Queens Of The Stone Age Premieres New Album’s Second Single, Lyric Video

Courtesy: Matador Records

Queens of the Stone Age is giving audiences another preview of its new album, In Times New Roman.

The band premiered the album’s new single, ‘Carnavoyeur‘ and its lyric video Wednesday. The song’s arrangement is a stark contrast to that of the album’s lead single, ‘Emotion Sickness,‘ which the band premiered early this month. Where that song is a lively, upbeat familiar style stoner/fuzz work from the band, the group’s new single is more contemplative in its mid-tempo approach. There is something about the song — perhaps the guitars, or the keyboard line or maybe even both — that make the song comparable in its sound and style to works from the likes of Depeche Mode. It really is an interesting departure of style for the band but fully engaging and entertaining because of that surprising approach.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the news release announcing the premiere of the new single and video. The lyrics provided in the video hint at a message of perseverance, of not giving up in life. That is just this critic’s interpretation.

Speaking of the song’s lyric video, it features the song’s lyrics mixed into a decidedly psychedelic background as the song plays over the unique visualization.

Both of the singles premiered so far from Queens of the Stone Age are featured in the band’s forth coming album, In Times New Roman, which is scheduled for release June 16 through Matador Records.

Queens Of The Stone Age Announces New Album Details; Premieres Album’s Lead Single

Courtesy: Matador Records

Queens of the Stone Age is set to release its latest album this summer.

In Times New Roman is scheduled for release June 16 through Matador Records. In anticipation of the record’s release, the band debuted the lyric video for the album’s lead single, ‘Emotion Sickness‘ Friday.

The video places the song’s lyrics over a variety of random images, such as robotic figures dancing, people dressed as mice and witches, and a person in a mask inside a person’s head as the decidedly stoner rock composition plays over the visualization. The whole is a very psychedelic presentation.

While the band’s familiar stoner rock leanings are present once again throughout the four-and-a-half-minute song, the song also boasts something of a classic rock influence throughout the song, too. That balance of old and new makes the song quite surprisingly engaging and entertaining.

Information provided in a news release announcing the debut of the album’s new single states that the song’s theme is directly connected with its title, stating, “The past few years have been tough on everyone, and it’s no secret the members of QOTSA have endured their share of heartbreak and loss. But who amongst us hasn’t dealt with a recent bout (or two) of emotion sickness?”

Voltagehawk Releases New Album; Debuts Album’s Latest Single, Video

Courtesy: INgrooves/The Label Group

Independent rock band Voltagehawk released its debut album, Electric Thunder, this month.

The band released the album Jan. 21 through The Label Group/INgrooves. In celebration of the record’s release, the band premiered the video for the record’s latest single, ‘The Cosmic Hangman.’ The video features the band in what looks like a unique recording studio setting, complete with lights and mirrors that make it look like a club.

The song’s musical arrangement is a driving, up-tempo composition. Its combination of stoner and neo-classic rock influences makes it unique in its own right. Comparisons can be made just as much to works from the likes of Clutch and Queens of the Stone Age as to South of Eden throughout the song. The balance in that duality ensures audiences’ engagement and entertainment.

Front man Dan Fenton talked about the commentary in the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“On 10/17/17 I was dead. I had drank myself into oblivion,” he said. “Years of depression, abuse, and confusion as a child had finally caught up with me. As I lay unconscious, I was at perfect peace; no pain, no ringing in my ears, just floating for 9 minutes as the paramedics brought me back. I heard a voice inside my mind ask if I wanted to stay in the cosmic womb or if I would stop drinking. Those were my only options. I chose to give up the bottle, accept help for the first time in my life, and enter a treatment program. It changed everything.

“My moment of peace in the cosmic womb let me know that there was something after this life, but not what they had taught me as a child. The reception of my new found life was mixed. As I went on a journey of amends, I was embraced by some and rejected by others. I was told that without religion I couldn’t possibly have changed. They were wrong, I had changed.”

Added Fenton, “The rule of the papacy has long cast judgment on those seeking change outside the constructs of religion or faith. This song is an anthem for the undamned, unfallen, and unredeemed. Rebirth is not a battle between heaven and hell, but a battle between mind and body.”

‘The Cosmic Hangman’ is just one of the singles produced from Voltagehawk’s new album. The record has also produced the single, ‘Recrimination.‘

Post Profit Debuts New Album’s Latest single, Video; Announces New Live Dates

Courtesy: Tulip Lane Records/MVK Music Group

Independent rock band Post Profit is scheduled to release its new album next month.

