Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Punk rock band Chief State premiered its latest single and video this week.

The band debuted its new single, ‘22 Reasons‘ and its video Wednesday. The song is the fourth single from the band’s forthcoming album, Waiting For Your Colours, which is scheduled for release July 1 through Mutant League Records. Pre-orders and pre-saves are open.

The album has also produced the singles, ‘Out For Me,‘ ‘Burning Out‘ and ‘Team Wiped‘ along with their respective videos.

The musical arrangement featured in Chief State’s new single blends elements of pop punk and pop rock for a song that will appeal to a wide yet targeted audience group. It is easily comparable in its sound and style to works from the likes of so many pop punk bands out there.

Front man Fraser Simpson talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“The lyrics are an honest introspection into a breakup I went through, how my perspective had changed from being with someone so closely to then being on the outside looking in,” Simpson said. “That was the hardest at first, knowing someone for so long to then only being able to see their light from a distance. Looking back I can see it was an essential part of my own growth, the hardship of that time led me to question what I was doing with my life. I had been just waiting for my colours to come through.”

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the debut of the new single and its video. The lyrics presented with the song’s video hint at the theme centering on a person battling depression and negative thoughts and feelings in general.

The video that accompanies the song hints even more at that theme as it presents a man who at the song’s beginning is sad and depressed. With The Punches Signs New Record Deal; Debuts New EP’s Lead Single, Video

Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Punk act With The Punches recently signed a new record deal with independent record label Mutant League Records, and with it will come a new EP next month, titled Discontent.

In anticipation of the record’s release, the band premiered the EP’s lead single, ‘Stoneham Blues‘ and its video Friday. The song’s musical arrangement is full-on skate punk as is evidenced in its guitar line and its intense drumming and melodic vocals.

The song’s lyrical theme is a deeply contemplative work, according to front man Jesse Vadala.

“This song is loosely written about a few close friends who passed away,” Vadala said. “I struggled like many do in processing death, especially those lost to addiction. We always wish for ways to protect the ones we love. When they leave abruptly, it can shatter so many lives. Some days we feel lost. Other days we shine a bit brighter from the light of our memories. There were several sharp moments like this in the last few years. Now when I give it time, I feel so proud and thankful for all of the beautiful memories, they tend to outweigh the bad.”

The video for ‘Stoneham Blues’ is a DIY type presentation. It is composed of various home movies of men doing various tricks on skateboard in a variety of settings. The man get some of the tricks immediately while in other cases, they keep working to get other tricks.

The track listing for Discontent is noted below.

Track Listing:

1. Stoneham Blues

2. Discontent

3. Mirage

4. Almost Everything

Chief State Gets Contemplative In New Single, Video

Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Punk rock band Chief State premiered its latest single this week.

The band debuted its new single, ‘Burning Out‘ and its companion video Tuesday. The song is the second single from the band’s forthcoming album, Waiting For Your Colours, which is scheduled for release July 1 through Mutant League Records. Pre-orders and pre-saves are open. The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Team Wiped‘ and its video last month.

The musical arrangement is a composition that surf and skate punk fans alike will appreciate what with the vocal harmonies in the half screamed-half sung vocals and the rich bass line and drums against the layered guitars. The collective is comparable to works from so many bands of its ilk.

Front man Fraser Simpson talked at length about the song’s deeply contemplative lyrical theme.

“I’ve been very introspective over the past year,” Simpson said. “I’ve asked myself a lot of questions about where I am and what I’m doing with my life. This song came about when I didn’t like the answers I was able to give myself. Approaching 30 with no real direction, no one really teaches you how you should live your life. It seems all we know is to compare ourselves with others and their achievements and comparing myself with others I felt disappointed and disheartened.”

Simpson continued, “Words flew out onto the page and resonated with me in those moments. I wrote the lines “I’m finding out that it’s only getting harder. I find it tough ‘cos my body’s getting older, I thought by now there’d be something I’d be proud of” and the rest of the song just developed from there. I’m trying to be positive with my mindset these days. I try to take the time to appreciate what I do have and not focus on what I don’t.”

He concluded, “I think most of us search for some kind of meaning, some affirmation that we’re doing ok. Really we just need to enjoy the ride, appreciate the small joys we win and strive for more of those happy feelings whatever they might be for each of us.”

Chief State Announces New Album Details; Debuts Album’s Lead Single

Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Punk rock outfit Chief State is scheduled to release its latest album this summer.

Waiting For Your Colours is scheduled for release July 1 through Mutant League Records. In anticipation of its release, the band premiered the record’s lead single, ‘Team Wiped‘ and its video Thursday.

The musical arrangement featured in the song immediately lends itself to comparison to works from the likes of Sum 41, New Found Glory, and All Time Low. That is evidenced through its familiar poppy guitar riffs and vocal harmonies.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announce the premiere of the song and its video. The lyrics provided with the video hint at the theme centering on the familiar matter of a relationship that is in a very difficult position.

The song’s video features the band performing its new single on a sound stage and blends that with footage of front man Fraser Simpson carrying a deck chair around a city and singing along to the track.

Chief State’s new single follows the debut of the band’s then latest single, ‘Metaphors‘ and its companion lyric video in December.

Chief State Tackles Mental Health Concerns In New Single

Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Independent rock band Chief State is hoping to release its new album in the new year.

