AEG Live is bringing another new music festival to audiences in the northeast.

This fall, AEG Live will debut the new music festival, the Revolution Rock Festival.  The festival, fueled by Monster Energy, will be held Saturday, September 17th outdoors at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, CT.  The lineup for the inaugural festival includes: Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer, Volbeat, Chevelle, Of Mice & Men, Anthrax, Ghost, Killswitch Engage, Sevendust, The Amity Affliction, KYNG, Nothing More, Twelve Foot Ninja, Crobot, and Devour The Day.  Joe Litvag is Executive Producer of the Revolution Rock Festival for AEG Live.  He discussed the work and planning put in to make the festival a reality in a recent interview, and the hopes for the festival’s future.  “We’ve spent the better part of two years searching for the perfect location to create a festival that is just for the rabid rock fans of New England,” he said.  “After seeing the incredible property and amenities offered at Foxwoods Resort Casino, I knew we had finally found a home. It’s really easy to get to from just about anywhere in the region, and the fans can make a whole weekend out of it with a top-notch resort, golf, spa, shopping, great restaurants, and of course the gaming. Our hope is that Revolution Rock Festival will become an institution for rock fans of the Northeast and will be thought of as ‘New England’s rock festival’ for years to come!”

But at the same time, our festivals are about highlighting the strengths (or sometimes the needs) of our host city. There’s no more important way to do that right now than to support Mayor Turner’s efforts to help Houston recover from this spring’s flooding and we will be incorporating this message throughout our launch campaign.”

Danny Wimmer is the founder of Danny Wimmer Presents.  He shared his thoughts on the logistics of the concert’s location, its lineup, and more in his discussion with the press.  “Houston is one of the country’s biggest rock markets and, when combined with the impressive food scene happening here, it’s a natural location for a DWP festival,” he said.  “We’re thrilled to have such a diverse first-year lineup that includes Avenged Sevenfold, Alice In Chains and Chevelle. With the inclusion of an incredible food experience and the Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Row, we are kicking off a powerhouse experience that will live in the market for many years to come!”

The Houston Open Air Festival’s band lineup is just part of what audiences have to look forward to this year.  There will also be a special food and drink experience for fans who attend.  This includes the Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Whiskey Row and a massive Gourmet Man Food Experience  The brands featured in the Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Whiskey Row include: Jack Daniel’s Black Label, Gentleman Jack, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey, Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Fire, Old Forester, and Woodford Reserve.  The complete lineup and menus for the Gourmet Man Food experience will be announced soon.

Houston Open Air is produced by Danny Wimmer Presents, producer of: Louder Than Life, Chicago Open Air, Monster Energy Welcome To Rockville, Monster Energy Fort Rock, Monster Energy Aftershock, Monster Energy Carolina Rebellion, Northern Invasion, Monster Energy Rock Allegiance, Rock on the Range, and more.  It is sponsored by: Monster Energy, Jack Daniel’s, El Jimador, Fxck Cancer’s Dyin2Live, NRG Park, and SoHo Concessions, and more to be announced soon.

NRG Park is the home of the NFL’s Houston Texans and the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  It is located at One NRG Park in Houston, TX.

Slayer Wins Award For ‘Repentless,’ Announces New Tour Dates

For those that missed it, there is some big news from the Slayer camp to report today,

Earlier this week Loudwire announced the winners of its fifth annual Loudwire Awards.  And Slayer was among this year’s winners.  The band received the award in the “Best Metal Video” category for the companion video to its song ‘Repentless,’ the title track from its recently released twelfth full-length studio recording.  The video faced some tough competition from the likes of Iron Maiden, Slipknot, Mastodon, and Ghost.  Ironically Ghost won the award in the “Best Metal Album” category.  The video for ‘Repentless’ was shot at the Los Angeles women’s prison, Sybil Brand.  It was directed by BJ McDonell and produced by Felissa Rose.  McDonnell is best known for his work on the 2013 horror sequel, Hatchet III.  He also worked as a cameraman on Jack Reacher, Tomorrowland, and The Interview.  It also features cameos from some big names in the horror movie genre including: Danny Trejo (Machete, From Dusk Til Dawn, Once Upon A Time in Mexico), Tony Moran (Halloween’s Michael Meyers, American Poltergeist, Dead Bounty), Derek Mears (Predators, Friday The 13th, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunter), and Sean Whalen (Men in Black, Halloween II, Twister).  When asked about the win, McDonnell praised the band’s competition as well as those that worked on the ‘Repentless’ video including the band.  “We were up against some serious talent and great videos all around,” he said.  “And I’m just overjoyed that we won.  Everyone in our cast and crew worked their butts off to have the video truly represent the song and the band, and we think we achieved that.  Working with Slayer has been a dream and I really hope to do it again soon.  Thanks to everyone who voted for ‘Repentless.'”  Audiences can check out the video for ‘Repentless’ online now via YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjb0j9l1sz4.

Epicloud Is Another Successful Experiment From Rock’s Musical Mad Scientist

Courtesy: Inside Out Music USA/Century Media

The musical mad scientist himself, Devin Townsend, is back again with a brand new album.  Townsend wasted little time with this album, as it comes barely a year after the release of his previous two albums under the DTP moniker, “Deconstructed” and “Ghost.”  And just as those two albums (and the pair that preceded it) were amazingly original opuses, so is “Epicloud.”

Devin Townsend is hard rock’s answer to Dave Stewart.  Just as Stewart does, Townsend has re-invented himself on every one of his albums.  “Epicloud” is no exception to that rule.  The album’s opener, ‘Effervescent!’ is quite the interesting piece.  It’s a short choir style piece that clocks in at just under a minute long.  The “choir” that Townsend uses here also carries through a good portion of the album including a couple of the album’s best songs, ‘Lucky Animals’ and ‘Liberation.’  The subtle addition of a sax part in ‘Lucky Animals’ makes it that much more enjoyable.  The hard driving ‘Liberation’ is a great track in its own right.  In comparison to ‘Lucky Animals’ it’s still a good hard rock song.  But its style is different from that one.  And it’s just as different from ‘True North.’

The album’s first trio of actual full length songs is different from one another.  Each song is just as different from one another as the rest of this album’s songs are from each other, too.  What’s more, not only are they different from each other, they’re so entirely creative.  ‘Epicloud’ is such a creative work as it seems to have a touch of Euro-metal mixed in with speed metal, and Townsend’s own mad scientist mixture of ingredients.  Just as with every previous release from this musical genius, every track on this disc is a brand new experiment.  And every experiment is one that will keep listeners’ ears from start to finish.  It proves that just as from album to album, fans never know what to expect from one song to the next even on this brand new release.  It goes without saying that Townsend has impressed yet again with this new release.  He may very well have with this release, one of the year’s best hard rock/metal albums of 2012.

Devin Townsend will be touring across Europe this Fall and Winter in support of ‘Epicloud.’  He will kick off the European leg of his tour October 23rd at Northampton University in Newcastle, UK.  Fans can get a full list of tour dates and all the latest DTP news online at http://www.hevydevy.com.
