Everlast Announces Release Date, Specs For New Album; Debuts Album’s Lead Single

Courtesy: Martyr-Inc

Veteran rapper Everlast is scheduled to release his latest solo album in September, and in anticipation of its release, he debuted the album’s lead single this week.

Everlast Presents Whitey Fords House of Pain is scheduled to be released September 7 via Martyr-Inc.  The 15-song record’s lead single, ‘The Culling,’ made its debut on Wednesday.  The song boasts an old-school hip-hop beat against a clearly sociopolitically charged theme, as Everlast noted in a recent interview.in which he called it one of his “chain-of-thought songs like ‘Black Jesus.'”  He said it addresses “lying politicians” while also sending a waning message about the threats to Americans’ freedoms.

Also included in the album is deeply contemplative ‘One Of Us,’ which focuses on his thoughts of God’s existence as it relates to his daughter’s real life battle against cystic fibrosis.  The equally introspective ‘The Climb’ is a more personal discussion on that subject while the Beatles-meets Tom Waits-meets Neil Young style song ‘Summer Rain’ tackles the consequences of drug use.  ‘Dream State’ takes on the music industry itself with all of its back room dealings and back-handed behavior.

For all of the depth that this record offers listeners, it also offers some more light-hearted fair in the ironic ‘Smokin’ & Drinkin.’  The song is ironic considering all the addressing of drugs that is done in this album.  Hop-hop star Aloe Blacc guests on the pessimistic social commentary of ‘Slow Your Roll,’ as something else to anticipate.
