Through Fire Releases New Album’s Third Single; Announces New Live Dates

Courtesy: Sumerian Records

Rock band Through Fire gave audiences another preview of its new album this week with the premiere of the album’s latest single.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Devolution‘ Tuesday. The song is the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, Devil’s Got You Dreamin’, which is scheduled for release April 21. The record has also produced the singles, ‘Lose It‘ and ‘Karma Kills.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Devolution’ is similar to that of ‘Lose It’ what with its melodic hard rock approach. Yet again, the sound and stylistic approach taken here is easily comparable to works from the likes of Awake At Last, Three Days Grace and others of that ilk.

The song’s lyrical theme presents a familiar social commentary about the state of the world and how mankind is handling everything that has happened and is happening. The band addressed this in a prepared statement.

“Devolve, destruct, in God we trust… so many things in the world seem to be going in reverse,” the statement reads. “One step forward and two steps back. This song is about keeping our eyes open to everything going on around us.”

In other news, Through Fire has expanded its tour plans for the spring and summer. On top of already announced dates with Saliva, the band was recently announced as support for Ill Nino’s spring headlining tour in celebration of its classic album, Confession. Tickets are available here.

The tour is scheduled to launch May 4 in Jacksonville, NC and to run through June 4 in Tyler, TX. The tour’s few east coast dates open its run between May 4 May 10.

Redefind Debuts New EP’s Lead Single, Video

Courtesy: O’Donnell Media Group

Independent nu-metal act Redefind premiered its latest single and video this week.

The band debuted its new single, ‘This Is Fine‘ and the song’s companion video Friday. The song is featured in the band’s forthcoming EP, Audio Video Disco, which is scheduled for release April 21 through Godsize Records.

The song’s musical arrangement is immediately a nu-metal style composition, complete with the crunching down-tuned guitars and rapping. The song immediately lends itself to comparison to works from the likes of Hollywood Undead, Limp Bizkit, and (hed) p.e.

According to a statement from the band, the song’s lyrical theme is a commentary about the all too familiar topic of mental health.

“‘This Is Fine’ is a song for people who mask their emotions,” the statement reads. “A lot of us say we’re fine when we’re not; dying on the inside and smiling on the outside.”

The video for ‘This is Fine’ is its own familiar style presentation. It features the band in a studio setting dressed to look like a stage setting. The presentation is meant to mimic what the band looks and sounds like in a live setting.

Swim The Current Premieres New Single, ‘We Are Not The Same,’ Companion Video

Courtesy: Cowgirlzen Entertainment

Independent hard rock band Swim The Current has joined forces with Ill Nino front man Marcos Leal for its latest single and video.

The band, which is currently composed of Disciples of Verity bassist George Pond, Chris Moore (Ultraphonix) on drums and Joe Gareri on guitar, premiered its new single, ‘We Are Not The Same‘ and its video Friday. Greg Antine is the band’s original founder and guitarist.

The band was joined by Ill Nino front man Marcos Leal for the new heavy single whose musical arrangement immediately lends itself to comparison to vintage works from Ill Nino. It is a work that will appeal to fans of those early works from Ill Nino and to nu metal fans and metal fans alike, what with its screaming vocals, heavy crunching vocals and melodic choruses.

According to Leal, the song’s lyrical content was borne of a personal experience.

I’m incredibly honored to be a part of this amazing track with such incredible musicians. We’re not the same was written as an Angry Anthem, as a way to help me cope with the demons and frustration of my fathers’ cancer diagnosis,” Leal said. “It helped me channel a lot of the anger and aggression within me into something much more productive I am very proud of this song and want to extend thanks to George, Joe, and the rest of the members of Swim The Current For allowing me to be a part of such a masterpiece!”

Pond expanded on Leal’s comments.

“The volume of voice measures the value that the mind puts upon the thought! How we think and feel are direct reflections of our surroundings. You are a product of your environment.”

