Whitechapel Debuts NSFW Video For New Single, ‘A Bloodsoaked Symphony’

Courtesy: Metal Blade Records

Whitechapel debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band premiered the video for its new single, ‘A Bloodsoaked Symphony’ Wednesday. The song is the second single from the band’s forthcoming album, Kin, which is scheduled for release Oct. 29 through Metal Blade Records. The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Lost Boy,’ last month.

The NSFW video features front man Phil Bozeman taking what are supposed to be the corpses of his dead parents to a cave where he conducts an incantation to bring them back to life. This as blood drips from the cave’s ceiling, and as he drinks what is supposed to be blood as part of the incantation.

This is not meant to promote anything anti-Christian. The visualization, directed by David Brodsky, is meant to show the desperation that Bozeman feels at having lost his parents. This even though in the band’s most recent album, The Valley, at least one of the record’s songs seemed to pain his parents as dysfunctional, ironically. It leads one to wonder why Bozeman would feel any mournfulness at their passing.

The musical arrangement featured in Whitechapel’s new song is just as heavy as anything that the band has ever crafted. Bozeman’s gutteral screams pair with the heavy, crunching guitars, and the equally heavy bass and drums to fully immerse listeners in the song.

Kin will release on a variety of platforms, all of which are noted below along with the album’s track listing.

We’re grateful to share this INITIATION with all you Spiritual Soldiers on the frontline helping to bring music back to this f***** up world.”

Their role in the world in its almost infinite capacity, and to help remind each other that we are ALL in this together. Adam Nolan Trio’s New Album Will Appeal Mostly Among Modern Jazz Audiences

Courtesy: Jazz Promo Services

Saxophonist Adam Nolan, front man, founder and namesake of the Adam Nolan Trio, described the music in his group’s recently released album, Prim and Primal as being “based on the concept of clean tidy musical expression mixed with the complete contrast of a more primal expression.”  That is an apt description of the musical arrangements featured in the six-song record, which was released Aug. 19.  That blend of approaches is on full display right from the 57-minute record’s outset in the form of ‘Expand The Tempo.’  The longest of the album’s entries, this song will be discussed shortly.  ‘The Magic Carpet,’ the album’s penultimate entry,’ is another example of how that balance of improvisation and structure works to make the album interesting.  It will be discussed a little later.  Much the same can be said of the album’s closer, ‘Kung Fu Master vs. The Ape.’ Yes, that really is the song’s title.  All three songs show in their own way, how Nolan and his fellow musicians – Dominic Mullan (drums) and Derek Whyte (double bass) – so expertly balance chaos and control here, and make the album in whole a unique presentation that any modern jazz fan will find worth hearing.

Adam Nolan Trio’s recently released album, Prim and Primal is an intriguing addition to this year’s field of new jazz albums.  That is exhibited throughout the record.  The record’s opener, ‘Expand The Tempo,’ is just one of the songs that does so well to show what makes the album stand out.  Clocking in at nearly 11-and-a-half minutes, the song presents itself as a full-on improve composition with Nolan, Mullan, and Whyte each working through the song as it progresses.  That might explain why it runs so long; it just develops organically.  At the same time, what feels and sounds like a series of random notes and beats is really an interesting musical conversation between each musician.  The group does not necessarily expand the song’s tempo at any point, but its performance expands that noted conversation.  That is evidenced through the structure that seems to develop over the course of the song; this despite the controlled chaos that remains evident.  Whyte’s bass line works well with Mullan’s polyrhythmic patterns to form a solid overall counter to Nolan’s work on the sax.  The whole, from beginning to end, makes for a fully immersive, engaging and entertaining composition that does so well to show the mix of “tidy musical expression” and “primal expression.”  Audiences will fully understand and appreciate that when they hear the song for themselves.  It is just one of the songs that serves the end that Nolan described.  ‘The Magic Carpet,’ the album’s penultimate song, does just as well to show that mix of prim and primal.

‘The Magic Carpet’ does well to show the mix of prim and primal again through all three musicians’ performances.  Mullan solidly keeps time on the drums while also adding just the right subtle accents.  Those accents come primarily through his use of the various cymbals on his kit.  What’s more, the polyrhythmic approach is clear, too.  Adding to that, the group’s overall approach in itself really shows the control.  The manner in which each line is performed is where the more primal aspect comes into play.  That each line compliments the others so well within all of that makes the song stand out so well, dynamics and all.  It is just one more way in which the album’s overall approach makes the record work.  The record’s finale, ‘Kung Fu Master vs. The Ape,’ is yet another unique way in which the prim and primal are balanced here.

