ESPN Announces Broadcast Schedule For Upcoming MLB Games

The Cubs and Brewers will go under the lights Sunday night live on ESPN.

The National League Central foes, who are one, two in the division, will close out their three-game weekend series at Wrigley Field.  Milwaukee blanked Chicago 7-0 in the series’ opener Friday.  The teams face off in the series’ second game Saturday afternoon at 2:20 p.m.

Jon Lester (3-2) is scheduled to start for Chicago in Sunday’s game.  His last time on the mound was May 7 against Miami.  Lester allowed two runs on eight hits over the course of six innings in that game, and struck out six batters.

Jhoulys Chacin (3-3) is scheduled to get the start for Milwaukee in Sunday’s game.  His last time on the mound was May 6 against Washington.  He allowed two runs, two walks, two earned runs and three hits over five innings in the game,despite the Brewers’ 5-3 win over the Nats.  Chacin also allowed one home run during his time on the mound.

Milwaukee has proven better at home than on the road so far this year, going 16-8 at home and 8-8 on the road.  However, the Brewers are in the midst of a seven-game win streak.  The Cubs meanwhile, 13-6 at home and 9-8 on the road so far this season and comes into Saturday’s game on the heels of their Friday loss to the Brewers.  The loss comes after the Cubs took three of four against Miami this week.

Sunday’s ESPN Sunday Night Baseball presented by Taco Bell broadcast launches at 7 p.m. Matt Vasgersian will anchor the broadcast.  He will be joined in the booth by analysts Jessica Mendoza and Alex Rodriguez for additional commentary.  Jon Sciambi and Chris Singleton will have the call on ESPN Radio.

Sunday night’s game will also be available in Spanish on ESPN Deportes and online via the ESPN app.  It will be preceded at 6 p.m. by ESPN’s MLB pre-game broadcast of Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown presented by Chevrolet.  Karl Ravech will anchor the broadcast.  He will be joined by analysts Mark Teixera and Tim Kurkjian for additional commentary.

Milwaukee will have no time to rest following Sunday’s match.  The Brewers will be back in action at home on ESPN Monday night on the network’s weekly Monday Night Baseball presented by USAA.  Monday’s game is the opener in a four-game series against the National League East-leading Philadelphia Phillies.  The starting pitchers for Monday’s game have not been announced.

Karl Ravech will anchor Monday night’s broadcast.  He will be joined in the booth by analysts David Ross Tim Kurkjian for additional commentary.

ESPN’s MLB coverage coverage continues Wednesday with Wednesday Night Baseball presented by Hankook Tire as the Braves and Cardinals face off in the second game of a three-game cross-conference.  At this time, Michael Wacha (3-0) is the only pitcher formally announced for the game. 

Wacha is scheduled to start for St. Louis in that game.  His last time on the mound was Thursday against the Cardinals NL foes, the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The Cardinals routed the Pirates 17-4 in that game, with Wacha taking the win. 

Wacha allowed four runs, one walk, one home run and four earned runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings in the game. He also struck out two batters.

The starting pitcher for the Braves was not noted at the time of this release.

Coverage of Wednesday’s game is scheduled to start at 7:20 p.m. Jon Sciambi and David Ross will have the call for the game.

ESPN Presents MLB Double-Header In Today’s WNB Broadcast

ESPN has a very special edition of its Wednesday Night Baseball presented by Hankook Tire today.

Today on the network’s weekly Wednesday night MLB broadcast, ESPN will carry not one but two games in a special double-header schedule.  First up on the day is the closer between the Mets and Cubs in their three-game series.  Coverage is expected to begin at 2pm ET.  The second game on the schedule will see the Red Sox host the Giants in the closer of their two-game series beginning at 7pm ET.

ESPN’s coverage of the Mets-Cubs series is the second game this week that the network has carried. It also carried coverage of the second game in the teams’ series Tuesday night. That game saw the Mets tie up the series at one game a piece.  So the series’ winner will be determined tonight live on ESPN.  Kyle Hendricks (8 – 6) is slated to get the start tonight for the Cubs.  Meanwhile Bartolo Colon (8 – 4) will get the start for the Mets.  Hendricks’ last time on the mound was July 15^th against the Rangers.  The Cubs won that game 6 – 0 with Hendricks being credited with the win.  He kept the Rangers bats silent over six innings, allowing only 3 hits and 2 walks.  He didn’t allow any runs, earned runs, or even home runs, and had 3 strike outs.

Colon’s last time on the mound was July 15^th against Philadelphia.   He led the Mets to a 5 – 3 win over the Phillies in that game, pitching a total of 5.2 innings.  Even with the win he still had a little bit of a rough time, allowing all three of the Phillies’ runs on 4 hits.  He also allowed 2 walks and had 4 strike outs.  The rest of the Mets bullpen picked up the slack with only team-mate Hansel Robles allowing a hit throughout the remainder of the game.  He and the rest of the Mets’ bullpen kept the Phillies’ bats silent throughout the rest of the game.  By comparison Philadelphia’s Jeremy Hellickson had an even more difficult go of it in the game, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits over 6 innings.  He allowed 4 earned runs and 2 home runs along the way, too and had 5 strike outs.

Going by the numbers the Cubs still have the advantage in the series.  But coming off of last night’s win the Mets have some momentum and motivation for another win.  At the same time, the Cubs will be playing hard, too as they will look to keep from losing two straight.  So today’s game gives audiences and teams plenty to anticipate.  Karl Ravech will once again have the call for this afternoon’s series finale between the Mets and Cubs.  He will be joined in the booth by analyst Dallas Braden and reporter Tim Kurkjian.  The game will be blacked out in both the New York and Chicago market.

