Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators Releases New LP’s Latest Single, Video; Record Store Day Vinyl Planned

Courtesy: Gibson Records

Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators unveiled the latest single and video from its new album this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘April Fool‘ and its video Thursday. The song and video are the third from the band’s latest album, 4, which was released in February through Gibson Records. The album has also produced the singles, ‘Fill My World‘ and ‘The River Is Rising.’

The musical arrangement featured in ‘April Fool’ is a high energy, blues rock style composition that throws back to the pure guitar rock of the late 80s and early 90s. There are hints throughout the composition of Slash’s work with Guns N’ Roses throughout the work.

The song’s lyrical theme centers on someone who is done being treated badly by another. Kennedy and Slash talked about both elements in prepared statements.

I’ve got a lot of tapes of us jamming ‘April Fool’ at soundchecks without knowing where it would go, and although it took awhile to put together, it’s a cool riff,” said Slash. “The song really came together when we went into the studio, and it is one of the songs that Dave Cobb had a definite impact on. Certain key elements were missing in the demo, arrangement-wise, and he just went, ‘We’ll connect that right there…’ And I was like, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s a good idea!’ [laughs] Sometimes you just need that other person that you can trust musically. And if they have an idea, you can’t be too precious to try it.”

Added Kennedy, “It’s one of my favorites. A really fun track. Lyrically it’s about being played, and ultimately you realize you’ve had enough, and you decide you’re going to have the last laugh in the end. That’s where that line ‘I guess the jokes’ on you,’ comes into play. And Dave got his hands dirty on this one. He did some tweaking and suddenly it was like, ‘This is a lot better!’ We were really, really, happy with how it turned out.”

The video for ‘April Fool’ is a familiar, oft-used style presentation. It incorporates footage of the band live on stage as the song plays over the visualization.

In other news, the collective is planning the release of a new vinyl re-issue of 4 for the upcoming Record Store Day celebration on June 18. The vinyl pressing will include four additional songs that were recorded live at Studios 60 in Los Angeles, CA.

The double vinyl presentation is limited to 2,250 copies. More information on the special Record Store Day release is available here.

Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators Premieres New Album’s Second Single

Courtesy: GIbson Records

Audiences are getting another preview of 4, the next album from Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators.

The group debuted the record’s second single, ‘Fill My World‘ Friday. The song is the album’s second single behind ‘The River is Rising.’ The band premiered the song’s video Oct. 22.

The track listing for 4 is noted below.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Fill My World’ is a neo-classic rock type composition. The steady time keeping and the vocals pair well with the bass line to make for even more enjoyment.

Slash talked about the song’s musical and lyrical content in a prepared statement.

“Musically, I came up with it at my studio,” he said. “It was just the opening riff, and then the underlying chord changes started to come out in my mind. I wasn’t sure if I was going to pursue it or not, but I had to record it and make a demo. I thought, I don’t know what the guys are going to think… Because it has a certain sentimental kind of feel to it. But I sent it to Myles, and he came back with these heartfelt lyrics. I thought it was about the loss we’ve all been suffering during this dark period, and then he told me it was about his dog. [laughs] I said, ‘Well, you know, everybody has had somebody that they love affected by this, so…”

Kennedy expanded on Slash’s comments.

So, I have this little Shih Tzu named Mozart – he tries to act all tough, but he’s really not,” said Kennedy.” “And on one occasion we couldn’t get home, our flight was delayed and there was a really intense storm over our house. We have one of those little camera systems to keep an eye on the dog when we can’t be there, and we saw him just freaking out. It was heartbreaking to watch. It terrified the little guy. So, the narrative of the song is inspired by what I imagined he might have been thinking as it all went down. And his plea to us to come home.”

Added Kennedy, “When you listen to it, it could apply to a relationship between humans. But I thought it was interesting, at least for me, to sing it from Mozart’s perspective. And to be really honest, as I was singing the song in the studio, at one point you can hear my voice crack a little bit. It was getting to me. So, it’s definitely sung from the heart. And I’m man enough to admit it!”

The track listing for 4 is noted below.

1.   “The River is Rising”

2.   “Whatever Gets You By”

3.   “C’est La Vie”

4.   “The Path Less Followed”

Slash Ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators Announces New Album Title, Release Date; Debuts Video For Album’s Lead Single; Announces New Tour Dates

Courtesy: Gibson Records/Prime PR Group

Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators will release their new album in the new year.

The band is scheduled to release its simply-titled album, 4, Feb. 4 through Gibson Records. In anticipation of the album’s release, the band premiered the video for the album’s lead single, ‘The River is Rising’ Friday.

Shot in downtown Los Angeles with Gibson TV and directed by Todd Harapiak, the video features Slash, Kennedy and the rest of the band in a large warehouse/studio setting performing the new catchy, upbeat rocker.

Slash talked about the song’s musical arrangement during a recent interview.

“There’s two or three songs on the record that were written during the pandemic; everything else was written before,” he said. “‘The River is Rising’ was one of the last songs I wrote before we started pre-production, and because it was so fresh and has a certain groove and energy to it, it was the first thing we really attacked. It’s the newest song on the record, and as for the double-time part, that was something that I came up with and tagged onto the end of the arrangement. Then when we were over at RCA, Dave Cobb suggested we do it right after the breakdown. So, we went straight into the fast part, and I just started doing the guitar solo over it. It was one of those things where we were jamming around, trying to fish out the arrangement, and it just happened.”

