Counterpunch Tackles Religious Hypocrisy In New Single

Surf punk band Counterpunch debuted its new single, ‘Rewire‘ this week.

The band premiered the song, which is the title track from the group’s forthcoming album — due out June 17 through Thousand Islands Records — Tuesday. The song’s musical arrangement delivers a solid, up-tempo punk presentation that interestingly enough, lends itself to comparison to some of the older works from Avenged Sevenfold at the same time. That in itself will make this song engaging and entertaining for many audiences.

The song’s lyrical theme is a cry against the hypocrisy of the pious, self-righteous masses who fill the pews one day (or more a week), thinking themselves so perfect, and who are so quick to cast the first stone.

The band talked about that matter in a prepared statement.

“‘Rewire’ tackles the double standard people of faith create by showing face in a place of worship once a week and then acting like a piece of human garbage elsewhere,” the statement reads. “They scream outrage over everything they don’t agree with as ‘against God’s way’ while ignoring the teachings of their faith. Every religion at its core is about loving your fellow man and reverence toward whatever ‘god’ you happen to believe in. Whether they choose to follow through on what they are taught, however, is another story.”

Counterpunch Debuts New Single, ‘We, The Role’

Surf punk band Counterpunch debuted its new single this week.

The band debuted its new single ‘We, The Role‘ Tuesday. The song is the b-side from the band’s recently released single ‘Handbook for the Recently Debriefed.’ Its debut comes less than a month after the band debuted the song and its companion lyric video.

The record is scheduled for release Jan. 29 through Thousand Islands Records in the United States and SBAM Records in the European Union. Pre-orders for Handbook for the Recently Debriefed are open. Quantities are limited to 100 in each of the record’s three variants.

While the band’s clear Pennywise influence is just as prevalent in ‘We, The Role,’ as in the single’s title song, the musical arrangement featured in ‘We, The Role’ will also appeal to fans of bands, such as Good Charlotte, Simple Plan. That is evidenced in the guitar arrangement and vocal delivery style.

The lyrical theme that accompanies the song’s musical arrangement comes across as a commentary of sorts. Not having an explanation from the band, it is somewhat difficult to determine the topic exactly. It would seem from what can be deciphered that the lyrical theme is a commentary on how society has become in recent years. That is just this critic’s interpretation and should not be taken as gospel.

Surf punk band Counterpunch debuted its new single this week along with the song’s companion video.

The band debuted its new single ‘Handbook for the Recently Debriefed‘ Tuesday along with the song’s companion lyric video. The song is the title track in the band’s forthcoming 7″. The record is scheduled for release Jan. 29 through Thousand Islands Records in the United States and SBAM Records in the European Union.

Pre-orders for Handbook for the Recently Debriefed are open. Quantities are limited to 100 in each of the record’s three variants.

Counterpunch’s first new music since the release of the band’s 2014 album Bruises, ‘Handbook for the Recently Debriefed’ presents a musical arrangement whose high-energy guitars and melodic vocals will appeal to fans of bands, such as Pennywise, NOFX, and Bad Religion.

The lyrical content that accompanies the musical content in Counterpunch’s new song comes across as a political commentary. It seemingly hints at a statement about how the Republican Party has tied itself to Donald Trump and the result of that connection.
