Independent singer-songwriter Keegan Calmes debuted his latest single last week.

Calmes debuted his new single ‘Birthday‘ Thursday.  The song features a musical arrangement that will appeal to any pop music fan and Top 40 pop radio programmer.

Calmes had the following to say of the song’s musical arrangement:

“It all came together pretty quickly,” he said. “I had a guitar lick and started laying down some drums on Cubase when it just came together. Typically I’ll write an entire song on guitar with vocals and then try to transfer it over and add production but this one seemed to happen a bit backwards. It’s the first song where I’ve done this much production myself so I felt really happy how it turned out with Tim Wolf putting the finishing touches on it with me!”

The song’s lyrical content is a unique commentary about the mental health effects of the forced isolation brought on as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Calmes talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a recent interview.

“This is my “happy lonely birthday anthem” for everyone right now,” he said. “Today, in the age of Facetime and Zoom calls, we’re all feeling a little more isolated on our Birthdays. Some of the things that make us feel human are now feeling synthesized and far away. This song is my way of saying to everyone we’re all going to feel that extra bit of ‘lonely’ on our birthdays. So drop someone a call, a facetime, a text. We’re all feeling that loneliness together.”

Independent singer-songwriter Keegan Calmes premiered his latest single this week.

Calmes debuted his new single ‘Broken Heart‘ Friday.  The song, from the ex Vinyl Theatre singer, features a gentle, piano-driven arrangement that will appeal to fans of acts, such as John Mayer, Peter Cincotti and Ben Folds.

The song’s lyrical theme is centered on the familiar topic of a broken relationship, according to a statement from Calmes in a recent interview.

“‘Broken Heart’ is a culmination of a year of soul searching; Trying to pinpoint who I am and what is most important to me intrinsically,” he said.  “This is that ‘aha’ moment for me in trying to both define my sound and work through past emotions. It’s a song about loving someone after your love as ‘one’ has expired. And in that lingering love, you decide to always wish them the best. And when you see them again, to smile with love although your love together will never be again.”

Calmes co-wrote ‘Broken Heart’ with Steven Pitzl and Timothy Wolf.  The song was produced by Four Giants.
