Time is officially ticking away to the end of the year, so as the countdown moves closer to the year’s final moments, those annual year-ender lists are starting to show up.  Keeping that in mind, Phil’s Picks has its own year-enders.  As is the case in year’s past, this year’s series of lists starts with the smallest releases, the year’s top new EPs.  Topping this year’s list of new EPs is none other than Nine Inch Nails’ new EP, Add Violence.  This five-song record takes all the best elements of Trent Reznor’s work from With Teeth all the way up to his most recent Nine Inch Nails record, Hesitation Marks both musically and lyrically.

Also included in this year’s list of the year’s top new EPs are independent releases from Paul Johnson & The About Last Nights, Chapel, Light The Way and others.  The list, as in years past, includes the year’s Top 10 new EPs as well as five additional honorable mention titles, for a total of 15 records.  With all of that having been noted, the following is Phil’s Picks 2017 Top 10 New EPs.

Lane Change Reveals ‘Floodwater’ Video

Lane Change is giving audiences another taste of its new EP.

The Phoenix, AZ-based band unveiled the video for the song ‘Floodwater’ today, which is lifted from the band’s new four-song EP Rise. The video mixes footage of the band performing its new song with a cinematic story that bassist and co-vocalist Lizzie Shafer hoped would present a positive message to each listener with each interpretation.

“Even to the four of us in Lane Change, ‘Floodwater’ means something different each time we play it,” Shafer said. “We really wanted to write a song that reflected everything we saw going on in the world, but didn’t want to tell the listener how to feel.  In the concept for the video, we set out to capture the energy and message of the song visually to compliment the sonic element.  We really wanted the ending to leave the viewer feeling a positive emotion no matter what the song and video meant for them.  We tried to focus on the live performance aspect while adding in a minimal, but yet emotional story line.  We couldn’t be more excited with the way it all came together!”

Audiences can view the band’s new video online now here. It is just the latest song from Rise to get the video treatment.  The band unveiled the video for ‘Club 27’ on January 20, 2017.  It can be viewed online now here.