The video for Swim The Current’s new single puts the band in a studio setting with a variety of video effects thrown in to add to the presentation’s impact. Leal meanwhile records his vocals in a separate setting as the band performs its new single as the song plays over the whole.

In other news, Ill Nino debuted its latest single, ‘This Is Over,’ and its companion video Thursday. The song features the band’s original guitarist Marc Rizzo. The song’s musical arrangement will appeal to fans of the songs that the original Ill Nino lineup crafted during the band’s early years. That is evidenced through the more melodic approach and the use of the Afro-Latin percussion alongside the heavier screams in the song’s choruses.

“It is great to be back in this new version of Ill Nino,” Rizzo said. “The new music and new vocals are the best I’ve ever heard since the beginning of this band, and I’m proud to be a part of it! Fans are definitely getting their concert ticket’s worth with this his new lineup!!”

Front man Marcos Leal talked about the song’s lyrical theme in his own comments.

“‘This Is Over’ conveys a message of taking control of the outside negativity that can consume your everyday life,” Leal said. “From the darkest forms of harassment and violations of privacy from others, to the worst self doubts and anxiety within ourselves. We all fall victim to this in one way or another, but the anger and aggression you hear in these lyrics and music is my own form of therapy, my own way of taking charge and my own way of saying enough is enough, ‘This Is Over’! I urge you to take control and face the negativity in your life, and find your own way of therapy.”

The video for ‘This Is Over’ features the band in what is meant to reflect a live setting. It blends that with Leal playing someone who has been captured by unknown assailants. The visual is meant to illustrate the theme about which Leal talked.

Lions At The Gate Premieres New Single, Video

Courtesy: Cosa Nostra PR

Hard rock super group Lions at the Gate debuted its latest single and video this week.

The band The band, which is composed of former members of Ill Nino, Machine Head, Westfield Massacre and Silence The Messenger, premiered its new single, ‘Find My Way‘ and its video Tuesday. The song features a guest appearance by Jinjer vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk.

The premiere of ‘Find My Way’ and its video comes more than a month after the band premiered its then latest single, ‘Bed Of Nails.’ The band premiered that single March 2.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Find My Way’ opens with a piano line that listeners who are well versed in classical music will recognize before launching into a full on Slipknot-esque aural assault. The intensity of that moment and the rest of the song’s verses is in direct contrast to the gentility of the song’s choruses, making for plenty of engagement and entertainment. The noted classical piano line bookends the arrangement, closing it out, too, making the song complete.

Front man Christian Machado talked about the song’s musical arrangement in a prepared statement, which also included a discussion on Schmayluk’s inclusion in the track.

“With ‘Find My Way’, we tried to break all the formulaic rules on this one,” the statement reads. Pushed the boundaries, took it to extremes. In the end, we realized how rewarding it was fitting intensely contrasting musical elements into one track. And it is a killer heavy track that also offers a beautifully haunting melody. From the onset it seemed perfect for Tatiana’s voice, the fact that she wound up on the track is mind-blowing. Her voice is absolutely stunning and it is a huge honor having her on.”

Machado said the song’s lyrical theme is a reference to his own mental health concerns.

“Lyrically the song walks the line between fear, surrender, and the will to overcome,” he said. “At the time of writing the album, I felt pinned by so many things gone wrong in my life. I remember I just held on to hope and faith long enough till I found a place of safe surrender. A place where I could slowly lift the weight off, finally be untethered.”

The video for ‘Find My Way’ is a familiar style presentation. It features the band performing its new single in a specially designed sound stage, complete with pyro. Shmayluk joins the band in the presentation.

Lions at the Gate released two other singles last year in the form of ‘Scapegoat‘ and its video, and ‘Not Even Human‘ and its companion video.

