Pop Evil Announces Top 10 Honor For Another Of Its Singles; Band Launches New Mobile Game; Tour Continues

Courtesy: eOne

Pop Evil and its fans have a lot to celebrate this week.

The band’s single, ‘Survivor‘ has officially reached #9 on Billboard’s Rock & Alternative Airplay Chart. The achievement makes the single the band’s 18th overall single to reach a Top 10 position on any of Billboard’s charts.

The song is featured in the band’s latest album, Versatile and is just one of the record’s songs to reach a Top 10 charting position. ‘Breathe Again‘ peaked at #1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart in May. ‘Work,’ yet another of the album’s singles, also reached the top spot on one of Billboard’s charts.

In other news, the band has launched a mobile Rubik’s Cube game that it has dubbed “The Cube.” Audiences can download the game here.

Front man Leigh Kakaty said the recent downtime that he spent as the result of a positive COVID test gave him lots of time to play the game himself.

“Over the last few weeks, I played the hell out of this game during my Covid isolation,” said Kakaty. “Just warning everyone, it’s not an easy game to nail down. Good luck beating Hayley’s score, she currently has the highest score on the bus…”

In more news still, the band continues its tour in support of Versatile tonight in Savannah, GA. The performance is one of a handful of dates that was re-scheduled due to Kakaty’s temporary sidelining. The band’s current tour schedule is noted below with the recently rescheduled dates noted in red.

Drowning Pool’s Debut Getting The Vinyl Treatment; Band Announces New Live Dates

Courtesy: Craft Recordings/Wind-Up Records

Drowning Pool has partnered with Craft Recordings to re-issue Drowning Pool’s debut album.

The recording, Sinner, is scheduled for release on vinyl Sept. 17 through Craft Recordings. Pre-orders are open. The re-issue, which marks the 20th anniversary of the album’s original release, is the first ever vinyl presentation for the record.

Front man Jason Moreno had only positive things to say of Drowning Pool and Sinner during a recent interview.

Sinner is literally perfect,” said Moreno. I remember hearing and seeing it all come together.  We shared the local Dallas scene back then—Drowning Pool and an old band I used to be in—and I’d like to say we kept each other honest and made each other better through competition…but it was never even close. Dave and the guys were the dudes shaping the scene. I shared many stages with Drowning Pool before I was ever their lead singer, and I remember feeling hyped after each performance. I remember believing we’d finally upstaged them. I would have that hope right up until they took the stage and began to play, and then the truth was evident—Dave, Stevie, C.J., and Mike were always multiple steps ahead of any other band on the scene.”

Added Moreno, “The Sinner album was magic, and the guys were on fire. I believe that the record is perfect as a whole, full of catchy hooks both vocally and musically. I heard and saw those songs before a million other people around the world did, and I knew back then that Drowning Pool was destined to win. It feels crazy to go from a hater to their frontman, but let that be my testimony to the undeniable force that remains Sinner.”

Drummer Mike Luce expanded on Moreno’s comments with his own thoughts.

“To be here marking twenty years of Sinner is just mind-blowing,” said Luce. “There are so many memories of this record that I’ll carry for life.  It would require a book to properly express all that’s in my head and heart and all that led up to and came out of its release. As a kid growing up and playing drums, I dreamed of being in a band with my buds and maybe someday putting out a record. Well, we did – and it kicked ass! Thanks to all that allowed this messed-up, work-in-progress of a soul to live a dream.”

Sinner peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and certified platinum following its release in June 2001 through Wind-up Records. Its lead single, ‘Bodies,’ reached the Top 10 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Chart, and No. 3 on the UK’s Rock and Metal Chart. Additionally, the song gained popularity through use in televised World Wrestling Entertainment events, and various TV ads and shows, as well as movies.

Soraia’s New Single Is Moving Up Billboard Chart

Courtesy: Wicked Cool Records

Independent rock band Soraia is making waves with its latest single.

The band’s new single, ‘Tight-Lipped,’ has reached #32 on Billboard’s latest Rock Indicator Charts. That is according to information in a news release distributed Monday about the band’s new single.

Soraia debuted its new single along with a b-side — a cover of Aerosmith’s ‘Angel’ — in February. Audiences can stream and download both songs here. The band debuted the companion video for ‘Tight-Lipped’ through Billboard along with the song’s premiere.

