Shout! Factory, Shout! Kids Start 2015 Strong With New Chuck & Friends DVD

2014 is officially in the books and 2015 has officially started. And while the year is only on its first day, parents and kids alike already have plenty of reason to be excited. That’s because Shout! Kids and Hasbro Studios will release the latest compilation of episodes from Discovery Family’s hit family friendly series The Adventures of Chuck & Friends this month. The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Rev Your Engines will be released on DVD Tuesday, January 13th. There is just as much to take away from this compilation, the seventh from the series, as those that have come before. The main thing that audiences will take away from this collection is its invaluable lessons. Every one of the compilation’s ten episodes teaches its own invaluable lesson. Also, audiences of all ages will appreciate the episodes’ short run time. Each episode runs roughly eleven minutes. By direct connection, the pacing of each episode helps to keep young audiences engaged. The end result of these factors together is a release that is the first great DVD for children and family of 2015.

The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Rev Your Engines is this year’s first great DVD for children and families. The primary reason for this title is the fact that each of its ten episodes includes its own important lesson. While most of the episodes in this compilation feature important life lessons, at least one episode—“Bridging The Gap”—highlights the importance of science education. The lesson is set up when Handy explains his science project, a rubber band-powered plane, to Chuck and the others. When Handy’s plane actually takes flight and lands on the other side of a gap in the forest, they have to figure out how to build a bridge to get across and get the plane. So, not only does the episode teach the importance of science education, but it also teaches the most basic fundamentals of engineering. It’s good to see that Hasbro Studios and Shout! Kids have included “Bridging The Gap” in their latest compilation from The Adventures of Chuck & Friends. The lessons centered on the importance of science education and engineering show that both can be fun. And in an age when kids are increasingly being driven away from such fundamentals and more towards all things internet, they become increasingly important as part of the compilation’s whole. They prove to be just as important as the equally invaluable life lessons included in the set’s other episodes. Speaking of those lessons, the lesson in handling bullies in the disc’s closer “The Bully” is another important addition to the set. This episode teaches young viewers the ways to deal with bullies. It highlights the importance of getting an adult when one is dealing with a bully. In its own way, this episode explains that getting an adult involved when dealing with a bully is not tattling. It is doing the right thing. It also explains that there are other measures that can be taken along with contacting an adult about a bully. In a time when bullying remains a serious problem across America, this lesson is one of the most important taught in any of the set’s episodes. On a related note, “Chuck in Charge” teaches about bullying in another way. This episode teaches that leaving people out of one’s activities without any good reason is not a very nice thing to do. While it doesn’t come out and say it, it equates leaving people out of activities to bullying of its own sort. It’s one more of so many great lessons spread across the disc that proves why every parent and child should pick up this DVD.

If the noted episodes aren’t enough reason for audiences to check out this DVD when it is released, there are other episodes that will definitely convince them. “Brother Borrowing” indirectly tackles the subject of jealousy. It could even serve as a starting point in tackling the issue of sibling rivalry in its own right. “Little Big Chuck” teaches children that it’s okay to be young and that they shouldn’t rush to grow up. And “Boomer The Snowplow” teaches children to believe in themselves and that they can be anything they want to be. Yet again, more proof of why the lessons incorporated into this collection more than make it worth the purchase. Whether it be any of these many lessons or those remaining not noted, it can be said with certainty that the lessons taught through the set’s ten episodes are collectively the most important reason for the collection’s enjoyment.

The lessons that are taught throughout each of the ten episodes in Chuck & Friends’ new collection are collectively the most important reason for the compilation’s success and enjoyment. The show’s writers waste little time delivering each lesson, too. Each episode runs roughly eleven minutes in length. Taking into account the average attention span of the show’s target audience, eleven minutes is just enough time to keep said audiences engaged. Were they any longer, the writers risked losing those eyeballs and minds. It would also mean that in potentially losing those eyeballs and minds the all-important lessons in each episode would have been all for naught. So for that reason, those behind the show are to be commended for maintaining what is one of the show’s long-held standards in these episodes.