While audiences wait for the record, the band is providing a way to tide fans over. It comes in the form of the band’s new single, ‘Metaphors‘ and its companion lyric video. The band debuted the pair Thursday.

The song’s lyric video is relatively straightforward in its presentation. It features a person curled up, knees brought to his/her face, as the song’s lyrics are presented next to him/her. Meanwhile the song plays over the simple visualization.

The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new standalone song will appeal to any pop punk fan. That is evidenced clearly through the collective instrumentation and vocals presented in the song. The collective presentation is comparable to works from so many pop punk acts.

The lyrical theme featured in the band’s new single takes on the topic of the difficulty that people generally have in talking about their mental health. It is well known that people generally do not talk about the topic because of the stigma that is still attached to the matter, so for the band to go this route, lyrically is deserving of praise.

Guitarist Nik Pang talked about the noted theme in a prepared statement.

“‘Metaphors’ is about being in a really dark place, but not knowing how to communicate that to your loved ones,” he said. “Instead of saying what you mean, and exactly how you feel, it’s easy to gloss over it and be super generic and vague.”

Settle Your Scores Debuts New Single, ‘Meant For Misery,’ Companion Video

Courtesy: Mutant League Records
Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Pop punk band Settle Your Scores debuted its latest single and video this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Meant For Misery‘ and its companion video Thursday. The song is the second single from the band’s forthcoming album, Retrofit, which is scheduled for release Aug. 20 though Mutant League Records. The band premiered the album’s lead single, ‘1999‘ and its video last month.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Meant For Misery’ is, as with ‘1999,’ another pop punk composition that takes listeners back to the pop punk sounds that became so popular during the 90s. It is easily comparable to works from bands, such as Sum 41, Blink-182, and All Time Low.

No information regarding the song’s lyrical theme was presented in the news release announcing the premiere of the band’s new single. A close listen to the soong reveals what sounds like the angsty feelings of so much music from the 90s, too.

The video that accompanies the band’s new song features two boxers in a ring. The smaller of the pair does everything that he can to defeat the larger boxer, but utlimately ends up on the mat, singing that “maybe I was just made for misery.” That would seem to echo the angsty vibe of the song’s lyrical theme.

Settle Your Scores Debuts New Single, ‘1999,’ Companion Video

Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Pop punk band Settle Your Scores debuted its latest single and video this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘1999,’ and its companion video Tuesday. The song is the lead single from the band’s forthcoming, as-yet-untitled album. The song’s musical arrangement immediately lends itself to works from the likes of Sum 41, Good Charlotte, and All Time Low while its lyrical theme clearly delivers a fond reminiscing of days gone by.

The video features the band — Christian Fisher (vocals), Ricky Uhlenbrock (guitar, vocals), Patrick Bryant (guitar), Jeffrey Borer (bass, vocals), and Caleb Smith (drums, percussion) — performing its new single in an apartment setting. One scene feature the band in a rehearsal space in the setting that is lined with posters featuring pop culture icons from the 90s. Among those icons are Blink-182, Nickelodeon’s classic Nicktoons cartoon characters, and everyone’s favorite fearsome deadman, Beetlejuice.

The other scene features Fisher (sporting an All That t-shirt) and one of his band mates enjoying huge bowls of sugary cereal as the warm remembrance of better days plays over the visuals.

‘1999’ is Settle Your Scores’ first single with the independent record label Mutant League Records. The band recently signed a record deal with the label. Specifics of the deal were not announced.

Rest Easy Debuts New Single, ‘Get Busy Dyin”

Courtesy: Mutant League Records

Independent punk rock band Rest Easy is giving audiences their first preview of its forthcoming 7″.

The band debuted the lyric video for its new single ‘Get Busy Dyin‘ Friday. The song is the lead single from the band’s forthcoming record Sick Day EP, which is scheduled for release Feb. 12 through Mutant League Records. The four-song record was recorded by Tim Creviston (Miery Signals) and mixed/mastered by Paul miner at Buzzbomb Studios in Orange, CA. Other well-known acts, such as Death By Stereo and Thrice have also recorded at the studio.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Get Busy Dyin’ is an intense composition. Clocking in at barely more than one minute (one minute, 21 seconds to be exact), the song is grounded in its solid time keeping while the intense guitar riffs, bass, and screaming vocals build around it to make the song even more fiery.

The lyrical content featured alongside the song’s musical arrangement comes across as delivering a message about someone who has “had it up to here” and then some with the world and with people. That would explain the intensity in the song’s musical arrangement.

Sick Day EP will release in a limited quantity of 500 vinyls. Approximately 200 of the available copies will release on a clear with blue smoke pressing. The 300 remaining copies will release on a solid tangerine pressing.

The EP’s track listing is noted below. Pre-orders and pre-saves are open now.

Tracklist:

1. Get Busy Dyin’

2. Headaches

3. Bad Idea

4. Sick Day

The video for ‘Wrong One’ features the band in what looks like a live club setting as it performs its new single. The use of the lighting adds its own unique touch to the visualization.

The musical arrangement that is featured in the band’s new single is an emo-pop style composition that will appeal to fans of bands, such as Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, and My Chemical Romance. That is made clear through the combination of the vocal delivery style and the instrumentation.

The lyrical content that accompanies the song’s musical arrangement will reach listeners in its own right.