Front woman ZouZou Mansour was upbeat in talking about the attention that the band’s new single is receiving.

“The whole band is on fire with how well our newest single is doing!,” said Mansour. “From getting our video debut in Billboard, to a feature article in Loudwire, these are all first accomplishments we have been wanting for a long time. It’s thrilling to watch the song ascend on the Billboard Rock Indicator chart, and be added to Active Rock Commercial Radio Stations across the US. With every new release, we grow. Our fans, our label, and our team are who we really need to thank with all our hearts. Thank you, and can’t wait to see where the road takes us! Still we rise….”

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Tight-Lipped’ boasts the same raw, bluesy classic rock style and sound that the band presented in its 2020 album Dig Your Roots, the band’s third album. Vocalist ZouZou Mansour’s performance pairs with that of guitarist Nick Seditious and drummer Brianna Sig to make the steady rocker an infectious work that will stick with listeners. Bassist Travis Smith adds his own touch to the song to completely flesh out the arrangement.

The lyrical theme that accompanies ‘Tight-Lipped’ is something of a socially conscious message according to Mansour.

“‘Tight-Lipped’ is about a woman who politely refuses to challenge the status quo and direction of her life,” she said.  “It’s a final recognition of the part she has played in her own oppressive censoring – a soulful rebuke of her former beliefs on how to live. But by the end of the song, it becomes a triumphant declaration of who she now is: “‘Meet Ophelia–no more promises. I refuse to be so tight-lipped.’”

In other news, Soraia is scheduled to perform in support of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts Nov.21 at the Palace Theatre in Albany, NY.

Blacklite District Debuts ‘Hard Pill To Swallow’ Video

Underground electronic/hip-hop outfit Blacklite District has unveiled the video for its latest single.

The duo unveiled the video for the song ‘Hard Pill To Swallow’ on Oct. 10.  The song is the lead single from the pair’s upcoming fourth full-length studio recording Through The Ages, and originally premiered online via Billboard.com.  The album’s release date has not been announced.

Courtesy: TAG Publicity

The video was filmed outside the Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center in Anaheim, CA by DZFX Media.  Group member Kyle Pfeiffer said the interaction with DZFX Media happened by chance, adding the video was just one of a group filmed at the noted location.

“We worked with DZFX Media in Southern California on the video,” Pfeiffer said.  “I literally ran into him at Guitar Center while I was picking up something for our studio sessions for the new album.  We started talking right there at the counter, and ended up shooting three videos that week, with ‘Hard Pill To Swallow’ being the first.”

Marty Friedman Announces Release Date, Specs For New Live Recording; Debuts Clip From Recording

Courtesy: Prosthetic Records

Famed virtuoso guitarist Marty Friedman has a new live recording on the way, and in anticipation of its release, a clip has been released from the recording.

Friedman’s new live recording One Mad M.F. Live!! is scheduled to be released October 19 via Prosthetic Records.  Originally recorded April 14, 2018 on the last date of Friedman’s “Wall Of Sound Tour,” the recording will be available on CD, digital and special deluxe 2LP gatefold set with glow-in-the-dark wax as one pressing.  Other vinyl pressings will be in black sparkle and clear splatter.

In anticipation of the recording’s release, a from the performance of Friedman performing his song ‘Whiteworm’ has been released at GuitarWorld.com.  The song is streaming online at Friedman’s official bandcamp site. Pre-orders for the recording are open now at Friedman’s official store.

Friedman shared his thoughts on his new recording in a recent interview, noting that it gives audiences a lot to anticipate.

“This live album is a tip of the hat to the live albums that blew my mind when I was a kid,” Friedman said.  “The musical content itself is modern and atomic-powered, but the presentation is decidedly old-school.  The pacing of the show, the audience participation stuff, the special live arrangements of the songs, these are the things that got me all jacked up as a kid.  I like to give the audience the feeling that they are really getting something unique, something that only happens at THEIR show, not just a recital  of the songs exactly as they know them.  There are lots of happy accidents, once in a lifetime ad libs, things that could have only happened because we were high on that particular audience’s energy.”

Friedman added he felt that the performance presented in this recording achieved the goal for which he aimed in the first place.

“I like to lose myself in giving energy to the audience,” Friedman said.  “I want everyone to go home feeling like they were injected with a shot of positive vibes.  I think we captured that on the record.”