The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Rev Your Engines offers some rather invaluable lessons throughout each of its ten episodes. Each episode teaches a lesson different from the last. No one lesson is less valuable than the other. The run time of each episode gives the show’s writers just enough time to deliver their lessons without losing their audiences. By direct connection, the pacing of each episode is just as important as the episodes’ run times. They move at a pace that is not necessarily rapid fire but at a pace that leaves not one second to waste. Simply put, not even parents will be left scratching their heads. The pacing is just enough that it allows audiences of all ages to follow the stories and still understand the episodes’ underlying lessons. The end result is full enjoyment of each episode and a great starting point for a whole new group of discussions between parents and children. It collectively proves The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Rev Your Engines to be 2015’s first great DVD for children and families.

The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Rev Your Engines will be available on DVD Tuesday, January 13th. It can be pre-ordered online via Shout! Factory’s online store at https://www.shoutfactory.com/kids/kids-animation/the-adventures-of-chuck-friends-rev-your-engines. More information on this and other releases from Shout! Factory and Shout! The Rescue Bots Are Back On The Job With Another Fun DVD For The Whole Family

Courtesy: Shout! Factory/Shout! Kids

Courtesy: Shout! Factory/Shout! Kids

The latest compilation of episodes from Hasbro Studios’ Transformers Rescue Bots is another great collection for any fan of this kid friendly series.  The compilation, which was released last Tuesday, September 2nd, is especially well-timed considering the proximity of its release to Halloween.  That is primarily because of the five episodes featured in the disc.  The episodes presented on this disc offer their own not so scary stories that are still a good fit for any child’s Halloween party.  For those that might be new to this series (like this critic), said audiences will also appreciate the series’ animation.  Being another product of Hasbro studios, it should come as no surprise that the series’ animation plays a role in its enjoyment, too.  And last but not least of all worth noting in the overall presentation is the series’ list of voice talents.  The actors charged with putting a voice to the series’ characters are largely well-known figures.  They are figures that have quite the resume when it comes to animated programs, children’s programs, and sci-fi shows, too.  Some have experience in all three realms, making their acting all the more believable and in turn enjoyable.  The combination of those experienced voice talents and the series’ animation and writing makes Transformers Rescue Bots: Mystery Rescue just as enjoyable for those that are new to this series as those that are more familiar with the show.

Transformers Rescue Bots: Mystery Rescue is the fifth compilation of episodes from the Hub network’s hit children’s series.  The compilation was released just last week in stores.  Its timing could not have been better taking into account its episodes and the fact that Halloween is a little more than a month away.  The episodes collected for this compilation each present their own not so scary but still entertaining story for kids at their Halloween parties this year.  The DVD opens with a mystery that sees everyone in Griffin Rock suddenly disappearing after a horde of robotic bugs infests the town.  It’s up to Cody, his friends, and the Rescue Bots to solve the mystery.  The second episode sees some “ghosts” suddenly appearing.  It turns out though, that things aren’t always what they appear to be when Cody and the Rescue Bots investigate the “hauntings.”  There’s even a little twist that parents and kids alike will like, regardless of whether or not they are believers.  “Spellbound” is the third episode chosen for the DVD.  One could argue that this episode lifts lightly from Stephen King’s novel Cell as cell phones are being used to take over the minds of the Griffin Rock’s citizens.  This is an especially enjoyable episode not only for this reason, but for its emphasis on caring for the environment.  “Blame The Gremlins” is another great addition that parents and children will appreciate as it offers its own frightful fun.  When Cody’s big brother Kade (voiced by Jason Marsden) starts having nightmares about gremlins, those nightmares become reality and invade Griffin Rock.  Parents that are familiar with Rod Serling’s original Twilight Zone series will appreciate the subtle homage to the episode “Nightmare at 20,000 Feet” in this episode.  One could even argue that there’s a subtle reference to a certain gremlin from Warner Brothers’ beloved Looney Tunes franchise.  “Feed The Beast” closes out the DVD with a little tale of Griffin Rock’s own version of the legendary Sasquatch.  As with the discs other episodes, it offers its own frightful fun for younger viewers.  All of the episodes together will keep young viewers fully engaged from start to finish.

