Whitechapel Debuts ‘Anticure’ Video

Courtesy: Metal Blade Records

Whitechapel debuted the video for its latest single this week.

The band premiered the video for its single, ‘Anticure’ Thursday. The song is the third single from the band’s latest album, Kin. The band premiered the album’s second single, ‘A Bloodsoaked Symphony‘ in September. It was preceded by the premiere of the album’s lead single, ‘Lost Boy,’ in August.

Whitechapel’s video for ‘Anticure’ is a “live” presentation of the song. The dim lighting and general setup is meant to reflect the band’s onstage presence.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Anticure’ is a stark contrast to so much of Whitechapel’s works. It continues to show the band’s creative evolution with its deeply contemplative verses and much heavier choruses. The choruses boast the band’s familiar gritty approach to its work. Meanwhile, the more brooding verses present something of a sound akin to works from the likes of Dry Kill Logic, Tool, and other similar acts.

As with the other songs featured in Kin, ‘Anticure’ continues the theme of front man Phil Bozeman dealing with thoughts and feelings connected to family struggles.

The track listing for Kin is noted below.

Kin track-listing
1. I Will Find You
2. Lost Boy
3. A Bloodsoaked Symphony
4. Anticure
5. The Ones That Made Us
6. History Is Silent
7. To the Wolves
8. Orphan
9. Without You
10. Without Us

Veteran guitarist Marty Friedman will appear on VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show this weekend.

Friedman will appear on That Metal Show Saturday, March 1st at 11pm ET.  Friedman will join Mike Jones (Foreigner), Leslie West (Mountain), and Lita Ford (The Runaways) on this week’s edition of That Metal Show.  Friedman jokingly noted in an interview that while the main purpose of his appearance was to promote his upcoming album Inferno, he also even more excited about being on the show because he got to talk to one of his own favorite guitarists of all time.  “Of course I talked about my upcoming album, ‘Inferno,’” he said.  “But there was another guitarist on the show, and I just had to ask him what I wanted to know ever since I was a kid — just what the hell was he thinking when he laid down one of the most unorthodox (and cool) solos ever. Hope they don`t edit that part out!” Tune in tomorrow night to find out!”

Inferno is scheduled to be released via Prosthetic Records May 27th in North America and May 26th in the UK and Europe, May 23rd in G/A/S and via Universal Records in Japan May 21st.  It will be his first record of original material in four years and the first in over ten years that will be released simultaneously around the world.  The album was recorded in Los Angeles with engineer Chris Rakestraw (Danzig, Children of Bodom) and mixed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Amon Amarth).  It will also include a number of A-list guest appearances from the likes of: Rodrigo y Gabriela, Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), Keshav Dhar (Skyharbor), and David Davidson (Revocation) among others.  The album’s track listing is included below.

Friedman’s First Album In Over A Decade Coming In Early 2014

Veteran guitarist Marty Friedman (Megadeth, Cacophony) has announced that his latest full length solo record in early 2014.  No specific release date has been set as of yet.  However, it has been confirmed that Friedman is hoping to have his new album out by Spring.  It will be his first record comprised entirely of new material in four years.  It will also be his first full length record in over ten years.  According to Friedman himself, the album, titled Inferno, will be his heaviest record yet.  “I’m extremely proud of the work I’ve done with Cacophony and Megadeth, but I was never interested in stopping there,” he said.  “‘Inferno’ is the album that fans of my work with those two bands have always wanted me to make.  I’ve finally made it, and completely on my own maniacal terms.”  He added in an interview with Guitar World magazine that Inferno is “the most intense writing and playing I can do.”  He went on to say of it that “I wanted to create a new landmark to which my future music will be compared.  “That idea of just going completely balls-out — knowing what the full potential of my music and my playing could possibly be, and actually making it a reality — was what drove me through the whole process.”

Friedman’s fans will have plenty to look forward to on Inferno.  That is because the record will feature Friedman teaming up with a number of other well-known guitarists including Alexi Laiho (Children of Bodom), David Davidson (Revocation), and famed flamenco/metal acoustic duo Rodrigo y Gabriela.  Friedman’s former Cacophony band mate Jason Becker also played a role in the creation of Inferno as the pair collaborated on some songwriting.  Friedman said of his team-ups with the noted special guests, “On the guests’ songs, each would write a song from scratch, and then I would arrange it and add my parts to it.”  He added “That way, we were both invested in it, and it’s a little bit of a deeper experience than just banging out a guest solo.”

The official release date for Inferno has not yet been released.  While fans wait on that information, they can check out a trailer for the album now online at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO8dP0pPpjQ.  A tour in support of the new album is anticipated.  Fans can find out the latest tour dates as they are announced online at http://www.facebook.com/martyfriedman.official and http://www.martyfriedman.com.  To keep up with the latest sports and entertainment news and reviews, go online to http://www.facebook.com/philspicks and “Like” it.  Fans can always keep up with the latest sports and entertainment news and reviews in the Phil’s Picks blog at https://philspicks.wordpress.com.
