But at the same time, our festivals are about highlighting the strengths (or sometimes the needs) of our host city. There’s no more important way to do that right now than to support Mayor Turner’s efforts to help Houston recover from this spring’s flooding and we will be incorporating this message throughout our launch campaign.”

Danny Wimmer is the founder of Danny Wimmer Presents.  He shared his thoughts on the logistics of the concert’s location, its lineup, and more in his discussion with the press.  “Houston is one of the country’s biggest rock markets and, when combined with the impressive food scene happening here, it’s a natural location for a DWP festival,” he said.  “We’re thrilled to have such a diverse first-year lineup that includes Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains and Chevelle. With the inclusion of an incredible food experience and the Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Row, we are kicking off a powerhouse experience that will live in the market for many years to come!”

The Houston Open Air Festival’s band lineup is just part of what audiences have to look forward to this year.  There will also be a special food and drink experience for fans who attend.  This includes the Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Whiskey Row and a massive Gourmet Man Food Experience  The brands featured in the Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Whiskey Row include: Jack Daniel’s Black Label, Gentleman Jack, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire, Old Forester, and Woodford Reserve.  The complete lineup and menus for the Gourmet Man Food experience will be announced soon.

Houston Open Air is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, producer of: Louder Than Life, Chicago Open Air, Monster Energy Welcome To Rockville, Monster Energy Fort Rock, Monster Energy Aftershock, Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion, Monster Energy Rock Allegiance, Rock on the Range, and more.  It is sponsored by: Monster Energy, Jack Daniel’s, El Jimador, Fxck Cancer’s Dyin2Live, NRG Park, and SoHo Concessions, and more to be announced soon.

NRG Park is the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans and the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  It is located at One NRG Park in Houston, TX.

Carolina Rebellion Organizers Announce Details For 5th Annual Festival

Courtesy: Ashton-Magnuson Media

Courtesy: Ashton-Magnuson Media

The Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion Festival is one of North Carolina’s biggest annual music festivals if not the biggest. And this year, the festival will celebrate an important anniversary when it returns to the Rock City Campgrounds at Charlotte Motor Speedway on May 2nd and 3rd.

This year, the Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion Festival celebrates its fifth anniversary with one of its biggest lineups to date. The fifth annual festival will feature no fewer than thirty-six acts over two days. The acts tapped to perform this year include some of the biggest names in rock’s past, present, and future. Those names include the likes of: Slayer, Slipknot, Queensryche, Hatebreed, Cheap Trick, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Rise Against, Jackyl, In Flames, Periphery, and many other major names. The current lineup for this year’s festival is listed below.

Saturday, May 2

Korn, Marilyn Manson, Rise Against, Sammy Hagar & The Circle, Chevelle, Cheap Trick, Papa Roach, Bush, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, Jackyl, Of Mice & Men, Live, Motionless In White, Periphery, Beartooth, Young Guns, Marmozets, Islander and more.

Sunday, May 3

Slipknot, Godsmack, Slayer, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators, Breaking Benjamin, Halestorm, Queensrÿche, The Pretty Reckless, In This Moment, In Flames, Tremonti, Suicidal Tendencies, Testament, Hatebreed, Starset, Butcher Babies, We Are Harlot, Exodus, and more.

Slipknot front man Corey Taylor discussed the band’s addition to the bill and playing alongside other great names in rock in a recent interview saying, “We are very excited to be headlining Rebellion this year! We’re honored to be playing in the company of Cheap Trick, one of my all-time favorites, as well as playing with such good friends like Korn, Halestorm and Slayer!” Korn front man Jonathan Davis explained that the Carolina Rebellion festival plays a very important part in that band’s history as it served as the point of reunion for the band with guitarist Brian “Head” Welch in 2012. “Three years ago, we reunited with our brother Head on stage at Carolina Rebellion. Since then, we made a new album and toured the world together,” he said. He went on to note that the reunion means even more as the band plans on playing its debut album in its entirety at this year’s festival. And now we’re back to perform our first album in its entirety.  Rebellion is going to be a really special show for us,” he said.