Of the stories included on this disc are not enough enjoyment by themselves, audiences that might be new to Transformers Rescue Bots will appreciate the fact that the episodes are kid friendly.  They don’t have the level of violence and deep, thought provoking material that makes up the original Transformers franchise or any of its offshoots over the years.  It makes for a fun and safe way to ease younger viewers into the Transformers universe.  It could be argued that to that extent, it actually takes a page from the likes of Tiny Toon Adventures, The Flintstone Kids, Taz-Mania and others that came from that era.  That’s because while many critics came down hard on the series, the reality was that they were in fact a way to slowly and gently bring younger viewers into the likes of Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, ScoobyDoo and other classic franchises.  To that extent, the very concept of this franchise makes the writing all the more valuable and enjoyable to the overall presentation that is this latest compilation.

The writing that went into the episodes on this DVD makes them (and the franchise in whole) a joy for both children and adults.  Its mix of family friendly stories and its more grown-up pop culture references will make watching them as a family a fun time.  And especially today, families need as much time as possible together.  It’s not all that makes this collection enjoyable, either.  The series’ animation also makes the episodes presented here fun, too.  Audiences that are familiar with Hasbro Studios’ properties will find it no surprise that this series’ animation bears a somewhat similar animation style to that of both Pound Puppies and Littlest Pet Shop.  It is safe to suffice that the same individuals charged with crafting the artwork for those series were also behind Transformers Rescue Bots, too simply by watching these episodes.  Even with its similarities to those series, it does bear its own identity apart from them.  The differences lie mainly in little things like the contours of the characters and the backgrounds and even the coloring. Other than that, this series’ animation lies in the same category as those others from Hasbro Studios already noted. Even as similar as its animation is to those series, it still is nice to see animation today that can look so much like it was hand drawn instead of all of the cookie cutter CGI shows out there for younger audiences today. It’s just one more part of what makes this new DVD so welcome in any family’s DVD library.

The animation in Transformers Rescue Bots: Mystery Rescue and the writing in its episodes together make this latest collection of episodes welcome in any family’s DVD library. The last factor to note that makes it such a welcome addition to any family’s library is the series’ list of voice actors. Those behind the characters in this series are no strangers to voicing animated characters. The cast includes Jason Marsden, Kath Soucie, Levar Burton, Mauriche LaMarche, Tim Curry, Diamond White and so many others. While their episodes are not included in this DVD, Mark Hamill (Star Wars, Batman The Animated Series) and Danica McKellar (The Wonder Years) even offer their talents in a couple of episodes, too. Having such a who’s who of actors lending their talents to this series is a tribute to its popularity and the popularity of the Transformers franchise in whole. Jason Marsden is known for his work on Nickelodeon’s The Fairly Odd Parents and as the voice of Nermal in Cartoon Network’s The Garfield Show. He has worked on a number of other series and movies, too. These are just a couple examples of his body of work. Kath Soucie and Levar Burton both worked together on Captain Planet and the Planeteers early in the 1990s. Soucie is also known as the voice of Phil and Lil DeVille in Nickelodeon’s beloved Nicktoon Rugrats. Not to omit Mauriche LeMarche or Tim Curry, the resume of these two actors could fill pages and pages. Needless to say they are quite the well trained and well-respected actors. And having them on this series’ cast is quite the statement. Newcomer Diamond White has already started building up her own resume with voice acting credits including work on Disney’s Phineas and Ferb, and Sophia the First. She also plays the role of Sophie in Nickelodeon’s teen-centric series The Haunted Hathaways. Needless to say, the cast that was tapped for the roles in Transformers Rescue Bots more than did its job with this latest collection of episodes. Their years of training and experience helped them to interpret each episode’s script and in turn make it each story all the more enjoyable. The end result is a collection of episodes that the whole family will enjoy again and again while they wait for the next collection of episodes from this surprisingly entertaining show.

The A-list voice cast tapped to voice the characters in this latest collection of episodes from Hub’s Transformers Rescue Bots goes a long way toward validating it and the series in whole. Parents will note the celebrities’ names and want to check out the actors’ work for themselves. They will also appreciate some of the subtle pop culture references thrown in for good measure in some of the episodes included on the DVD. Kids will enjoy the animation and stories in general. All things considered, there is a lot that makes Transformers Rescue Bots: Mystery Rescue a hit for the whole family. So much in fact that it could potentially end up on this critic’s list of the year’s best new DVDs for children and families. It is available now in stores and online. It can be ordered direct from Shout! Factory’s website at https://www.shoutfactory.com/kids/kids-animation/transformers-rescue-bots-mystery-rescue. Shout! Kids’ Latest Pound Puppies Compilation Is Another Great Watch For The Whole Family

