Pop punk band Good Charlotte returned this week with its latest single and a video to boot.
The band premiered its new single ‘Last December‘ Thursday along with the song’s companion video. The song features an arrangement that will appeal to the band’s established fan base while its lyrical content will reach farther in its appeal.
Singer/guitarist Benji Madden talked about the song’s lyrical them in a prepared statement.
“2020 being the 20th anniversary of our self titled debut album, really made us feel like we wanted to release something for those fans who’ve gone on this journey with us,” said Madden. “The holidays can be a rough time of year. Thinking of the ones we’ve lost and longing for moments that have passed us by, is definitely a part of the joy and melancholy. This song for us speaks to both sides of those holiday feelings and we hope it brings some solace to anyone who needs it.”
The video that accompanies the band’s new single takes viewers throughout an unidentified region of America that has been hit by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. From shuttered store fronts and businesses having gone out of business, to signs advertising COVID-19 testing, to an empty school, the imagery hits home what has happened as a result of the pandemic. It reflects, again, the theme in the song’s lyrics, looking back on the better times.