Nolan’s full-on improved performance in the opening bars of ‘Kung Fu Master vs. The Ape’ and the eventual addition of Mullan’s semi-manic performance on the drums, creates a unique picture, considering the album’s title.  The subtle start that leads into the all out energy between the pair creates a picture of something that is perhaps right out of an old Bruce Lee movie.  Whyte’s work on bass serves to enrich that picture even more as it compliments Mullan’s work.  Again, the whole song presents an air of structure even as the performances (especially Nolan’s) seem so primal and chaotic.  One can only imagine what a scene, such as this would create.  A painting would not even do it justice.  Nolan is all over the place, as is Mullan, but even considering that, the noted direction in it all is just evident enough to make things interesting.  The whole is as memorable and notable as the other songs examined here.  When those songs are examined along with the album’s three remaining tracks, the whole makes Prim and Primal a presentation that any modern jazz fan will find interesting.

Adam Nolan Trio’s recently released album, Prim and Primal is a unique presentation.  From beginning to end, its featured arrangements fully live up to Nolan’s description of the songs exhibiting an intriguing mix of “clean, tidy musical expression” and “more primal expression.”  The primal expression presented within the arrangements against the bigger, overall structure in each work makes every work fully immersive, engaging and entertaining.  Each of the works examined here does well to support the noted statements.  When they are examined along with the rest of the record’s songs, the whole makes the album a work that any modern jazz fan will find worth hearing.

Prim and Primal is available now.  More information on the album is available along with all of Adam Nolan Trio’s latest news at:

Gary Hector Premieres ‘This One’s For You’ Video

Courtesy: CowgirlZen Entertainment

Gary Hector premiered the video for his latest single this week.

Hector premiered the video for his new single, ‘This One’s For You‘ Wednesday. The single and video are the second from Hector’s album, National Trash, which was released July 30. Hector premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Today I Ride Alone‘ June 28.

Hector talked about his new single in a prepared statement.

“This second single, ‘Baby, This One’s For You,’ from the album National Trash, is a hauntingly beautiful slice of Americana, with shades of classic country and classic rock n roll,” he said. “This song finds itself in a “straight to the point “mood, armed with potent lyrics.”

As Hector noted, the song’s musical arrangement is pure, vintage honky tonk country. The twang of the guitar is there, along with Hector’s vocal delivery, which expertly compliments the instrumentation.

The video for ‘This One’s For You’ also pays tribute to the musicians and performers who laid the groundwork for today’s music industry. It does this by featuring pictures, of famous figures, such as Elvis, Hank Williams, and Johnny Cash, as well as Jimmie Rodgers, Charley Pride and others. The pictures hang on a line inside a small shack in which Hector performs his new single. This is all presented in black and white to help translate the tribute to the groundbreakers of country and rock.

Courtesy: Metal Blade Records

With the release of its new live recording, Symbol of Salvation Live one month away, Armored Saint debuted another clip from the recording this week.

The band premiered a live clip of its performance of ‘The Truth Always Hurts‘ Wednesday. The video is the second from the recording, following last month’s premiere of the live clip of ‘Symbol of Salvation.’

According to information provided about the recording, the concert featured in the recording was capture at a 2018 performance at New York City’s famed Gramercy Theater. The concert celebrated the 30th anniversary of the release of the band’s 1991 album by the same name. This even though the album was released in 1991.

Bassist Joey Vera offered the following comment about the concert.

“I felt like showing Symbol in another light was a great homage to the record itself.  Also, having all the fans be there and part of that event is a way for us to say ‘Thank you!’ For, without them, we can’t do any of this in the first place.”

Added Vera about the concert, which was capture by a six-camera crew, “The vibe in the room was so great.  The fans made us feel so welcome, like we had come home for a celebration of sorts, and we all celebrated Symbol of Salvation. It gave me chills hearing people sing along to songs like ‘Burning Question’, a song we never had played live before.”

The recording, which will come ahead of the band’s upcoming dates with Black Label Society and Prong, will release on a variety of platforms, all of which are noted below. The band’s noted run with BLS and Prong is scheduled to run from Dec. 27-31 along cities along the West Coast region.

Angels & Airwaves Debuts New LP’s Fifth Single; Live TV Appearance, Tour Dates Planned

Angels & Airwaves is picking up the push for its new album.

The band unveiled the latest single Wednesday, from its forthcoming album, Lifeforms. The song, ‘Timebomb,’ is the fifth from the album, which is scheduled for release Friday.

The band premiered the video for the album’s fourth single, ‘Spellbound’ early this month. Its release was preceded by the release of the album’s other singles, ‘Losing My Mind,‘ ‘Restless Souls,‘ and ‘Euphoria.‘

Front man Tom DeLonge said in a prepared statement, the song is meant lyrically, to address the feelings of pressure through which everyone goes through.

“‘Timebomb’ is a special song to me because it represents the emotional equivalent of an armed device about to blow, said DeLonge. “I think everyone can relate to the pressure of life bearing down on a young teenage heart.  It’s taken me a long time to present my art in the way I envisioned over a decade ago. Lifeforms is the first part of what I saw could be possible then.”

The musical arrangement that accompanies the song’s accessible lyrical theme is itself accessible. Its full-on electronic sound and stylistic approach is infectious what with its steady beat and harmonies.