Courtesy; Shout! Factory/Shout! Kids/Hub/Hasbro Studios

Courtesy; Shout! Factory/Shout! Kids/Hub/Hasbro Studios

Shout! Kids released the latest collection of episodes from Hub’s award-winning series Pound Puppies this week.  The latest collection of episodes from this update on the original 1980s series is just as much a jewel as the series’ previous compilation DVDs.  The episodes included in this compilation make it so enjoyable first and foremost because of the episodes’ writing.  By connection, audiences will appreciate the subtle lessons taught through some of the episodes.  Intentional or not, there are some subtle lessons taught through some of this set’s episodes.  It makes the set all the richer.  And last but not least, viewers (especially parents) will appreciate this latest compilation is the list of guest appearances.  Some very big names lend their talents to Pound Puppies in this collection.  Whether it be the guest talent, the lessons, the writing or all three factors together, Pound Puppies: A Perfect Match proves to be another wonderful set of episodes for the whole family.

The writing behind this collection of episodes is the central point of impact for this DVD.  Those that are familiar with this incarnation of Pound Puppies and with the original series from the 1980s know that both series emulate the classic WWII-themed sitcom Hogan’s Heroes in their theme songs.  The new Pound Puppies has taken things to a higher level, actually giving Ace and his canine friends an underground base just like Col. Hogan and his Allied forces friends in Hogan’s Heroes.  As viewers will see in this set’s opening episode, the writers even emulate Hogan’s Heroes in terms of the writing, too.  In “The Yipper Caper”, viewers see McLeash bring in a giant dog feeding machine just to impress his superiors much like Col. Klink would do in Hogan’s Heroes.  Klink was always taking on some wild, hair-brained scheme to impress his higher-ups.  On the other side of things, audiences hear Ace tell Yipper that the Pound Puppies have homes outside the shelter, but they stay there to help others.  Audiences familiar with Hogan’s Heroes will again recognize quite the similarity there.  This writing is a wonderful homage to the golden era of television and takes things one step farther than the original Pound Puppies series.  That homage is just the tip of the iceberg in what makes the writing so fun in these episodes.  Just as impressive to note is the fact that the show’s writers are able to time and again find ways for the Pound Puppies to complete their missions without McLeash ever knowing.  This is the case throughout all five episodes, not just the opener.  Again, this is an homage to Hogan’s Heroes.  It’s one more way to potentially get young viewers started on the road to an appreciation for television’s Golden Era.  And for that, the show’s writers are more than deserving of their applause.

As one should be able to tell by now, the writing behind the episodes included in the latest Pound Puppies compilation DVD is key to the collection’s overall enjoyment.  Even older viewers will appreciate the writing thanks to its throwback to what is one of television’s greatest ever sitcoms.  Just as important to these episodes are the lessons taught through the episodes.  “Hello Kitten” teaches a not so subtle lesson about the ability of people to get along and be friends despite opposing backgrounds.  It does this by having the youngest of the pound puppies help a kitten find his perfect person.  There’s just one problem.  The Pound Puppies’ feline counterparts, led by a feline mirror image of Ace is set out to keep the young kitten from becoming friends with dogs and finding a person for the kitten themselves.  In the end, the cats learn that it’s okay to be friends with dogs.  The secondary lesson taught here is that one must let go of things from the past.  All holding onto the past does is make a person bitter.  “Beauty is only Fur Deep” teaches a lesson about being one’s self when a much talked about dog comes to Kennel 17.  The Pound Puppies have their hands…*ahem*…paws full when the seemingly humble dog turns quite self-centered on getting a new coat of fur.  It creates lots of problems for the Pound Puppies especially when he shoots down the little girl they said was his perfect person. He of course learns a rather valuable lesson from this experience that viewers of all ages will appreciate.

