Superbloom Channels Smashing Pumpkins In Its Latest Single

Courtesy: Earshot Media

Independent alt-rock band Superbloom debuted another new single this week.

The band debuted the title track from its new album, Pollen Friday through the online publication Consequence/Heavy Consequence. The song is also streaming through Spotify. The album’s fourth single, it follows the premiere of the album’s third single, ‘Muzzle‘ and its video last Friday, and ‘Whatever‘ and ‘Mary on a Chain‘ before that.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Pollen’ features a clear 90s alt-rock style and sound. To be specific, the guitars, bass, drums, and vocals conjure thoughts of Smashing Pumpkins.

No information was provided as to the song’s lyrical theme in the press release distributed about the song’s debut. Not having lyrics to reference, either, it is difficult to comment on the song’s lyrical theme.

Pollen is scheduled for release June 1. A vinyl release is scheduled to follow June 14.

The Smashing Pumpkins Debut New Video; Announce New Live Dates

Courtesy: Napalm Records

The Smashing Pumpkins has debuted its latest music video Thursday.

The band debuted the video for its latest single ‘Solara.’ The psychedelic was directed by Nick Koenig and sees front man Billy Corgan tryingto escape a rather bizarre looking facility filled with people getting a black light tan, a woman in mime face paint giving birth to an invisible baby and two of Corgan’s band mates in a tiny room playing connect four with all black pieces along with some equally bizarre imagery once he escapes.

Along with YouTube, ‘Solara’ is also streaming online via Spotify and can be downloaded via Apple Music and Amazon here.

Audiences can hear ‘Solara’ and many other Smashing Pumpkins hits live when the band launches its “Shiny and Oh So Bright North American Tour” next month. The tour is currently scheduled to launch July 12 in Glendale, Arizona and to run through September 9 in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. The nearly two-month-long tour includes performances in Nashville, TN; Detroit, Michigan; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and many other cities.

Once the band wraps its North American tour, it will take some time off to recharge before heading overseas for a European Tour.  Two European dates have already been announced and are included with the band’s latest tour schedule noted below.

UMe To Release New APC Hits Compilation Next Week

Courtesy: Universal Music Enterprise

Officials with Universal Music Enterprise have announced that the company will release a new hits collection from A Perfect Circle this Fall.  The new album, titled, Three-Sixty will be released via Universal Music Enterprise (Ume) on Tuesday, November 19th.  The album will be released in both a standard edition and an expanded deluxe edition.  Band co-founder Maynard James Keenan (Tool, Puscifer) discussed the upcoming hits package, explaining the band’s formation and how his relationship with friend Billy Howerdel (Ashes Divide) impacted the group’s upcoming compilation.  “Billy and I created A Perfect Circle out of a now long-running friendship, and I think the music we have made reflects that personal connection and has given us the ability to further develop and trust our intuition,” explained Keenan. “I feel Three Sixty is an accurate representation of that friendship and those instincts.”

Kennan and Howerdel formed A Perfect Circle in the 1990s.  They enlisted the help of a handful of other well-known musicians to help record their albums and join them on tour.  That list included: James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age, Failure), Paz Lenchantin (Entrance Band, Zwan), Jeordie White (Marilyn Manson), Josh Freese (The Vandals, Devo) and Tim Alexander (Primus, Attention Deficit).  The band’s first album, Mer de Noms, was released in 2000.  It quickly went to Number Five on Billboard’s Top 200.  The band then topped itself in 2003 with the release of its sophomore record, Thirteenth Step.  That album would go on to debut at Number Two on Billboard’s Top 200.  The band’s third full length release, eMOTIVe, is the band’s most recent.  It was released on election day 2004.  It is a collection of cover songs that was completely re-worked by the band.  Since the release of that album, the band has been on hiatus, with its members working on their own primary projects.  In all, A Perfect Circle has sold over five million albums worldwide.

The standard edition of the band’s upcoming hits compilation will include thirteen tracks taken from its current catalogue.  The deluxe edition will include a bonus second disc that contains songs from eMOTIVe, as well as four live performances and songs from the band’s catalogue.  The track listing for both the standard and deluxe edition are listed below.

Zac Brown Band Impresses Again On “Uncaged”

Courtesy: Southern Ground Artists/ROAR/Atlantic Records/wngreen

Zac Brown band’s third release, “Uncaged” is an interesting work.  While this record does have some of the same feel of the band’s 2008 debut, “The Foundation”, it goes in a slightly different direction.  What it tries to do is mix the sounds of its previous two releases into one full album.  It’s not the worst album that the band has released.  But it isn’t the best, either.  Regardless, it still has enough firepower to make it a fun listen.

The album opens very strongly with the song, ‘Jump Right In.’ The drums and whistles instantly conjure thoughts of Rio de Janeiro’s famed Carnival festival.  The song goes straight into the Jimmy Buffet song style that has made the Zac brown band so popular.  It’s just as uplifting lyrically as it is musically.  Brown sings in the song’s chorus, “You can jump right in/let the music pull you in/You can jump right in/Oh, lose yourself again/as the southern wind sings again/another lullaby.”  Simply put, this song is just a feel good song.  It’s about letting go of the worries of the world and simply having a good time every now and then.  It makes for a wonderful opening to this new album.

‘Jump Right In’ is followed by a song that is just as solid in the album’s title track.  While it’s just as solid a song, its general feel is quite different from ‘Jump Right In.’ This track has more of an Allman Brothers Band feel.  The use of the organ and the guitar work gives the song that feel.  And from the opening verse, listeners get more positive vibe.  Zac sings as the song opens, “Gonna drift to the great wide open/gonna set my spirit free/won’t stop till I reach the ocean/gonna break these chains all in me.”  The song’s second verse is just as uplifting.  He sings on verse two, “Gonna swim in the coldest river/gonna drink from a mountain spring/Live in the land of the great wide open/let the water roll all over me.”  The remainder of the song carries that same uplifting vibe.  Both musically and lyrically, it will get any listener moving.

The band kicks into a bluegrass vibe after these two songs in the album’s fourth track, ‘The Wind.’  Brown picks with the best of them in this song.  Rather than being one of the standard country style songs of lost love, Brown pays tribute to a very special woman.  He sings in this song, “Where the wind blows baby/you can bet/I’ll be ridin’ high with it/holdin’ on for my dear life just like I always did/Close yoru eyes babe/take a breath/say my name/and I’ll be there/My love will find you anywhere/anywhere, my love.”  The guitar breaks and musical backing in general make this one of the album’s top songs.  It would be no surprise if this song becomes one of the album’s singles.

Fans of ZBB in North Carolina will take pride knowing that “Uncaged” was recorded in the old north state.  It was recorded at Asheville’s Echo Mountain Recording.  Among the big name artists and bands that have recorded at Echo Mountain are the likes of:  Dierks Bentley, Darkest Hour, Soilwork, Smashing Pumpkins, and T. Bone Burnett, just to name a handful.  The studio’s list of who has recorded there is far longer.

“Uncaged” is available in stores and online now.  The band is currently touring in support of the album.  Fans in North Carolina will get to see the band live when it makes a stop at Charlotte’s Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.  Fans can keep up with all the latest news and tour dates from Zac Brown band online in the meantime at http://www.zacbrownband.com, http://www.facebook.com/zacbrownband, and http://twitter.com/zacbrownband.
