Jerry Cantrell Debuts New Album’s Title Track, Video

Courtesy: e2 PR

Jerry Cantrell is giving audiences another preview of his new album.

Cantrell premiered the title track from his forthcoming album, Brighten, and its video Friday through Heavy Consequence. The song and its video are the second from the album. Cantrell premiered the album’s lead single, ‘Atone’ and its companion video July 20 through Rolling Stone magazine.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Brighten’ is interesting in that it takes Cantrell’s years of influence from his time with Alice in Chains into consideration but giving them a lighter, more upbeat sound and stylistic approach.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme in the press release announcing the debut of the new single and video.

Speaking of the video, it was directed by Gilbert Trejo, son of famed actor Danny Trejo. It intersperses footage of Cantrell and his band mates performing in a concert hall with a man who is eating flowers and getting high as a result. According to information provided in the noted press release, the visualization is a loose take on the fabled “Lotus Eaters” from Homer’s Odyssey.

Cantrell debuted Brighten‘s lead single, ‘Atone,’ and its companion video July 20 through Rolling Stone magazine.

Cantrell said in a prepared statement, the song’s arrangement, which features clear AIC influence along with an equally clear southern rock sensibility, that there was direct influence in the song from a more well-known composer in the track’s creation.

“As a fan of Ennio Morricone scores and Sergio Leone movies, it’s got a bit of that outlaw vibe, with a cool psycho hillbilly stomp” he said. “It’s been kicking around in my head for like 20-plus years, haunting me. Sometimes it takes a while for a good idea to find its best form. Such was the case with Atone.”

No information is provided in the press release regarding the debut of Cantrell’s new single. In listening to the song through, it comes across as a statement from someone wanting to make right what was once wrong. It is that classic theme of battling personal demons for all intents and purposes.

The video for ‘Atone’ follows Cantrell’s noted respect for Sergio Leone movies. It finds him out in an arid, mountainous setting. The black and white video has the look of something one might expect from one of Leone’s old spaghetti westerns.

Delta Rae Work With Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham On Song; Premiere Video For New Single

Courtesy: Warner Brothers Records

Durham, NC’s own Delta Rae has kept busy ever since releasing its debut record, Carry the Fire last year on Warner Brothers Records.  The band recently teamed up with Fleetwood Mac’s very own Lindsey Buckingham on the band’s re-recorded version of its new single, ‘If I Loved You.’

The video for the re-recorded song was released exclusively via RollingStone.com yesterday.  Audiences should note that while Buckingham had a hand in the new take on the song, he wasn’t in the video.  Regardless, fans can check it out now at http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/delta-rae-pair-with-fleetwood-macs-lindsey-buckingham-in-if-i-loved-you-premiere-20130326.  Singer Elizabeth Hopkins takes vocal duties on the song.  She discussed the song in the band’s interview with Rolling Stone.  “This video captures what I love most about the song,” she said.  “It’s simple and raw.  Telling someone point blank that you don’t love them is difficult and painful.  I’ve done it.  It feels horrible, but there is also a release that comes along with it, a lifting of weight.  I think this video lets you focus on the rawness of that message.”

Fellow band member Ian Holljes commented on the excitement of playing with Buckingham, whose band is the favorite band of the members of Delta Rae.  “I can’t really accurately express how wild it was for us to learn that Lindsey Buckingham had played on ‘If I Loved You,” he said.  “I grew up on stories of how my parents (along with every other kid on campus) would blast the entirety of Rumours out of their college dorm room windows.  Fleetwood Mac and Lindsey Buckingham’s writing have been so influential to us so to have his talents and incredibly distinctive guitar playing laid over one of our tracks felt like the world sort of folding over on itself.  Ultimately it was rewarding on two huge levels – the thrill of having one of your heroes play on your song and the actual impact of his beautiful guitar work enhancing the song so meaningfully.”

The band’s album is available in stores and online now.  It can be ordered direct online from iTunes at http://bit.ly/Zp5laF.  The band is currently touring in support of its debut release.  It will be in New Orleans on April 11th at Howlin’ Wolf.  It’s just one of many dates currently scheduled that will take the band through this summer.  Among the band’s current dates is a handful of dates in North Carolina between April 26th and May 4th.  For a full list of tour dates and to get all the latest news from the band fans can “Like” the band on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/deltarae.  Fans can also get the latest news from the band and a free 11-track live album on the band’s official website, http://deltarae.com.

Chickenfoot Debuts New Live Video, Re-Issues Debut LP

Fans of the rock super group Chickenfoot have two reasons to celebrate today.  The band re-issued its self-titled debut record this week, and it debuted a new live video.  The newly re-issued album now includes a second disc with a handful of performances from the band’s “Different Devil” tour this past Spring.  The tracks included on the bonus disc are:  ‘Lighten Up’, ‘Big Foot’, ‘Last Temptation’, and ‘Something Going Wrong.’  Speaking of ‘Something Going Wrong’, the band has debuted a live video for a performance of the song online at Rolling Stone magazine’s website.

Front man Sammy Hagar shares his thoughts on the song in the accompanying article, explaining how Joe’s (Satriani) music gave him a different vibe than the band’s other songs, thus the visual imagery tied in with the shots of the band’s time together so far.  It makes for an interesting watch.  Fans can check out the video now at http://www.rollingstone.com/music/videos/chickenfoot-get-retrospective-in-something-going-wrong-premiere-20121018

Dream Theater Takes Top Honors In Rolling Stone Poll

Dream Theater has earned a high honor from rollingstone.com.  The band’s 1999 album, “Metropolis Part 2:  Scenes From A Memory” has taken home the top prize for the readers’ poll on readers’ favorite Prog Rock Albums Of All Time.

“Metropolis Part 2:  Scenes From A Memory” was the band’s fifth full length studio release.  It was the long fabled follow-up to the band’s song, ‘Metropolis Part 1:  The Miracle and The Sleeper’, which was on the band’s breakthrough 1992 LP, “Images & Words.”

This honor follows up the band’s dual 2011 honors from rollingstone.com.  The band earned the #2 spot on the website’s “Top 10 Metal Bands of All Time” poll and #10 spot on its “Best Prog Rock Bands of All Time” poll.  Both the band and rollingstone.com staff reacted to this year’s honor.  “All of us in Dream Theater are so grateful to our fans for their incredible support in voting our album Metropolis PT. 2 Scenes From A Memory as the number 1 album in Rolling Stone’s poll for ‘Your Favorite Prog Rock Albums of All Time,’” said the members of Dream Theater.

Staff from rollingstone.com responded to the huge number of votes for Dream Theater, saying, “If we had kept in all the Dream Theater albums, Images and Words would be number two, and Awake, Octavarium and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence would also be listed here. Lumping them all into this top spot was the only way to handle the flood of Dream Theater votes.”  The band’s fans can read even more on its win by clicking this link or pasting it into their browser:  http://www.rollingstone.com/music/pictures/readers-poll-your-favorite-prog-rock-albums-of-all-time-20120725/1-dream-theater-metropolis-pt-2-scenes-from-a-memory-0257304#ixzz21ktIiOga.

Dream Theater just finished up the Summer North American leg of its tour in support of its latest album, “A Dramatic Turn of Events.”  The band will head down to South America next for the last leg of its world tour.  That tour will start Wednesday, August 8th.  A full slate of upcoming dates can be found at http://www.dreamtheater.net/tourdates.  And fans can get even more news from the band online at http://www.dreamtheater.net, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Dream-Theater/7677942180, http://twitter.com/DreamTheaterNet, and http://www.myspace.com/dreamtheater.