The lessons taught through the episodes culled for Pound Puppies: A Perfect Match and the general writing that pays homage to Hogan’s Heroes both make this latest compilation of episodes just as enjoyable as previous Pound Puppies DVDs. There is one more factor to consider in this DVD that makes its episodes so fun. That final factor is the list of guest stars that lent its talents to each episode. J.K. Simmons (Spiderman 1 3) and Tress MacNeille both share their talents in the episodes included in this DVD. Go figure, Simmons voices a character in “Working K-9 To 5” that is a newspaper man. Hmmmmm, now where have we seen that before? His character is even presented much in the same vein as J. Jonah Jameson from director Sam Raimi’s Spiderman Trilogy. MacNeille (The Simpsons, Futurama) voices a fellow canine in another episode. It’s only a bit part. But parents that know McNeille’s voice will love hearing her voice here, too. And of course, the true queen of comedy herself, Betty White, returns once more as the voice of McLeash’s not so nice mother. These are just some of the guests that appear in the episodes collected for this DVD. Also on board on these episodes are: Tara Strong (Rugrats, The Powerpuff Girls, The Fairly Odd Parents), E.G. Daily (Rugrats, The Powerpuff Girls, Chalk Zone), Diedrich Bader (Batman: The Brave & The Bold, Napoleon Dynamite, The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy), Danny Cooksey (Salute Your Shorts, Diff’rent Strokes, Tiny Toon Adventures) and so many others. The fact that so many well-known actors and actresses would lend their talents to these episodes shows just how respected a series it proves to be. Parents will recognize most (if not all) of the names mentioned here. And that alone is enough to give the DVD just one watch if not more. And it is most definitely deserving of far more than just one watch.

Chuck & Friends Running On All Cylinders In Their Latest Compilation

Courtesy: Shout! Kids/Hasbro Studios/Hub

Courtesy: Shout! Kids/Hasbro Studios/Hub

The writers behind Hasbro Studios’ The Adventures of Chuck & Friends have made a habit of crafting episodes that are both entertaining and that have heart at the same time.  Watching the episodes contained on the show’s previous DVD releases, one sees just why this series is a favorite among both children and their parents.  Now families have yet another new compilation of episodes front loaded with even more fun and heartfelt episodes in The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Trucks Versus Wild.  This latest compilation, the fifth so far from the series, contains ten more episodes from the hit Hub network series.  That brings the total number of shorts to fifty so far.  The show has actually produced thirty-nine full length episodes with a total of seventy-eight shorts and one special, bringing the total to forty episodes.  That the series has reached forty episodes especially on a digital network is a major statement about this latest compilation.  The episodes themselves are collectively another reason that families will enjoy thanks once again to the work of the show’s writers.  And despite the fact that the show is based in CG animation, the animation still maintains a difference from that of other computer animated based children’s programs that fill the television spectrum today.  These factors together make The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Trucks Versus Wild one more fun filled collection of episodes from this family favorite Hub network series.

Hub network is not a network that is available to every family.  Most cable and satellite service providers carry Hub on one of their many digital tiers.  That means that in order to take in Hub network’s programming–Chuck & Friends included—families have to pay an extra monthly charge for the whole tier on which it sits.  They might even have to pay an extra secondary fee for a digital box each month so as to receive said tier.  So what does this have to do with the fact that audiences now have fifty of seventy-eight shorts from The Adventures of Chuck & Friends to watch?  It has plenty to do with this fact.  Not every family has subscribed to or even will subscribe to their provider’s digital television service.  That means that whatever percentage of audiences would only see the show via its DVD releases.  The combined DVD sales and digital subscriptions have provided enough of a fan base for The Adventures of Chuck & Friends that they have offset those without subscriptions to necessary digital services.  It’s a testament to the series’ ability to entertain families even solely through DVD sales. Put into simple terms, it shows that the series is simply that popular among audiences whether they have the chance to see it on TV or not.  And the series remains so popular largely because of the work done by its writers.

It’s quite the feat for The Adventures of Chuck & Friends to have reached a total so far of forty episodes and seventy-eight shorts.  That is a lot for a cartoon series; especially one that is carried on a digital tier rather than standard cable networks.  Luckily its shorts have been made available for families to enjoy on DVD, too.  This allows even more audiences to experience the enjoyable work done by the show’s writers.  That is the central point of what makes this show so successful, whether viewed on its digital tiers across the country or on DVD.  And this latest compilation of episodes is a prime example of that.  Trucks Versus Wild presents in its ten episodes lessons about getting over one’s fear of doctors, not growing up too fast, and not taking advantage of one’s friends and families among many others.  These are timeless lessons to which every generation of children has dealt with.  The series’ writers are to be commended for having taken the noted lessons and made them relevant to the current generation of young viewers.  It’s one more part of the whole that makes this latest compilation of shorts from The Adventures of Chuck & Friends as enjoyable as the series’ previous DVD releases.