Kennedy expanded on Slash’s comments, explaining the the message in the song’s lyrical theme.

“The lyric ultimately explores how humans can be brainwashed or indoctrinated by some sort of dangerous idea. Once we shot the demo back and forth a few times, I personally felt confident that we had the album opener. To me, it’s an important track.”

In related news, Gibson will commemorate the release of 4, the band’s first record with Gibson Records, with the release of a first-ever, limited edition Slash Les Paul album 4 package on Feb. 11. Gibbons’ New Solo LP Is 2018’s “Baddest” Rock Album

Courtesy: Concord Records

This year was a very productive span for the rock realm.  New offerings from well-known acts, such as Joe Satriani, Billy Gibbons and Stone Temple Pilots were joined by some enjoyable offerings from some lesser-known acts, such as The Magpie Salute, The Marcus King Band and Black Coffee to make for quite the selection of new offerings.

Simply put, the mainstream and the independent offerings turned out this year gave audiences plenty to appreciate. Many of those offerings made their way into Phil’s Picks list of the year’s top new rock albums, including and not limited to the offerings from the acts already noted here.

Topping off this critic’s list this year is Billy Gibbons’ new album The Big Bad Blues.  The ZZ Top star’s latest solo offering features some impressive covers of classic blues and blues rock tunes, while also offering some equally entertaining originals to round out the record’s body.  The whole is a record that is a solid listen from start to finish.

Taking second spot in this year’s list of the year’s top new rock albums is legendary guitarist Joe Satriani’s latest offering What Happens Next.  The full-on instrumental offering is everything that fans have come to expect from Satch, with touches of his past and present.

Third spot in this year’s list goes to Slash, Alter bridge front man Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators.  The group’s new offering Living The Dream is a well-produced and engineered album with plenty of radio ready singles that go a long way toward displaying the group’s collective talents.  The lyrical themes are just as easily accessible as the record’s arrangements.  While not a perfect record, it is still enjoyable in its own right.

The remainder of this year’s list is noted below.  Also featured in this year’s list are new efforts from Black Coffee, Pop Evil and P.O.D.  As always, the list’s top 10 titles are the best while the five that follow are all honorable mention titles.  Without any further ado, here for your consideration is Phil’s Picks 2018 Top 10 New Rock Albums.

Black Heart Saints Debuts ‘Alive’ Video

Courtesy: TAG Publicity

Independent rock ban Black Heart Saints has debuted the video for its latest single.

The band debuted the video on Thursday for its single, ‘Alive.’  The song is the title track from the band’s 2017 self-released album.  The album can be downloaded in whole now online via iTunes.

The video places the band’s new high energy single over footage of the band performing live and preparing for its live show.  The band explained the video’s creation in a collective statement.

“This video was shot during our performance opening for Steel Panther in Austin, Texas,” the band said.  “It captures some of the intimate moments that you normally don’t see: loading in, setting up, etc. — all of the hard work that it takes to bring about a killer rock show.”

Black Heart Saints just wrapped its most recent tour, dubbed “The Road to Sturgis 2018 Tour.”  That tour included a live performance at the 78th annual Sturgis Motorcycle rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.  It also included a performance opening for Faster Pussycat on August 19.

The band will open for Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators on Sept. 24 in its hometown of Austin, Texas.  The latter’s performance is part of a tour in support of its upcoming new album Living The Dream.

Slash ft. Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators Debuts Second Single From Forthcoming Album, ‘Living The Dream’

Courtesy: Snakepit/Roadrunner Records

Slash ft. Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators is giving audiences another preview of its upcoming album Living The Dream.

The band debuted the album’s second single ‘Mind Your Manners’ on Friday.  The song is streaming online at Spotify and Apple Music, and available as an instant grat track at other outlets.  Each outlet can be accessed here.

Slash discussed ‘Mind Your Manners’ in a recent interview, saying that the song’s genesis happened somewhat spontaneously.

“I wrote this song on the spot to help the band get up and running once we got back in the studio this past January,” Slash said.  “It’s just a go-for-it type of song.  Pretty straightforward rock and fun to play.”

Kennedy expanded on Slash’s thoughts, explaining the song’s lyrical content.

“‘Mind Your Manners’ was something I didn’t hear until the guys had started jamming together,” Kennedy said.  “It’s a cool up-tempo sort of thing and I knew immediately it would have its own place on this record.  Lyrically, it’s about how when things are going well, there always tends to be someone who tries to rain on your parade and knock you down.  You have to keep people like that in check and not let them get to you.”

The debut of ‘Mind Your Manners’ comes only weeks after the group debuted the forthcoming album’s lead single ‘Driving Rain‘ late last month.  Pre-orders for the album, which is due out October 21 via Snakepit/Roadrunner Records, are open now.  The album’s track listing is noted below.

Following is the tracklisting for LIVING THE DREAM:
1. The Call of the Wild
2. Serve You Right
3. My Antidote
4. Mind Your Manners
5. Lost Inside the Girl
6. Read Between the Lines
7. Slow Grind
8. The One You Loved Is Gone
9. Driving Rain
10. Sugar Cane
11. The Great Pretender

A tour in support of Living The Dream is scheduled to launch September 13  in Los Angeles, California. It is currently scheduled to run through October 18, bringing the band full circle back to Los Angeles with stops in Tulsa, Oklahoma; Louisville, KY; Silver Spring Maryland and other cities along the way.  The tour’s current schedule is noted below.
