Blackmore’s Night debuted its latest single this weekend, along with the song’s video.
The band debuted its new single, ‘Second Element’ Friday, along with the song’s video, and as explained by singer Candice Night, ‘Second Element’ is a cover of a song made famous by Sarah Brightman.
“We’ve been big fans of Sarah Brightman for many years…When we heard the song on an album that she had done many years ago, we just instantly fell in love with it,” said Night. “It’s really still a love song, but it’s a love song to the element of water, and how water is the source of our lives…it was just such a fascinating concept.”
The song is the third single from the band’s latest album, Nature’s Light. Its premiere follows that of the songs ‘Four Winds‘ and ‘Once Upon December
The performance of ‘Second Element’ that Blackmore’s Night presents in its new album stays largely true to its source material, while making some slight, subtle changes to the instrumentation and vocal style. The updated take takes into consideration, Night’s more operatic, Celine Dion style vocals for instance.
The video that accompanies the song incorporates the use of various water-related images and footage to tie into Night’s noted statement about water’s connection to life.