The latest compilation of shorts from The Adventures of Chuck & Friends offers families loads of fun and important life lessons.  That is hopefully clear by now.  There is still one more factor in this set that makes it enjoyable.  That factor is the shorts’ “animation.”  While it may be computer based, that “animation” still helps to maintain the series’ identity from all of the other computer-based children’s programs on television today.  The similarity to the likes of Pixar’s Cars and Disney’s Planes is there.  But it is only an incidental similarity at best.  For the most part, it really manages to maintain its own look.  That is thanks to the work of those that bring the series to life behind the scenes.  Together with the work done by the show’s writers in the episodes culled for this set, it makes the compilation all the more worth buying when it hits stores later this month.  It will be available in stores and online Tuesday, January 21st.  It can be ordered directly from Shout! Factory’s online store at http://www.shoutfactory.com/product/adventures-chuck-and-friends-trucks-vs-wild.  More information on this and other releases from Shout! Factory is available online at http://www.shoutfactory.com and http://www.facebook.com/shoutfactoryofficial.

Parents and Kids Will get Revved Up With The Latest Chuck and Friends Compilation

Courtesy: Shout! Kids/Shout! Factory/Hasbro/The Hub

Chuck, Soku, Digger, and the rest of his friends are back once again with a whole new collection of family friendly episodes from The Hub’s The Adventures of Chuck & Friends

The Adventures of Chuck & Friends: Bumpers Up is the fourth release from the hit children’s cartoon on The Hub.  It will be available next Tuesday, August 13th.  As with the previous DVD releases, this compilation of episodes offers parents and children ten more episodes full of family friendly fun and important life lessons.  The writers behind the show are to be commended once again as neither the lessons nor the general entertainment steps on the other.  This is just one of the positives to this new set.  Viewers will also enjoy the fun musical numbers in each episode.  And speaking of the musical numbers, Bumpers Up includes its own sing-a-long feature as a bonus element.  The bonus sing-a-long on this DVD from Shout! Kids includes the words to the song that kids can read while they sing.  This is actually a double whammy in the best possible way.  And while most audiences don’t take it into account, even the bright colors used in each episode play their own part in the overall enjoyment of these episodes.  All combined, they make for one more collection that parents and kids will enjoy every time that they pop it in their DVD or Blu-ray player.

The episodes included in this collection are just as enjoyable for parents and children as the show’s previous trio of releases.  That is thanks in large part to the show’s writers.  The storylines and life lessons included in each episode are very well balanced thanks to the show’s writers.  Neither element steps on top of the other even once.  Audiences can take their pick of episodes in this set.  Each episode serves as a wonderful example of exactly that.  A random example of this balance is in the set’s first episode, “Choosy Chuck.”  Chuck’s parents are going to take him to the truck history museum.  There’s just one problem with this.  They have an extra ticket, which they give to Chuck to use with one of his friends.  The result is that Chuck has to make a very difficult decision.  Of course, it ends with a happy ending.  Again, the general storyline and the important life lesson perfectly balance out.  What’s more, it’s enjoyable because it is so relatable.  Scenarios such as that presented here do in fact happen in real life.  So it becomes an even more valuable addition to this compilation.  “Choosy Chuck” teaches young viewers a very deep lesson in a very simplistic way, thanks to the show’s writers.  The even deeper lesson taught here is of personal sacrifice.  Even adults have to make the choice at times of personal sacrifice.  To that end, it becomes an even more invaluable addition to this new compilation.  Even adults can take something away from it (and the other included episodes).

Just as important an inclusion to “Bumpers Up” is the episode, Soku-Kun.  As with “Choosy Chuck”, this episode also teaches viewers of all ages some very important lessons. It teaches the lessons of acceptance, tolerance, and understanding.  These are lessons that adults need just as much as children, as is evidenced every evening on the nightly news.  The writers are to be commended just as much for this episode as for “Choosy Chuck” and the other episodes included here.  It’s through this lesson that Chuck’s friend Soku learns that just because someone is from another country and different culture, it doesn’t make them any less than anyone else.  He learns this lesson when his cousin from Japan comes to visit.  His cousin can’t speak English though.  The resultant language barrier causes Soku to resent his cousin.  That is until Chuck and the others help Soku understand his cousin more easily.  The end result is a happy ending, and a lesson that is just as valuable as any other in life and in this set.