 

 

In the second game of the day, the Red Sox and Giants finish off their two-game series tonight at 7pm on ESPN.  Drew Pomeranz (8 – 7) will get the start for Boston in tonight’s game.  Matt Cain (1 – 5) will take the mound for San Francisco.  Cain hasn’t pitched for the Giants in more than a month.  The 31 year-old’s last time taking the mound for the Giants was way back on June 13^th.  He pitched 3.2 innings in the game, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits over that span.  He walked 5, allowed 3 earned runs, and had 3 strike outs.

Only a few weeks have passed since Pomeranz last started.  That was back on July 7^th before he was traded from the Padres to the Red Sox.  He threw 7 innings in that game, and kept the Dodgers’ bats largely silent over that time allowing only 2 hits and picking up 6 strike outs along the way.  That lowered his ERA to 2.47.

Looking at the bigger picture for tonight’s game on ESPN, the numbers favor Boston for the win.  The Red Sox are 31 – 20 at home so far this season and defeated the Giants in the first game of the teams’ series last night, blanking the Giants 4 – 0.  The Giants meanwhile are in the midst of a 4-game skid and are 5 – 5 in their last ten games versus Boston’s 8 – 2 record in their last ten games.  Coverage of tonight’s game between the Red Sox and Giants begins at 7pm ET on ESPN. The game will be blacked out in the San Francisco market.  John Sciambi will have the call for tonight’s game.  He will be joined in the booth by Doug Glanville and Pedro Gomez for additional commentary.  Following the game, Adnan Virk and John Kruk will have a full re-cap of the game and all of the action around the league on Baseball Tonight.  That will be at 10pm.

Orioles Look To Stay Perfect Tonight Against Boston On ESPN’s WNB

The Baltimore Orioles are off to a hot start in the 2016 MLB regular season.  The team currently sits at a perfect 7 – 0 so far on the season, leaving the team the only undefeated team so far on the season.  It also means that the team currently sits atop the league standings.  Tonight the “Orange Birds” look to keep their success going when they wrap up a three-game series against the Boston Red Sox.  The game will be carried live tonight on ESPN’s Wednesday Night Baseball presented by Hankook Tire.

The Orioles and Red Sox face off tonight on ESPN in the last of a three-game series.  The game Joe Kelly is expected to get the start for the BoSox in tonight’s game.  It will be Kelly’s second start of the season.  His first start of the season was on April 8^th.  And it was a rather inauspicious start for the right hander.  He pitched three whole innings before being pulled in the fourth, having allowed 7 hits, 7 runs, 7 earned runs, and 3 walks, and striking out only four of the twenty batters that he faced over that time.  A base-clearing grand slam by Josh Donaldson in the fourth ended Kelly’s night.  Ubaldo Jimenez is expected to get the start for Baltimore in tonight’s game.  His last time on the mound was April 7^th against Minnesota.  He was credited with the win in the game having allowed only 2 runs on 8 hits, and striking out nine of twenty-eight batters over seven innings.  He allowed only 1 earned run in that time, too.

Broadcast of tonight’s game is scheduled to begin at 7pm ET.  It will be live on ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes+.  Jon Sciambi will be in the booth for tonight’s game.  He will be joined by Rick Sutcliffe and Doug Glanville for additional commentary.  Before the first pitch is thrown, Karl Ravech, John Kruk, Eduardo Perez, and Tim Kurkjian will have a preview of the game on ESPN’s Baseball Tonight on ESPN2 beginning at 6:30pm ET.  Anyone that won’t be near a TV for tonight’s game can still catch the game online on WatchESPN.  More information on tonight’s game and all of ESPN’s scheduled games is available online along with all of the latest MLB headlines at:

ESPN Adds NL, AL Matchups To Its MNB, WNB Broadcast Schedule

ESPN has added two more games to its Major League Baseball broadcast schedule.

On Monday, April 18^th, the Cubs and Cardinals will face off live on ESPN’s Monday Night Baseball presented by USAA.  The game is the series-opener in a three-game set between the NL Central opponents.  The game will also mark the midway point of what will be a six-game home stand for the team.   No announcement has been made at this time in regards to starting lineups or pitching rotations for either team in the game.  The other three games in that run will see the Cardinals host another NL Central opponent, the Cincinnati Reds.  Currently the Reds sit second in the division just behind the Cubs.  Dave Flemming will be in the booth for the game.  He will be joined by analysts Curt Schilling and Eduardo Perez for additional commentary.

Also added to the network’s MLB coverage, the defending MLB champion Kansas City Royals will host the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday, April 20^th on ESPN’s Wednesday Night Baseball presented by Hankook Tires.  Currently the Royals sit fourth in the AL Central, one game back from the division-leading Tigers.  The White Sox and Indians currently sit in second and third respectively in the division.  The game will be the second in a three-game set between those two teams.  Coverage is expected to begin at 7pm ET on ESPN.  Jon Sciambi will be in the booth for the game.  Analysts Rick Sutcliffe and Eduardo Perez will also be on hand for additional commentary.  As an additional note, this game will be a full national telecast.

Both the NL Central matchup on the 18^th and the AL Central game set for the 20^th will be simulcast on television on ESPN Deportes and online via WatchESPN.  More information on both of these games is available online along with all of the latest MLB headlines at:
