length studio recording The Great War (2019).  Amaranthe’s video takes audiences inside the studio with the band as it performs its take on the song, complete with a new triple-vocal approach.  That new approach sets the song apart from its source material and in turn steps up the song.

Amaranthe guitarist Olof Morck talked about the band’s take of the song in a recent interview.

“People who are familiar with Amaranthe know that we do not frequently do covers, but there was something quite irresistible about interpreting Sabaton’s ’82nd All The Way’!,” he said.  “While being thematically different from most of our songs, musically it made perfect sense, and it was a joy to pick the song apart and put it back together to something classically Amaranthe sounding!  So, this is our small tribute to the mighty Swedish war machine that is Sabaton; ’82nd All The Way’!”

Amaranthe will join Sabaton on the road beginning Jan 17 in Zurich, Switzerland.  Apocalyptica will also take part in the tour.

Amaranthe’s performances are in support of its most recent album Helix (2018).  The album has spawned the singles ‘365,’ ‘Countdown,’ ‘Inferno,’ ‘Dream‘ and ‘Helix.’ Amaranthe’s upcoming dates with Sabaton and Apocalyptica are scheduled to run through Feb. 16 in Oslo, Norway.