Ill Nino Debuts ‘All or Nothing’ Video; Summer Tour Dates Scheduled

Ill Nino debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band premiered the video for its new single, ‘All or Nothing’ Wednesday through Loudwire. The song, which tackles the topic of immigration, features a guest appearance by P.O.D. front man Sonny Sandoval and comes approximately five months after the band premiered the video for its then latest single, ‘Mascara,’ which also premiered through Loudwire.

Both songs are expected for inclusion in Ill Nino’s forthcoming album IllMortals, which is scheduled for release later this year through Break Silence Music. The album’s release date is under consideration.

Front man Marcos Leal address the lyrical theme of ‘All or Nothing’ and working with Sandoval in a prepared statement.

“‘All or Nothing’ was written as a challenge to myself. I knew the moment I joined Ill Nino, I would face negativity, scrutiny and possibly ridicule,” said Leal. “It caused me to question myself, and even question if I was good enough to embrace this opportunity. I challenged myself as I’m challenging all of you, what would you do if the opportunity of a lifetime was within your grasp? I chose to go ‘All or Nothing.’”

Added Leal, “I wanna thank one of my heroes, Sonny Sandoval of P.O.D. for lending his freshness to this track and being a constant inspiration.”

Sandoval, shared Leal’s positive thoughts as he talked about working with Ill Nino on the song and video.

“Like P.O.D., ILL NIÑO have always incorporated their culture, roots and heritage into their music and sound, which have set them apart in this metal scene for over two decades,” said Sandoval. “It was my honor and privilege to have contributed to this record. After knowing them for 20 years now, I don’t know why we didn’t do this sooner.”

The video for ‘All or Nothing’ features Ill Nino and Sandoval performing the band’s new single in what is meant to resemble an alleyway in an urban setting, what with the graffiti on the wall behind the band. That imagery pairs with visuals of an Hispanic woman praying, a factory, and information about the role of immigrants in America perhaps equating Leal’s comments about taking a major chance in life to what Immigrants do every day.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘All or Nothing’ takes listeners back to Ill Nino’s infancy, with its sharp guitars, driving vocals and heavy bass. It sounds like it would fit well in the band’s 2001 debut album, Revolution, Revolucion.

‘All or Nothing’ will be available to stream and download by itself beginning May 14.

Ill Nino Debuts ‘Mascara’ Video; Announces New Lineup

Courtesy: Adrenaline PR

“New” is the word of the day for nu-metal band Ill Nino.

The band is back with a new single and lineup. The band debuted the video for its new single ‘Mascara’ Thursday through Loudwire. The single will be available to stream and download Friday.

The video for ‘Mascara’, directed by Hunter Chapman, tells a story that is comparable to something right out of a gangster flick. A man is being interrogated by a really big, scary looking guy who is accusing him of doing something he didn’t do. The interrogation involves a certain amount of torture, so viewer discretion is advised.

The musical arrangement featured in the song presents a sound and stylistic approach that will appeal to fans of Slipknot and Chimera. Its lyrical content, which is featured in Loudwire‘s article, hints that the song centers on the familiar message of someone dealing with people who are not all that they appear.

Front man Marcos Leal discussed the song — which features a guest appearance from Fire From The Gods member AJ Channer — in a prepared statement.

“I’m very stoked to introduce ‘Máscara’ as a great addition to the Ill Nino legacy, and a highlight of my vocal career,” said Leal. “I’m honored to have collaborated with our very good friend and one of my favorite vocalists in the game, AJ Channer, of Fire From The Gods. As someone who’s grown up as a fan of Ill Nino, and as a musician inspired by the band, I take pride and honor in crafting the vocals for the next generation. It’s something fans new and old will appreciate, and I look forward to throwing some chingasos in the pit with our Niño Familia in 2021!”

Ill Nino’s current lineup consists of Leal (vocals), original members Laz Pina (bass) and Dave Chavarri (drums), returning percussionist Daniel Couto, and guitarists Jes DeHoyos (Sons of Texas) and Sal Dominguez (ex-Upon A Burning Body).
