Mercy Music Announces New Album Details; Debuts Album’s Lead Single, Video

Mercy Music announced Friday, it is scheduled to release its latest album this summer.

What You Stand To Lose, the band’s fourth album, is scheduled for release June 30 through Double Helix Records and SBAM Records. In anticipation of the record’s release, the band debuted the album’s lead single, ‘Love You/Need You‘ and the song’s companion video Friday.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Love You/Need You’ is a catchy pop punk style composition that is certain to keep listeners engaged and entertained throughout its roughly three-and-a-half-minute run. The guitar solo in the song’s bridge is the arrangement’s highlight. It is a pure rock and roll style solo that puts a great accent to the overall presentation.

According to front man Brendan Scholz, the song’s lyrical theme focuses on the all too familiar topic of a broken relationship.

“This song is about coming to terms with the fact that the person you’re in love with is no longer in love with you,” Scholz said.

Bassist Jarred Cooper expanded on Scholz’s comment, saying the lyrical theme here illustrates the thoughts and feelings people go through in that moment of a relationship’s end.

“There is all of the physical and mental pain that comes with [heartbreak], along with trying to handle it all and using it to try and grow to be better,” Cooper said. “The lyrics in the chorus were a way of narrowing down things said to me throughout the situation.”

The video for Mercy Music’s new single is meant to accompany that theme and emotion in the song’s lyrics and arrangement. It features Scholz and drummer Rye Martin performing the band’s new single in the living room of a random house as a group of movers remove boxes, Martin’s drum set, and even Cooper’s bass as the song progresses. That story is complimented by the primary story of a man who has obviously become separated from his romantic interest. The whole is a presentation that is certain to keep audiences engaged and entertained throughout its run.

The track listing for What You Stand To Lose is noted below.

1. Suddenly
2. Love You/Need You
3. REAL
4. Believe in We
5. Undone

Courtesy: SBAM Records

Punk rock band Jughead’s Revenge is set to release its EP, Vultures, this year through SBAM Records.

No information was provided about the song’s lyrical theme, though in listening to the song, the lyrical theme seems to be a tribute to someone the band new. That is just this critic’s interpretation.

Since coming out of the skate punk scene in California in the late 80s, Jughead’s Revenge has released four albums, one independently and the other three through Nitro Records. The band’s forthcoming record will be its debut EP.

Punk rock band The Von Tramps will join The Dollyrots on the road this week.

The tour, dubbed “The Hey Girl 2023 Tour,” is scheduled to launch March 9 in Chicago, IL and to run through March 19 in Detroit, MI. Band member Jenna Enemy discussed the record’s concept in a prepared statement.

GO is all about momentum”, Enemy said. “Coming out of the pandemic, all we could think about was how far we could go, when we could go. By being forced into a break from our everyday lives we were also forced to reflect on it; and ultimately found the mundane can trap your soul, if you’re not careful. We hope ‘GO’ inspires future listeners to break through these pressures in order to find a more honest version of life lived fully and creatively.”

Courtesy: SBAM Records

Veteran punk rock band Pulley is keeping itself busy this year.

The band announced Friday, it is scheduled to release its latest album (its sixth), Golden Life, next month. In anticipation of the record’s release, the band premiered the album’s lead single and its companion lyric video Thursday. The album is scheduled for release May 13 through SBAM Records.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Golden Life’ is an infectious guitar-driven punk composition. The subtle vocal harmonies alongside the catchy guitar riffs, solid time keeping and low end from the bass line makes the song fully engaging and entertaining.

Frontman Scott Radinsky talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“Golden life; Observing a generation of kids who have seemingly been robbed of an experience,” he said. “Life without ease of access to good, and/or bad. Much of what they have seen in the world has been negative, unimaginable terrorist acts, war and violence, a division of people. In regards to music, our generation really had to earn it if we wanted to get a proper listen or visual. Technology, although having its good aspects, has removed an experience that offered a deeper appreciation of life.”

The lyric video for ‘Golden Life’ is a simple presentation. It features the song’s lyrics over images, such as a $5 bill, Donald Trump blindfolded, and silhouettes of people over stock market figures.

The Venomous Pinks Addresses Addiction In New Single, Video

Courtesy: SBAM Records

Punk band The Venomous Pinks gave audiences another preview of its new album this week.

The band debuted its new single, ‘Apothecary Ailment‘ and its companion video Thursday. The song and its video are the latest from the band’s forthcoming album, Vita Mors, which is scheduled for release June 3 through SBAM Records. The band debuted the record’s debut single, ‘No Rules‘ and its video last month.

The Venomous Pinks’ debut album is preceded by its EP, I Want You, which was released in 2020. The record produced the single, ‘I Really Don’t Care‘.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Apothecary Ailment’ is another straight forward, guitar-driven surf/skate punk style composition from the band. It will appeal easily to fans of the likes of Pennywise, Counterpunch, and Chaser what with that familiar sound and style.