Carolina Rebellion Festival Co-Executive Producer Gary Spivack of RockHouse discussed the importance of this year’s installment of what is the biggest of the Mid-Atlantic region’s rock festivals and of making it a special, memorable anniversary for audiences. “Rebellion is truly the Carolinas ’ biggest music party of the year,” he said. “For the 5th annual Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion, we wanted to acknowledge not only the best in current rock with the likes of Slipknot, Godsmack, Breaking Benjamin and more, but also celebrate some great iconic rock bands like Sammy Hagar & The Circle, Cheap Trick, Slayer and others to give the Rebels the widest range of Rock N’ Roll possible.”

Mainstream Rock Fans Won’t “Forget” Sakara’s Debut LP

Indie rock band Sakara’s debut album Forgetting What Was is a rather aptly titled first effort for the Springfield, MA based band. That’s because putting on this record is like opening up a musical time capsule. It will *ahem* remind audiences of the mainstream music scene during the late 90s and early 2000s. The album’s ten tracks will instantly leave listeners to conjure thoughts of Chevelle, Project 86, and Taproot. That is just part of what makes this album worth the listen. Just as worth noting on this record is the album’s lyrical side. The songs’ sometimes cryptic lyrics will lead to plenty of discussion among listeners. The album’s production values round out the album’s positives, making it a wholly enjoyable record for anyone that is a fan of what was one of rock’s most pivotal moments.

The ten songs that make up Forgetting What Was are a musical time capsule of sorts broken open. Right from the album’s outset, audiences will be reminded of bands the likes of Chevelle, Taproot, and Chevelle among others. That sound populates the remainder of the album’s songs right to the very end of the album’s closer, ‘Simulation Theory.’ Many might hear this and instantly ask why it is important in the overall picture of the album. It is important because of the fact that so much of the rock world is dominated right now by indecipherable cookie monster vocals and crunching, down-tuned guitars. This applies both in the mainstream world and the underground rock scene. Given, there are bands whose albums actually boast real vocals and guitars, and whose drummers don’t rely on blast beats. But they seem to be few and far between. Add in the musical trip back in time to one of the industry’s most pivotal moments, and Forgetting What Was becomes an even more welcome reminder of what once was.

The musical side of Forgetting What Was is key to the album’s success. It takes the proverbial road less traveled thanks to its obvious musical influences from the late 90s and early 2000s. The album’s lyrical side is just as important as that of its music. The album’s lyrics are certain to create discussion among the band’s audiences. That is because the songs’ lyrics are at times somewhat cryptic to say the least. ‘Jonah,’ the album’s opener, is proof of this. The song was allegedly influenced by the biblical story of Jonah and the Whale, according to front man Dan Obrien. And no, that doesn’t mean that Sakara is a “Christian rock band” either. He sings in this song, “Burning candles in a churning sea/Waiting to be spit out like a missile from the war machine/There’s a drain at the center of the ocean/All I need is to pull the plug and see/Water will flow into the wells of the Earth/And leave floating visions from you to me.” It’s rather easy to see how this song could be misinterpreted. But the resultant discussions on lyrical significance actually serve to make the album even more worth the listen. Having the knowledge that a song such as this would be influenced from a biblical story would eventually lead to the discussion of how such an influence would come about. From there, discussions on each of the album’s remaining works will rise. And those resultant discussions will go to prove yet again the value of Forgetting What Was.

The music and lyrics that make up the ten tracks on Sakara’s debut album add quite a bit of depth to the record. By themselves, they make Forgetting What Was a fully successful debut for the members of Sakara. The album’s production values should not be ignored in the albums overall picture, either. Producer Johnny April deserves applause for his ability to balance each song, giving equal attention to each song’s music and vocal sections. And even the more minute nuances added into each song will be caught with a proper, thorough examination of each song. April’s ability to balance those parts with the songs’ primary sections rounds out the album. His sensibility and talent behind the boards along with the album’s writing and the talent of the band’s members together make Forgetting What Was quite the memorable record.

Sakara is currently touring in support of Forgetting What Was. The band will be in Rochester, New York alongside veteran rock band Skid Row.
