Rock Super Group The Lucid Announces New Album Details; Premieres Album’s Lead Single

Members of Sponge, Fear Factory, and an ex-member of Megadeth have joined to make a new super group.

Vinnie Dombroski (Sponge), Mike Heller (Fear Factory) and David Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) have joined with guitarist Drew Fortier (Bango Tango, David Ellefson, Zen From Mars) to form the new rock super group, The Lucid. The group is scheduled to release its self-titled debut album Oct. 15 through SpoilerHead Records.

Ellefson said in a prepared statement, he was looking forward to the album’s release.

“It’s been a real blast making a record with these guys and I must say that it’s refreshing to explore some new musical avenues….to step out a bit from what each of us have done stylistically in our own careers,” he said. “There was an effortless synergy that came with creating these songs together which is always amazing when working with new people. I’m looking forward to everyone checking it out!”

Pre-orders are open now. The album’s track listing is noted below.

The Lucid will feature the following track listing:

1.Maggot Wind
2.Deaths of Despair
3.Spoiler Head
4.Hair
5.Maskronaut
6.Damned
7.Breech Boy
8.Pigs and Sons
9.Parade of Spit

In anticipation of the album’s release, the band premiered the record’s lead single, ‘Maggot Wind’ Wednesday. The song’s title conjures thoughts of something heavy and intense, but ironically, the song’s musical arrangement is anything but. Rather, it lends itself more to comparison to works from the likes of Alter Bridge. Just as interesting is that even with that in mind, the sound of Dombroski’s voice as he sings is comparable to that of the late great Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver front man Scott Weiland.

No information was provided about the lyrical theme featured in ‘Maggot Wind’ in the press release announcing the band’s formation, album details, and single debut. However, in looking at the lyrics provided with the song, it would seem that the song’s lyrical theme is a commentary of sorts about the state of the world. That is just this critic’s own interpretation.

In other news, Ellefson and Fortier are scheduled to appear together at a trio of dates this fall to support their new horror film, Dwellers. The movie is scheduled for release on Blu-ray and digital streaming services Oct. 12. It is available to pre-order through various limited edition bundles here.

Ellefson and Fortier’s scheduled appearances are noted below.

Crypticon, Minneapolis, MN – Sept. 10-12
Dead Conventions, Fort Wayne, IN – Oct 15-17
Chiller Theater, Parsippany, NJ – Oct 29-31

Composed of Scott Stapp (ex-Creed) on vocals, Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal (ex Guns ‘N Roses) on guitar, John Moyer (ex-Disturbed) on bass and twin brothers Jon and Vince Votta on guitar and drums respectively, the band originally formed through an 18-year friendship between Thal and the Votta brothers.

Jon Votta first approached Thal with the idea to form the band years ago.  That discussion eventually led to the band’s creation, which originally saw the late Scott Weiland (ex-Stone Temple Pilots) handle vocal duties. The band’s debut self-titled album was released in June 2015.

Stapp said in a recent interview that he was optimistic about working with the members of Art of Anarchy.

“I’m excited to be a part of Art of Anarchy,” Stapp said.  “I appreciate collaborating with other talented artists and I can’t wait to share our new music with the fans very soon.”

Band manager John Gomez shared Stapp’s optimism.

“The other members of AOA and I are equally excited to have Stapp on board,” Gomez said.  “This is the first band that Scott has fronted outside of Creed and his heart’s really in it.  Scott’s vision, his gift for gut-wrenching storytelling and his powerful vocals lend a bold new energy to the group.”

Thal thought bringing Stapp on to take Weiland’s place has been a boon for the band, adding he thought Stapp’s addition to the band helped take the band in a new direction.

“Scott’s style and the personal lyrics he’s been writing are taking the sound in a new direction – one that brings out the best in all of us,” Thal said.  “It’s a new chapter for us all, and I’m looking forward to sharing the new music with the fans and seeing what the future holds.”

Vince Votta agreed.

“It’s been awesome having Stapp on board,” Votta said.  “Everyone is bringing their A-game and can’t wait to bring it live to the stage.”

Audiences that haven’t heard that new sound can hear The Madness’ latest single, its title track online now via the band’s official YouTube channel.  More information on The Madness is available online now along with all of Art of Anarchy’s latest news and more at:

STP shows it’s “alive” and well in new concert

Courtesy: Eagle Rock Entertainment/Eagle Vision

Stone Temple Pilots is one of the most famous bands of the 90’s rock world.  The San Diego, California based band saw its share of highs in the release of its first two albums, with numerous singles hitting radio stations nationwide.  It’s also seen its lows as a result of frontman Scott Weiland’s personal and legal issues.  But now, with the release of its brand new live recording, “Alive in The Windy City”, it would seem that Stone Temple Pilots is making its way back to the top of the rock world.

“Alive in the Windy City” documents the band’s 2010 show at Chicago’s historic Riviera Theatre.  The band put on a high adrenaline show with hits from across its catalogue, including:  ‘Creep’, ‘Dead and Bloated’, ‘and the band’s biggest hit, ‘Vasoline.’  The way the band rockets through its set, one wouldn’t even think the band’s members had been apart that long.  It’s amazing the energy coming from the band, as fast as it blazed through its set.  All four of the band’s members–Scott Weiland (vocals), Dean DeLeo (guitar), Robert DeLeo (bass) and Eric Kretz (drums)—-hit their marks from the opening strains of ‘Vasoline’ to the fading notes of ‘Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart.’

The audience in attendance felt the energy shared by the band, and gave it right back to the band.  The audience sang every word to every song without fail throughout the show.  And so will anyone that picks up the dvd or blu-ray release of this show.  It’s a solid performance from start to finish.  And there’s no denying that for fans who grew up with STP, “Alive in The Windy City” is like a time machine that will take them back to another time.

Whether or not fans pick up “Alive in The Windy City”, they’ll also get the chance to see the band live this Summer.  STP will be touring in support of the new release, with dates across North America, starting in Kingston, Ontario, Canada on August 19th.  Fans can get a full listing of the band’s tour dates online at http://www.stonetemplepilots.com, on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/stpband, on Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/stonetemplepilots, and on its official Youtube channel at http://www.youtube.com/officialstp.