The band is scheduled to release its new album, When You Think It’s Right It’s Always Wrong Feb. 25 through Tulip Lane Records and MVK Music Group. In anticipation of the album’s release, the band debuted its latest single this week along with the song’s companion video.

Post Profit debuted its new single, ‘We’re All Monsters‘ and its video Wednesday. The song is the fifth single from the album behind ‘Haunt Me,’ ‘When You Think It’s Right,’ ‘Better Off‘ and ‘Same Sad Song.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘We’re All Monsters’ is a clear contrast to the album’s other singles. Where the other singles are dark, brooding compositions, this song is a more upbeat work. It presents a familiar garage/stoner style approach and sound that is easily comparable to works from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age.

The song’s lyrical theme is just as accessible as its musical arrangement. The band talked about that theme in a prepared statement.

This song was written about a universal concept: that we as humans are not perfect,” the statement reads. “We make mistakes, and we hurt each other. Most of us have a closet full of skeletons, so to speak. When something bad happens to us, we often look for somewhere to place the blame. For most of us, that’s much easier than accepting our faults.”

“This song begs one question of humanity – how can we be better people?,” the statement continues. “In a world where it seems everyone is only out for themselves, sometimes it’s difficult to see where humility and civility should fit in. We want people to understand that it’s okay to accept your faults, make changes, and not let your faults define you.”

The video for ‘We’re All Monsters’ is an artistic presentation. It features the band performing in a studio setting. Special video effects are used to give the video a unique touch to heighten the viewing experience.

In other news, Post Profit has announced a new series of live dates that is scheduled to launch Jan. 30 in Dallas, TX. The statewide tour is scheduled to run through April 30 in Austin, TX and features one out of state date — Feb. 18 — in Lafayette, LA.

BRKN LOVE Debuts New Single, ‘Dead Weight,’ Companion Video

Courtesy: Atom Splitter PR

Independent rock band BRKN LOVE premiered its latest single and video this month.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Dead Weight‘ and the song’s video Nov. 11.  It comes more than five months after the band premiered its take on Post Malone’s single, ‘Allergic.’

The musical arrangement featured in BRKN LOVE’s new single presents a decidedly garage/stoner rock style approach and sound.  It is comparable to songs from the likes of Jet, Royal Blood, and Queens of the Stone Age.

Songwriter Justin Benlolo said of the song’s lyrical theme that it centers on the matter of people’s mental health.

“In a sense, the song is really about the dangers of your own mind and the places that it goes when you least expect it,” he said.  “Sometimes it feels good to lean into the darkness and know that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.  That being said, we’vebeen dying to get this out and show the world what the next step of BRKN LOVE sounds like!”

The video for ‘Dead Weight’ finds the band performing its new single in an abandoned house.  The contrast of the bright light coming into the house against the darkness inside the house is meant to help illustrate and translate the message that Benlolo discussed.

Feral Vices Debuts New EP’s Lead Single, Companion Video

Courtesy: Earshot Media

Independent rock band Feral Vices is giving audiences the first preview of its new record.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Mass Produce Your Revolution‘ and its video Thursday. The song and video are the first from the duo’s forthcoming EP, With Offerings. The EP is scheduled for release Dec. 3.

The musical arrangement featured in the song is a catchy, mid-tempo composition. The fuzz from the guitar and the thickness of the drums pairs with the vocals all work together to make the song comparable to works from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, and Jet.

The lyrical theme featured alongside the song’s musical arrangement is a sociopolitical statement that will resonate with audiences. That is thanks to its delivery and to the musical arrangement, which itself will keep listeners engaged and entertained.

Guitarist/vocalist Alexander Hoagland talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“The song is about how we give these massive platforms to people who really don’t actually know all that much of what they’re talking about,” said Hoagland. “It’s buzzwords in a nice package so we just consume it. The second part of the song is about how these ultra-rich business people or specifically celebrities are throwing their pocket change into something just for the press and getting even more money out of it than they put in and it all becomes this vicious cycle that we all participate in.”

The song’s video is a relatively simple artistic presentation. It features Hoagland and band mate, drummer Justin Cottner, in a studio setting, shot in black and white. various mix effects are used to show the duo performing together and in boxes that are presented throughout the video.

Hoagland talked about the video in the noted statement.

“The goal of the video was to really invoke the feeling of the rock and hardcore videos of the early 2000’s that were super influential for us and the director, James Wightman,” said Hoagland. “We wanted something that matched the frantic energy of the song and also had a visual aesthetic that was as eye catching as the song was sonically.”