The episodes noted here are merely a sample of what “Bumpers Up” offers for children and their parents.  Along with the family friendly writing, viewers also get plenty of family friendly musical numbers too.  The musical numbers go hand-in-hand so to speak with the lessons of each episode.  They help to drive home each lesson on the surface.  On a slightly deeper level, they’ll also have kids dancing and singing along as they clap their hands.  Staying on the matter of the songs, included as a bonus feature in this compilation is a brand new sing-a-long for kids.  The sing-a-long lets kids sing along karaoke style, as the song’s lyrics are included at the bottom of the screen.  What’s more, the song in question brings the entire compilation full circle.  It brings the compilation full circle as it teaches a lesson about the importance and value of teamwork all while rocking out.  And on an even deeper level, the included lyrics could also serve as an aid in teaching young viewers to read.  So not only does it serve two purposes, but in fact three.  This three-way attack of sorts makes the overall presentation over the top and that much more worth picking up or ordering when it becomes available on Tuesday, August 20th.  It can be ordered online direct from Shout! Factory’s online store at http://www.shoutfactory.com/?q=node/217614.  Parents and kids can keep up with all of the latest family friendly releases on the Shout! Littlest Pet Shop Update A Good New Take On A Classic Cartoon

Hasbro’s new animated take on the Littlest Pet Shop toy franchise is a good series for its intended young female audience.  The first DVD from the updated series, “Little Pets, Big Adventures” is proof of that.  This take on the toys will most definitely entertain its intended audiences and teach some very important life lessons, too throughout the five episodes contained on its single disc.  Add in animation much like that of its fellow updates in Pound Puppies and My Little Pony, and young female audiences get a solid introduction to this updated cartoon.

The very first and most important factor that audiences will appreciate in Littlest Pet Shop: Little Pets, Big Adventures is its mix of entertainment and heart.  The heart in these episodes comes from the life lessons interwoven into each episode.  While there are only five episodes (technically there are four since one episode is a two-parter), the lessons written into each one and the manner in which they were written will be appreciated because they aren’t preachy.  They are there.  But they don’t overpower each episode’s main story.  Rather, they are extensions of each episode so to speak.  One of the best examples of this is in the set’s final episode, “Penny For Your Laughs.”  This episode is one more salvo in the fight against bullying.  It also includes a lesson about knowing who one’s real friends are.  The anti-bullying lesson is approached when Pepper decides to become a comedian.  Her jokes start out funny.  But then, they start to get increasingly mean.  Eventually they lead to some very hurt feelings.  While that is going on, Blythe learns her own lesson when she stands up for the Biscuit twins.  They take her on as a BFF.  At first she likes it.  But then she starts to realize that things aren’t all that they’re cracked up to be.  In the end, both she and Pepper learn about being sensitive to others.  This is an increasingly valuable lesson as bullying is still a major issue in America today.  So for including such an episode, and making the culmination of the set, too, the writers behind Littlest Pet Shop are to be commended.

This one episode is just one example of the value of the writing behind Littlest Pet Shop.  Audiences will also appreciate the lesson about responsibility in “Bad Hair Day” and the two part introductory episode, “Blythe’s Big Adventure.”  This episode is the show’s very first episode.  It sets the stage for the adventures to come.  There is no lesson in this episode.  But it will still entertain its audiences, regardless.  Viewers will just have to find out for themselves about these episodes when they pick up this first DVD from the updated series for themselves.

The writing behind Littlest Pet Shop plays its own role in the success of this cartoon for its intended audiences.  Those that have the Hub network on their cable carrier will recognize just how similar this cartoon’s animation style is to that of fellow updated cartoons, Pound Puppies and My Little Pony.    It bears all the trademarks of those cartoons all the way around.  And that isn’t necessarily a bad thing, either.  As is the case with any children’s cartoon, animation style plays a much larger role than many might think.  Its animation style is that new school style that looks blurs the line between CG based cartoons and hand drawn.  That line is so blurred that it’s next to impossible to tell which style was used.  This is actually a very good thing.  Young audiences need to be reminded as much as possible what real animation is.  In the same vein, the bright colors used throughout each episode are bright and cheery.  As minute a factor as it may seem the use of bright colors is a psychological move.  It helps to maintain a positive feeling among its audiences.  And when it is tied into the equally upbeat storylines, it becomes one more part of a whole that will make each episode that much more enjoyable for its viewers with each watch.  And each episode can be watched anytime because this DVD is available now in stores and online.  It can be ordered online direct via the Shout! Factory web store at http://www.shoutfactory.com/?q=node/216610.  Audiences can keep up with all of the latest news on releases from Shout! New Chuck & Friends DVD Offers More Entertainment, Life Lessons For The Whole Family

