Riversend Takes On Pantera Classic For Its Latest Single

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent rock band Riversend debuted its latest single this week.

The band premiered its take of Pantera’s ‘Revolution Is My Name‘ Friday, and accompanied the cover with the premiere of its companion video. Riversend’s take on the song is a stark contrast to its source material, being presented in quite the stripped down rendition. The semi-acoustic take on the much heavier original gives the song a whole new identity that is certain to interest listeners.

Vocalist Olivia Horovitz said the risk of taking on the song was deliberate.

“We knew it was a bold choice when we decided to cover a song by Pantera, but we did it for the fun of creating something new and different,” Horovitz said.

Guitarist/bassist Zach Miranowic expanded on Horovitz’s comments.

“When I heard Olivia singing the chorus to ‘Revolution Is My Name’ and thought, ‘Hey, that would be something really cool to record because I’ve never heard anybody do a Pantera cover in that way,” Miranowic said.

The video for the band’s cover is a straight forward presentation. It features the band performing its take on the Pantera standard in a studio. The lighting and decor gives the video something of a psychedelic 1960s/70s vibe. That vibe creates quite the contrast to the song, adding to the engagement and entertainment ensured through the song and video.

The premiere of the band’s new cover came more than a month after the band debuted its then latest single, “‘Phantom‘.

The Reed Effect Premieres New Single, ‘Mad Dog,’ Video

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Rock band The Reed Effect recently debuted the video for the final single from its album, 1973.

The band premiered the video for its new single, ‘Mad Dog‘ last week. The album’s fifth single, it follows the album’s other trio of singles, ‘Megalomania,’ ‘Rise Up‘ ‘Trampled Under,’ and ‘Fine Here.‘

The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new single is a catchy, blues-rock composition. To a point, the overall presentation is actually comparable to certain works from the likes of Audioslave and South of Eden among others

Front man Kirk Reed talked about the song’s musical arrangement and lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

‘”Mad Dog” was based on a riff I originally had from the previous lineup of this band, but laid dormant for a time and eventually came back to life with Chris [Reed] and [drummer] Bryan [Fontez],” Reed said. “We reshaped it of course and created a new vocal melody with lyrics inspired by a story about a friend’s situation.

Reed continued, “I can’t even remember the details, however, it was basically about a ‘Holier than Thou’ group of people with whom my friend had a debate with one of its members which got out of hand. Subsequently, she got the rest of her crew to gang up on my friend on social media. Whatever cause she was behind got lost in the chaos of her and her friends bullying my friend. The whole thing got misconstrued and damaged my friend’s reputation for no good reason. It was So unfair and is an example of how mindless mob mentality can wreak havoc. So, my heart went out to him, and I wrote a song about it.”‘

The video for the band’s new single features The Reed Effect, including Reed’s late brother Chris, performing live as the song plays over the visualization.

Gears Debuts New Single, ‘All Or Nothing,’ Companion Video

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Gears debuted its latest single over the weekend along with a companion video.

The band premiered its new single, ‘All Or Nothing’ Friday, along with its companion video. The premieres come less than two months after the band debuted its then latest single, ‘Fix What’s Broken‘ and its companion video. That song and video came  three months after the premiere of the band’s then latest single, ‘Lost Again.’

The musical arrangement featured in Gears’ new single is a stark contrast from the arrangements in most of the band’s existing songs. That is because instead of the so familiar Sevendust style approaches that the band has taken, the band instead opts for something much heavier in the aggro-rock vein. There are breakdowns throughout the song, as a matter of fact, that lend themselves to comparison to works from Korn while the sound and style of the verses is more of an original melodic hard rock composition.

No information about the song’s lyrical theme was provided in the press release announcing the premiere of the new single and video. Lyrics were not provided with the song’s video, either. In listening to the song, the seeming theme is that of someone who is stuck in a toxic relationship. That is just this critic’s interpretation.

The song’s video is very similar, stylistically to that of the previous single. It features front man Trip Sixx in front of a random background, performing his part of the song and cuts occasionally to his band mates playing their respective parts for the song.