Courtesy: Prosthetic Records

In celebration of his new live recording’s release, Friedman will hold a special performance October 21 at the famed Viper Room in Los Angeles, California.  It will be his only live U.S. performance of the year.  Tickets for the show are available here.

One Bad M.F. Live!!  follows the release of Wall of Sound (2017).  The album debuted at #12 on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart.  Friedman said the album is one of the best that he has ever created.

“I’ve had albums that have charted higher, sold more and got more attention over my career, but Wall of Sound is the album I’ve been striving to make ever since I picked up a guitar,” Friedman said.  “I have an almost unhealthy amount of pride toward that album.  The thrill I get from playing the Wall of Sound stuff live is something that I wanted documented, and that’s what One Bad M.F. Live!! is.”

Marty Friedman Premieres Video For ‘Inferno’s’ Latest Single

Courtesy: Prosthetic Records

Courtesy: Prosthetic Records

Marty Friedman debuted his latest music video this week.

The veteran guitarist debuted the video for this song ‘Meathook’ this week via Billboard.  The video mixes footage of Friedman and his fellow musicians—including Shining (NOR) front man Jorgen Munkeby—performing live with various snippets of vintage butchers carving p large chunks of meat, car crashes, and other footage that is sure to leave audiences talking.  Audiences will also note behind the band in its live footage the logo of metal band Arch Enemy.  That is because the footage was recorded during his most recent tour with Arch Enemy.

‘Meathook’ comes from Friedman’s latest solo recording Inferno.  Friedman has spent the past two years touring in support of Inferno.  That time on the road included tours with Gus G., Arch Enemy, and Kreator.  His recent live schedule also marked the first time in more than twelve years that he has performed live in the United States.

On Sunday, August 14th, Friedman will wrap his global tour with an orchestra performance at the Famed Hollywood Bowl with veteran flamenco duo Gabriela, who also appeared on another of Inferno’s songs ‘Wicked Pancea.’  Friedman was upbeat when he discussed the upcoming performance.  “I’m so excited to play the Hollywood Bowl, and even more excited to do it with my friends Rodrigo y Gabriela AND a full orchestra!,” he said.  “They did a great collaboration with me on my Inferno record and we’ve met several times in Japan talking about how to make this Hollywood Bowl show a once in a lifetime kind of ultra special show.  Can not wait.”

Following his performance at the Hollywood Bowl Friedman will return to Japan to perform a full live set at SummerSonic, the country’s largest music festival.

Pierce The Veil has officially unveiled (no pun intended) its new video.

The video for ‘Circles,’ the band’s new single started running nationwide this morning on AMTV, AMTV2, MTV Hits, MTV Live and mtvU.  The video began running this morning at 6:00 ET.  It is also running live on MTV’s Snapchat Discovery channel and via Vevo.  It was directed by Drew Russ, who also directed the video for the band’s 2012 video for ‘King For A Day.’ That video has accumulated more than 70 million views since its premiere roughly four years ago.  The concept behind the band’s new video is loosely based on the 1991 feature film Nothing But Trouble.  The movie was written by Dan Akroyd (Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters 2, The Blues Brothers) and starred Chevy Chase (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Funny Farm, Fletch), John Candy (Uncle Buck, Who’s Harry Crumb?, Spaceballs), and Akroyd.  The song is currently a Top 40 Alternative radio stations across America.  The band’s new album Misdaventures premiered at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart.  And the band itself was nominated for Bandom of the Year by MTV in its annual “MTV Fandom Awards.”  Later this summer the band will embark on the “Made To Destroy Tour” alongside supporting acts Neck Deep and I Prevail.  A Winter UK tour is already set to follow from October 29th to November 17th.  The band’s complete tour schedule is noted below.

Michael Franti and Spearhead re-issued this week the powerful video for its song ‘Same As It Ever Was (It Starts Today).’

The video was re-worked to include footage of recent high profile cases involving police shootings and also features the song’s lyrics along with footage of Franti walking an anonymous city’s dimly-lit streets.  Franti sat down recently with Billboard to discuss the song and its new video.  While there he held an intimate acoustic performance of the song that can be seen here.  Since neither Franti nor the reporter was hooked to a mic, audiences will have to turn up the volume in order to hear them.  The newly re-worked music video meanwhile can be seen via Franti’s official YouTube channel.