Singer/guitarist Drea Doll talked about the song’s lyrical theme in a prepared statement.

“‘Apothecary Ailment’ is a track about how consuming the cycle of addiction can be,” Doll said. “I witnessed someone close to me struggle with severe addiction. It was a matter of life or death. The lyrics are a plea for them to choose life. I’ve had my own personal battles over the years, and facing one’s demons is never easy.

The video for the band’s new single finds the band out in the desert, performing its new single as the sun sets.

Doll talked about the presentation in her statement.

“For the video, we escape to the beautiful landscape near the lost Dutchman park in Apache Junction, AZ. Since this is our first album, it was important for us to show the world our roots and where we grew up.”

Punk band The Venomous Pinks debuted its new single and video this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘No Rules‘ and its video Thursday. The song is featured in the band’s forthcoming debut album, Vita Mors, which is scheduled for release June 3 through SBAM Records.

The musical arrangement featured in the band’s new single is a catchy three minute-plus composition. The vocal harmonies and the instrumentation makes the song a work that will appeal to any punk rock purist.

The song’s lyrical theme centers on the all too familiar topic of a broken relationship, according to singer/guitarist Drea Doll.

“‘No Rules’ is a scorned love letter in song form that attempts to break the vicious cycle of a toxic relationship,” Doll said. “It was a fun track to record, because regardless of what stage you are at in life, everyone can relate to a little heartbreak.”

Doll also talked about the song’s video.

“We are collaborating again with director Alexander Thomas to create the video,” she said. “I’m stoked, because we were taping at The Pinks old stomping grounds, The Yucca Tap Room. The venue is an Arizona punk rock staple, and we really came into our own as a band on that stage – so it’s only fitting.”

The video features the band on stage in the performance space as two women sit at a bar inside, watching the performance. Audiences will also appreciate that the unidentified bartender featured in the video is sporting a Chaser t-shirt. Chaser is a well-known punk band in its own right.

In other news, The Venomous Pinks are scheduled to perform live in late May at the Pouzza Fest 10 in Montreal, Quebec. They will join the likes of Propaghandi, Cloud Nothings, Belvedere, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, and War on Women for the festival.

The Venomous Pinks’ debut album is preceded by its EP, I Want You, which was released in 2020. The record produced the single, ‘I Really Don’t Care‘.

The band premiered the lyric video for the title track for its new album, which is scheduled for release April 8 through Thousand Islands Records, Soundspeed Records,SBAM Records, and Pee Records. ‘Dreamers’ is the album’s third single. The ‘Dreamers’ lyric video places the song’s lyrics over the album’s artwork as the upbeat pop punk arrangement plays over it all. Speaking of that arrangement, it will appeal to fans of similar acts, such as New Found Glory, Sum 41, and All Time Low.

The lyrical theme that accompanies the musical arrangement featured in ‘Dreamers’ is meant to be an inspirational statement, according to a prepared statement from the band.

“The song ‘Dreamers’ is the title track off our new album,” the statement reads. “It’s a dedication to those who have persevered through personal struggles and misfortune to continue chasing their dreams. Chaser Debuts ‘Look Alive’ Lyric Video

Courtesy: Thousand Island Records/Sound Speed Records/SBAM Records/Pee Records

Skatepunk band Chaser debuted the lyric video for its latest single this week.

The band debuted the lyric video for its new single ‘Look Alive‘ Monday.  The song’s musical arrangement is an infectious composition whose guitar, bass, drums and vocals are all well-balanced with one another.  It quickly lends itself to a comparison to works from the likes of Pennywise.

The song’s lyrical theme is just as similar to that of works from Pennywise as said band’s musical arrangements.  It is clearly a sociopolitical statement that urges listeners to take a stand for their beliefs and to unite against all the wrongs in the world.

‘Look Alive’ is one of two songs featured on Chaser’s forthcoming 7″ which is scheduled for release Sept. 4.  The two-song recording will release on four different color variants through Thousand Island Records (Canada), Sound Speed Records (USA), SBAM Records (Europe) and Pee Records (Australia).  Its A-side is listed as ‘Look Alive’ and its B-side as ‘Found Myself Again.’

Bassist Jesse Stopnitzky said in a prepared statement, the record’s release will serve as a fundraiser to help four different nonprofit agencies.

“Our proceeds from the record will be donated to 4 carefully handpicked charitable organizations: Equal Justice Initiative, Educational First Steps, Crisis Aid International, and Surfrider Foundation,” he said.  “2020 has been a year like no other. In the face of such unprecedented crises, one’s impact feels further minimized. However, if we have learned anything from these experiences, it is that we are all in this together and have a responsibility to do our part. At the minimum, manage what we can control.”
