As I Lay Dying is back…sort of.

Almost a year after the band’s former front man Tim Lambesis was released from prison for a conviction in a murder-for-hire plot in which he allegedly tried to have his wife killed, two of the band’s albums are getting the vinyl re-issue treatment.

Metal Blade Records announced Thursday that the band’s 2003 record Frail Words Collapse and its followup, 2005’s Shadows Are Security will be re-issued on vinyl Jan. 26.  Pre-orders for both albums are open now, and both will be available in limited quantities.

The specs for each album’s re-issue are noted below.

–yellow/brown opaque split vinyl (limited to 1000 copies – USA exclusive)
–butter cream marble vinyl (limited to 500 copies – USA exclusive)
–orange/brown with black swirls vinyl (limited to 300 copies – USA exclusive)
–golden vinyl (limited to 300 copies – EU exclusive)

Lambesis allegedly started working recently on new music for a new As I Lay Dying record with a new group of musicians according to various media reports. AILD ex-guitarist Nick Hipa did not entirely write-off a reunion in a recent interview on Hatebreed front man Jamey Jasta’s radio program The Jasta Show, but did not say a reunion of the original lineup definitely would happen, either.

Honor Is Dead was recorded by each of the band’s members in separate different locations across the country–including California, Alabama, and Texas—instead of coming together in one studio together.  Guitarist Nick Hipa said recording the record in this fashion wasn’t easy but it ended up working for the band in the end.

“Recording separately across multiple states at different times with a mixing engineer bouncing between multiple countries made things very tricky,” Hipa said. “Luckily we’ve all made records before an everything ended up working out.”

Wovenwar Begins Work On Sophomore Album

Wovenwar will return.  And according to the band’s members, its return will come this year.

Officials with Metal Blade Records announced this week that Wovenwar has entered the studio to begin working on material for its sophomore album.  The band offered the following update on tis

“Recording for the second Wovenwar album is officially underway with the drum tracking being completed and the process moving into the guitar tracking phase.  Several months-worth of demos have been condensed into eleven new songs we are very proud of.  The process found us expanding upon our melodic sound with a darker and more aggressive approach – utilizing elements restrained on our debut but familiar to our cumulative history.  Nolly Getgood (Periphery) is onboard to handle mixing duties. We look forward to hearing how his versatile talents elevate our sound and direction.  We’re looking to have the recording process wrapped up in the next couple months and hope to have the album out sometime late summer/early fall.  Until then please keep up with us on all band socials for updates.”

The band originally features members of the now defunct metalcore band As I Lay Dying, which was also signed to Metal Blade Records.  The band released six albums in its time together, five of which were originally released via Metal Blade Records.  It also released a twelve-song compilation record titled Decas via Metal Blade in 2011.  The band eventually disbanded after frontman Tim Lambesis’ 2013 arrest on charges of plotting to have his wife murdered.  The band’s remaining members—Nick Hipa (guitar), Phil Sgrosso (guitar), Josh Gilbert (bass), and Jordan Mancino (drums) joined forces with Oh, Sleeper front man Shane Blay to form Wovenwar.  The band’s self-titled 2014 debut hit #36 on Billboard’s Top 200 New Albums Chart.  Audiences can preview the album now and even order it online via Wovenwar’s official Metal Blade Records page.  More information on Wovenwar is available online now along with all of the latest updates on the band’s new album, its latest news, and more at:

AILD’s New LP Will Re-Awaken Every Metal Head

Courtesy: Metal Blade Records

San Diego, California’s As I Lay Dying has returned with what is some of the band’s best work since its debut album, “Frail Words Collapse” with its new album, “Awakened.”  The band’s fifth full length studio release of new material combines elements of that album with elements of its previous releases to make an album that any metal head happy.  The album’s opener, ‘Cauterize’ is a powerful opener.  Front man Tim Lambesis sings in this piece, “I’m caught between the feeling/Of being pulled apart/And being stuffed into a cell” in the song’s chorus.  That’s something to which so many listeners can relate.  He’s saying in a metaphorical sense, he feels so much pressure that he doesn’t entirely know what he’s feeling.  But it’s definitely not a good feeling.  Who out there hasn’t felt that way at one point or another?

The album’s second track, ‘A Greater Foundation’ could almost be compared to a hybrid mix of Killswitch Engage and Hatebreed with the combination of Lambesis’ vocals and the buzz saw sharp guitar riffs churned out by Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso.  Drummer Jordan Mancino is just as solid behind the kit with this song, not missing a single beat throughout.  There’s even a touch of old school style metal here too, for fans of the older stuff in ‘Resilience.’  This piece starts out very much in the old school metal style before kicking things into high gear.  Fans of AILD’s old sound will enjoy the sound of ‘No Lungs to Breathe.’  This is the sound that made the band so famous on its debut record.  What’s noticeable here though, is that while it boasts that sound from the band’s early days, long time fans will be able to tell how much the band has grown since then, too.  There’s even more of that sound on ‘Defender.’  The song actually boasts singing along with Lambesis’ sharp as nails screams.  The only time the band lets up throughout all of this is in the softer instrumental that is ‘Washed Away.’  This song is just enough of a break for listeners to collect themselves before one more full out aural assault.  By the time it’s all said and done, audiences will be left breathless by the band’s chops.

“Awakened” hits stores tomorrow.  The band is currently promoting the record.  It will be at a signing engagement tonight at the Looney Tunes CD store in West Babylon, New York.  And tomorrow, the band will be at Vintage Vinyl Records in Fords, New Jersey for another in-store signing.  Fans can get the information on these events online at http://www.facebook.com/asilaydying and http://www.asilaydying.com
