Marty Friedman debuted his latest music video this week.

The veteran guitarist debuted the video for this song ‘Meathook’ this week via Billboard.  The video mixes footage of Friedman and his fellow musicians—including Shining (NOR) front man Jorgen Munkeby—performing live with various snippets of vintage butchers carving p large chunks of meat, car crashes, and other footage that is sure to leave audiences talking.  Audiences will also note behind the band in its live footage the logo of metal band Arch Enemy.  That is because the footage was recorded during his most recent tour with Arch Enemy.

‘Meathook’ comes from Friedman’s latest solo recording Inferno.  Friedman has spent the past two years touring in support of Inferno.  That time on the road included tours with Gus G., Arch Enemy, and Kreator.  His recent live schedule also marked the first time in more than twelve years that he has performed live in the United States.

On Sunday, August 14th, Friedman will wrap his global tour with an orchestra performance at the Famed Hollywood Bowl with veteran flamenco duo Gabriela, who also appeared on another of Inferno’s songs ‘Wicked Pancea.’  Friedman was upbeat when he discussed the upcoming performance.  “I’m so excited to play the Hollywood Bowl, and even more excited to do it with my friends Rodrigo y Gabriela AND a full orchestra!,” he said.  “They did a great collaboration with me on my Inferno record and we’ve met several times in Japan talking about how to make this Hollywood Bowl show a once in a lifetime kind of ultra special show.  Can not wait.”

Following his performance at the Hollywood Bowl Friedman will return to Japan to perform a full live set at SummerSonic, the country’s largest music festival.

Beck01 isn’t just another music memoir.  Rather it traces Beck’s music and cars—more specifically hot rods—and will feature some 400+ rare and previously unseen photographs and items of memorabilia.  The whole thing is narrated by a nearly 20,000 word manuscript.  The limited edition book will also be signed by Beck himself.  It can be ordered online via Genesis Publications’ online store.

Both Beck’s new album and book will be supported by a handful of live performances beginning Tuesday, July 19th in Port Chester, New York.  Fellow guitar legend Buddy Guy will join Beck on a number of those dates.  The tour also includes a special performance on Wednesday, August 10th at the Hollywood Bowl to celebrate Beck’s now five decades-long career.  The first leg of the tour is a run of dates in the northeast and runs through July 26th in Holmdel, NJ.  On July 27th and 29th Beck will be in Vienna, VA and Canandaigua, NY respectively before playing a pair of dates in the Midwest to close out July.  He will open August with a performance in Nashville, TN on Wednesday, August 3rd.  A new group of tour dates was announced this week.  It includes performances in the Midwest and west coast.  The complete tour schedule, including newly announced dates, is available via Beck’s official website and Facebook page.  Tickets go on sale Friday, April 8th for all dates EXCEPT Kansas City (available Saturday, April 16th), Seattle, WA (available Friday, April 22nd), and Saratoga, CA (Available TBA).

New Doors Blu-ray A Beautifully Re-Mastered Performance

Courtesy: Eagle Rock Entertainment/Eagle Vision

The year is winding down once more.  The weather is getting cooler.  And that means that the concert tours that are currently going on have gone indoors.  So what is a person to do until the warm weather and the annual Summer tour season returns?  How about another new release from Eagle Rock Entertainment?  In its latest release, Eagle Rock Entertainment has released one more iconic concert from what was, is, and always will be one of rock’s most iconic bands.  That band is The Doors.

The Doors: Live at The Bowl ’68 is one of the most important performances from the storied career of this psychedelic band.  As audiences will note in the bonus featurette included in this new release, “Echoes From The Bowl”, this famed concert venue started out as a place for whole families to go.  It started out not as a venue for mainstream music, but for classical and other forms of performances.  But it goes on to note that as music tastes changed, so did the Bowl’s performance lineups.  And one of those changes was in the form of Jim Morrison and company.  Probably no one would have seen that one coming, including the band itself.  Even the remaining band members note in this feature that they themselves were in awe of being at the famed Hollywood Bowl.  But as audiences will see in watching this re-mastered performance, the band was a massive hit as the entire venue was packed with fans.  And those fans showed their appreciation for the band’s performance, too.  The audience’s reaction to the band’s performance translates quite well for home audiences.

The audience’s reaction to the band’s performance translates very well to home viewers.  The reaction aside, the band’s performance itself also translates quite well to home viewers.  Part of the reason that the performance and the audience’s reaction to it translated so well was perhaps the re-mastering of this performance.  Those who have HDTV’s and Blu-ray players will be amazed at the clarity of the picture and the sound.  Considering that this performance was originally recorded in 1968, it’s amazing simply to think that the footage stood the test of time so well.  Add in how it was…well…masterfully re-mastered (ba-dump-bump-bump), and audiences get a recording that will leave them in awe.  It’s one more piece of evidence in the argument for getting an HDTV and/or Blu-ray player this holiday season.  For those that already have either one or both, then this new Blu-ray release will make an excellent gift idea for the classic rock fan in anybody’s home.
