Roadkiller Debuts ‘Slicker Than Oil’ Video

Independent rock band Roadkiller debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The act, which is the brainchild of Phillipa Tank, premiered the video for its new single, ‘Slicker Than Oil’ Monday through Metal Injection. The song is the second single from Roadkiller’s forthcoming record, Pick of the Litter. Its release date and other information is under consideration.

Tank, who is known as a member of the Motorhead tribute band, Motorbabe, said the single features a guest appearance by drummer Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, Melt Banana, Discordance Axis). In addition, she said Witte is just one of the well-known drummers who will appear on the record.

Witte said he enjoyed working with Tank on the new song and video.

“Phillipa Tank’s Roadkiller songs are rocking and full of energy,” she said. “It was really fun to play the tune and film a cool video to boot! Also to be included among a really great group of drummers playing on the record is equally as exciting.”

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Slicker Than Oil’ immediately shows Tank’s Motorhead leanings with its bluesy punk/metal hybrid sound. At the same time, the guitar solos present more of a vintage thrash metal style approach. The duality in that combination makes the overall arrangement an engaging and entertaining composition.

The press release announcing the song and video’s debut did not provide information about the song’s lyrical theme. No lyrics were provided with the video, either. The lyrics are difficult to decipher without a reference point, but from what little can be understood sans lyrics, the song’s lyrical content comes across as a sort of defiant statement.

The video for ‘Slicker Than Oil’ is a relatively simple presentation. It features Witte and Tank performing their new new single on an island that has a defunct rail bridge. Drone footage is edited into the video as part of its overall presentation. The colorful graffiti on the bridge’s posts and the bright, blue sky add to the impact of the video’s general effect, too.

The band announced the schedule for its 2022 European tour Tuesday. The tour is scheduled to launch Sept. 27 in Birmingham, UK and to run through Nov. 5 in Zurich, Switzerland. Municipal Waste will serve as support for the tour.

Metal Alliance Tour headliners Anthrax had a couple very special guests last night at the tour’s sold out stop in Hollywood, CA.  The tour made a stop at the Hollywood, CA House of Blues last night.  Much to the surprise of audiences in attendance, Anthrax was joined on stage during its set by none other than Public Enemy front man Chuck D. and guitarist Slash.  Slash joined the band on-stage for its performance of AC/DC’s hit, ‘T.N.T.’ Slash covered lead guitar duties for this performance.  Later in the night’s performance, Chuck D. surprised everyone when he came on stage and performed ‘Bring The Noise’ with the band.  The band originally recorded this song with Public Enemy in 1991.

The Phil’s Picks blog and Facebook Page is hosting two brand new giveaways during the week of March 18th – 22nd.  The first half of the week will see giveaways of 20th Century Fox’s award winning movie, Life of Pi.  The adaptation of the book by Yann Martel is available now on Blu-ray/DVD/Vudu combo pack.  Next Monday – Wednesday, I’ll be giving away one copy each day on the Phil’s Picks Facebook page at  But I’m not just going to do any drawing.  Those of you who have already “Liked” my FB page have to recruit more people to “Like” it in order to win.  It will start Monday, March 18th.   Here’s how it’ll go down.  The first person to get just five (5) people to “Like” my page each day will win that day’s copy of “Life of Pi” on Blu-ray/DVD/Vudu.  The people that you get to “Like” my page have to post to my timeline noting that you got them to “Like” my page.  That way I can count each person’s recruits under your name.  Make sense?  Let me know if it doesn’t and I’ll try to explain it in simpler terms.  I’ll announce the winner of each copy each afternoon at 4pm.  Again, that’s the first person Monday – Wednesday to get 5 people to “Like” my page.  And it doesn’t start until Monday.  So that means that you need to get out there and spread the word about the Phil’s Picks FB page if you really want to win!  I’m going to run the contest for these copies of “Hitchcock” the same way the following week

And if you’re not one of the people to enter or win, you can pick up your copy in store or online now.  It can be ordered online at

Holy Grail Releases 2013’s First Great Metal Record

Courtesy: Prosthetic Records

Courtesy: Prosthetic Records

It is official.  The California based quintet that is Holy Grail has released in its second full length album, the very first great metal album of 2013.  The band’s new album bridges the divide of old school metal along the lines of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest with more recent bands the likes of Fozzy,  Avenged Sevenfold, and of course itself.  This album has elements of power metal, death metal, and old school speed metal without losing a single step along the way.  The album starts off with that old school style in the semi-instrumental, ‘Archeus.’  This leads without hesitation instantly into the equally impressive old school style sound of ‘Bestia Triumphans.’  The dual guitar attack of Eli Santana and Alex Lee mixed with the absolutely powerhouse vocals of singer James-Paul Luna make this song a welcome re-introduction for fans who came on board with the band’s 2010 debut, Crisis in Utopia, and an equally impressive first time introduction for fans who are new to the band’s work.  Luna’s vocals are just as brutal as the song hits its final moments and he launches into traditionally guttural growling.

The band barely lets up—if at all—after the album’s first full introduction on this album as it proceeds into the album’s next song, ‘Dark Passenger.’  This song, too leans more in the old school speed metal style.  Both Santana and Lee are expert at their craft alongside drummer Tyler Meahl and bassist Blake Mount.  Meal and Mount work seamlessly together adding a solid backing to the song.  Meal’s chops are some of the best of any modern metal drummer out there today as he shows not just in this song, but throughout the course of the album’s thirteen tracks as does the rest of the band.  That’s especially evident in songs the likes of ‘Too Decayed to Wait’, ‘Great Artifice’ and the equally solid closer that is ‘Rains of Sorrow’ just to name a few more.  To go through every song on this album would take far too long and would be far too wordy.  Needless to say that whether for its old school shots or its more modern material, this album has something for every member of the metal nation regardless of age.  It is simply put a great way for any true metal purist to start the New Year.  It’s available now in stores and online.  It can be ordered online direct via the Prosthetic Records online store at

Fans can also check out the band live as it tours in support of its new album across the country.  The band will be in Miami, Florida this Friday.  Fans in North Carolina will also get their chance to see the band when it makes a stop at Charlotte’s Tremont Music Hall along with Exodus, Anthrax, and Municipal Waste.  That tour stop is part of the Metal Alliance Tour.  To get a full rundown of the band’s tour dates and all of the latest news from the band, fans can go online to, http://www.holygrailofficial,, and