Chuck, the adventurous young dump truck is back once again.  And he’s brought all of his friends along for the “ride” in an all new collection of adventures from Shout! Kids, Hasbro, and The Hub.  The brand new collection, titled, When Trucks Fly takes viewers on ten more fun-filled adventures that also teach some very valuable lessons.  The Adventures of Chuck & Friends is just as enjoyable for kids and parents as the series’ previous release, Monster Rally.  The episodes are short enough to keep younger viewers’ attention.  And the bright, vivid colors do their own part in keeping kids engaged.  The adventures themselves will entertain kids.  And the life lessons tied into all ten episodes are equally important.

One of the best episodes included in this latest collection involves a motorcycle named Sam Steering who is blind.  Through the use of his friend, Sidecar, he is able to get around easier.  But he’s not entirely helpless.  As a matter of fact, he even helps keep Chuck’s dad from slipping in some oil early on because he could smell the oil.  Sam is a very helpful character to younger viewers in that he teaches kids that just because he’s different in not being able to see, he’s no different from anyone else.  In understanding this, Chuck and his friends learn to use their senses to locate the parts and toy race car for a race track they want to put together.  In a way, this teaches a very basic level of biology that will perhaps be the building block of getting kids interested in science.  All of the lessons are tied seamlessly together to make an episode that is one of the best in this collection.

When Trucks Fly offers lots of great lessons for kids in every episode as already noted.  Parents will especially appreciate this collection because at least two of the episodes included in this collection teach a lesson of cleanliness.  Both “Mystery He Rode” (yes that’s a spoof of Mystery She Wrote) and “Super Sweeper Chuck” teach kids the importance of keeping things clean and neat.  “Super Sweeper Chuck” teaches this lesson more directly than “Mystery He Rode.”  When Chuck and his friends decide to go off and play a game without cleaning up after themselves, Rowdy is the only one who stays behind to clean.  When Chuck’s dad comes along and sees this, he goes to get the others and bring them back.  The others see the mess that they left and that Rowdy had stayed behind.  They feel bad for having left such a mess and help clean up their mess.  The musical montage included here will get kids engaged even more.

By comparison, “Mystery He Rode” teaches the lesson cleanliness in a more subtle manner as Chuck and his friends look for Rowdy’s missing horn.  Chuck’s mom emphasizes to the boys that they need to put everything back once they’re done as they search for his horn.  It’s good to see this lesson incorporated into this episode, too.  Even more worthwhile in “Mystery He Rode” isn’t so much that lesson as the lesson of not falsely accusing others without proof.  One of the boys is falsely accused of having taken Rowdy’s missing horn at one point.  But thanks to Chuck pointing out one vital piece of evidence, his name is cleared, and the true location of Rowdy’s horn is revealed.  This is yet another important life lesson that parents will appreciate having been taught.  And kids will easily grasp it too.

Just as important as the lessons on cleanliness and accepting people’s differences, parents will appreciate the lessons of teamwork and honor in the episode, “Keep on Trackin’.”  Chuck and his friends are Junior Spark Plug Scouts in this episode.  During a scavenger hunt of sorts, Chuck and the others learn both of these lessons.  Chuck and Flip end up competing with each other instead of with one another.  They realize in the end that they hadn’t lived up to the teamwork or honor.  But in realizing this, they both earn their honor badges because of their honesty and decision to make up and work together from then on.  Yet again, parents and kids alike have one more important life lesson that even adults could learn from believe it or not.  It’s just one more part of the whole that kids and kids at heart will enjoy with every watch.  The Adventures of Chuck and Friends: When Trucks Fly will be available in stores and online on Tuesday, February 19th.  It can be ordered online direct from the Shout! Factory store at http://www.shoutfactory.com/?q=node/216660.