Horizon Theory Tackles Mental Health In New Single, ‘December’

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent rock band Horizon Theory kicked off the weekend by premiering its new single and video.

The band premiered its new single, ‘December‘ and the song’s companion video Friday. The single’s premiere came more than a month after the premiere of its then latest single, ‘Past Life‘.

The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new single is an intriguing presentation. For the most part, the arrangement follows a familiar brooding melodic hard rock formula, as is evidenced through the sound and style of the song’s guitar line and the contemplative sound and style of the vocal delivery. That approach is contrasted at points, with some metalcore style vocals. The two vocal sides make for quite the interesting contrast and is sure to engage listeners, along with the song’s overall instrumentation.

According to front man Josh Harrington, the song’s lyrical theme addresses mental health from a personal perspective.

‘While writing “December”, I kind of had one thing in mind: at times, everyone gets to a point in their life where they just don’t know if they can go on anymore,” Harrington said. “We play this fictitious role that only we know isn’t true. We try to fulfill those things that people think we are supposed to do and be, and I had reached that point myself. It was time to start being myself – that’s when I really started to see who and what really mattered in my life.”

Harrington added, the song took on a whole new meaning later when he fell ill and was forced to sit out the band’s tour. The situation led him to become depressed and that as he overcame his illness and depression, the song helped him recover from both matters. He said he hopes the song will help listeners as much as it did him.

The video for Horizon Theory’s new single is a straight forward presentation. It features the band performing its new single on a sound stage meant to show how the band looks on stage in person. The song plays over the visualization.

In other news, Horizon Theory is scheduled to perform at this year’s Capulet Fest, which is scheduled to be held July 1/2 at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in Thompson, CT. Also on the schedule for this year’s Capulet Fest are the likes of Memphis May Fire, Norma Jean, and Saul. Tickets and more information are available here.

Rahway Debuts ‘Carry You’ Video

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent hard rock band Rahway premiered the video for its latest single this weekend.

The band unveiled the video for its recently released single, ‘Carry You‘ Friday. The video’s premiere came less than a month after the band debuted the video by itself.

The video features the band performing its new single on a sound stage after being invited to the shoot’s location as part of the video’s story. It all comes to a surprising end, which will be left for audiences to discover for themselves. As a hint, the surprise end involves a masked villain.

‘Carry You’ is featured in the band’s new as yet untitled EP, on which the band is working.

The song’s musical arrangement is a heavy, driving composition that is grounded in its rich guitar line. The vocals and rhythm section add their own depth to the whole to ensure listeners’ engagement and entertainment even more.

According to a statement from the band’s the song’s lyrical theme focuses on the dynamic between family members as one handles most of the emotional load while the other takes advantage of the other.

“‘Carry You’ tells the story of a person who was carrying a loved one through life, or so they thought, because in the end, it was the loved one doing the real heavy lifting,” the statement reads. “It is an epic story. One that we’ve all been through in life, because we’re all selfish beings and not realizing that without others in our lives, we can’t survive.”

Riversend Debuts New Single, ‘Phantom,’ Companion Video

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent music act Riversend premiered its latest single and video last month.

The band premiered its single, ‘Phantom’ and its video late last month. The song is a melancholy presentation all the way around what with its moody guitar line and equally mournful vocals.

According to a statement from the band, the mood set through the song’s musical arrangement and lyrics is intentional.

“‘Phantom‘ is an elusive art rock track about depression and self-loathing,” the statement reads. “With emotional vocals we try to convey the pain caused by the demons in ourselves. (Guitarist) Zach (Miranowic)delivers expressive and deeply layered music to accompany the melancholic lyrical theme. (Singer) Olivia’s (Horovitz) intimate lyrics were written to represent her own struggles, knowing virtually any listener can empathize. We wanted this beautiful yet haunting track to be relatable, understanding that depression has touched most people’s lives in one way or another.”

The video for Riversend’s new single works in partner with the group’s new single, presenting imagery, such as rain falling on a window, a person sitting in a darkened room that is lit only by light from the outside, and a person reading through a bible, apparently to try to find some inspiration and meaning.

Rahway Debuts New Single, ‘Carry You’

Independent hard rock band Rahway premiered its new single, ‘Carry You‘ as this weekend opened.

The band debuted the single Friday. The song is featured in the band’s new as yet untitled EP, on which the band is working. The song’s musical arrangement is a heavy, driving composition that is grounded in its rich guitar line. The vocals and rhythm section add their own depth to the whole to ensure listeners’ engagement and entertainment even more.

Gears Debuts New Single, ‘Fix What’s Broken,’ Companion Video

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Hard rock outfit Gears kicked off the weekend with the premiere of its latest single and video.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Fix What’s Broken‘ and the song’s companion video Friday. The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new single boasts a familiar melodic hard rock sound and stylistic approach that is easily comparable to work from the likes of Sevendust and The Veer Union. Even in that continued similarity in sound and style the arrangement still boasts its own identity, which helps it succeed in its own right.

The lyrical theme that accompanies the song’s musical content is, according to front man William “Tripp Sixx” Gonzalez, a commentary about approving of one’s self, rather than trying to get approval of self from others.

“You push and you push, trying to get to a point where the masses think you should be. For what? At the end of the day, you have to do you for you,” Gonzalez said. “I’m at a point in music and in life where I do what I want. I pushed through doubts and demons, worked on myself and built up that confidence, and said screw it. If you are waiting for your happiness to be brought to you, offered to you, or to come out of somebody else’s mouth…take a seat because you will be waiting until you die! Happiness does not come in a store, you can’t find it anywhere (except within yourself), and nobody but you can give or take it from you!”

The video for Gears’ new single is a simple presentation. It features Tripp Sixx front and center singing along in a very tight close up as the song plays over the visualization. His band mates are in the background, rocking out as he takes the camera’s attention.

The debut of Gears’ new single comes three months after the premiere of the band’s then latest single, ‘Lost Again.’ More information on that song, the band’s new single, video, and all of the band’s latest news is available at:

Horizon Theory Debuts New Single, ‘Past Life’, Video

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent rock band Horizon Theory debuted its new single and video to kick off the weekend.

The band unveiled its new single, ‘Past Life‘ and its companion video Friday. The song’s arrangement instantly conjures thoughts of so many nu metal acts of similar sound and style. That is evidenced through the blending of the melodic hard rock instrumentation and the vocals, which at times are screams and at others equally powerful clean vocals.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the premiere of the new single and video. No lyrics were provided with the video, either. In listening through the song however, it would seem that the lyrics infer a commentary about overcoming certain obstacles in life. Those obstacles in this case seem to be certain people, at least from what can be interpreted. This is all just this critic’s interpretation.

The video for the band’s new single is more straight forward. It presents the band performing its new single on a sound stage as the song plays over the visualization. The sound stage is dressed up to look like a stage, perhaps in order to reflect what the band might look like in a live setting.

Fire Follows Debuts New Single, ‘Finally Home’

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent hard rock band Fire Follows debuted its latest single Friday.

The band kicked off the weekend with the premiere of its new single, ‘Finally Home.’ The single’s premiere follows that of the band’s then latest single, ‘Say Words‘ and its companion lyric video in January.

The musical arrangement featured in the band’s now latest single is a stark contrast to that of its predecessor (and even its predecessors, ‘Shedding The Skin‘ and ‘The Puppeteer’). That is because instead of being the heavy, aggressive works that those songs are, this song is the polar opposite. It is more of a gentle, flowing ballad type composition. The sense of peace that it projects works directly with the song’s lyrical theme, which the band addressed in a prepared statement.

“‘Finally Home’ centers around an origin story through spiritual awakening,” the statement reads in part. “The listener is sure to see the lyrics come to life in their mind as (band founder) Chris (Watt) outlines the process of living life in quasi-isolation and the revelations that ensue from pursuing higher and ultimate truth.”
