ESPN’s NFL Studio Shows Getting New Digs

ESPN;s NFL pre-game shows are moving in together.

Monday Night Countdown and Sunday NFL Countdown will now air from a climate-controlled rooftop studio in New York City. The move is the result of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, ESPN’s NBA Countdown will originate from the studio, which gives its hosts a clear view of the East River, Brooklyn Bridge, and Brooklyn Heights.

ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown aired live from ESPN’s Bristol, CT studios in seasons past while Monday Night Countdown aired on site weekly from the site of each of ESPN’s featured weekly games.

The gang will be back together on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown‘s. Tedy Bruschi, Matt Hasselbeck, Randy Moss and Rex Ryan will return for the weekly broadcast. host Sam Ponder will also return to host. This year will mark her fourth year as the show’s anchor and her 10th year covering the NFL with ESPN.

Along with the studio talent, reporters Sal Paolantonio, Kimberley A. Martin, Dianna Russini, Ed Werder, Jeff Darlington, and Dan Graziano will all return for this season’s broadcasts. They will be on site at various NFL stadiums throughout the season. Paolantonio recently celebrated his 25th year with ESPN.

The reporters’ assignments for Week 1 of the 2020 season are noted below.

Paolantonio – Philadelphia at Washington
Graziano – Miami at New England
Russini – Green Bay at Minnesota
Martin – Cleveland at Baltimore
Darlington – Tampa Bay at New Orleans
Werder – Dallas at Los Angeles Rams

While fans can expect to see plenty of familiar faces on Sunday NFL Countdown, Monday Night Countdown will have at least one new face this season. Two-time Super BowlChampion Booger Mcfarland will join Randy Moss and three-time Super Bowl champion/Super Bowl MVP/Pro Football Hall of Fame Inductee Steve Young for that program.

Host Suzy Kolber returns to host the show for her fourth consecutive season. ESPN Insider Adam Schefter will also return as a regular.

ESPN’s season premiere of Monday Night Countdown will preview the Steelers/Giants – Titans/Broncos double header schedule that will open the network’s annual Monday Night Football schedule. The schedule launches Sept. 14.

Carolina, Washington Close NFL’s Week 15 Schedule Live On ESPN

Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers go under the lights live Monday night on ESPN when they take on the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.

Last season’s runners-up in the Super Bowl, the Panthers have struggled to repeat last season’s success this season. Carolina sits last in the NFC South at 5 – 8 so far on the season. The “Cardiac Cats” are 4 – 5 in their conference, 1 – 3 in non-conference play, and 2 – 3 in their last five games. Their last win came last week as they defeated the San Diego Chargers 28 – 16.

A win by the Panthers Monday night coupled with a loss by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday would potentially pull the Panthers out of the NFC South basement. That’s because both teams sit at 5 – 8 on the season.

The Panthers’ playoff hopes are slim to nil win or lose Monday night. On the other hand, Monday night’s game has even more importance for Washington, which sits 3^rd in the NFC East at 7 – 5 – 1 so far on the season with its only tie coming earlier in the season against Cincinnati.

Washington’s NFC East opponents, the Dallas Cowboys, have already punched their ticket to the postseason. Washington comes into Monday night’s game on the heels of a 27 – 22 win over Philadelphia in Week 14. Washington has also proven better at home on the road this season than on the road, going 4 – 2 at home and 3 – 3 – 1 on the road.

Monday’s NFC Inter-Divisional matchup can go either way. The Panthers have nothing to lose while Washington has much more to lose. So each team will be giving its all once the lights go on and the cameras go live.

Sean McDonough will have the call for Monday’s matchup beginning at 8:15 p.m. He will be joined in the booth by Jon Gruden for additional commentary. Reporter Lisa Salters will be on the sidelines for all of the latest in-game news and interviews.

NFL features reporter Michelle Beisner-Buck, ESPN Insider Adam Schefter and the MNF broadcast team will also join the broadcast for additional commentary. Chris Berman and special guest (and with former ESPN NFL analyst) Tom Jackson will offer additional insight and commentary during the broadcast, too. Jackson’s appearance is part of Berman’s NFL Legends initiative.

Monday’s game will be simulcast in Spanish on ESPN Deportes for the network’s Spanish-speaking audiences. It will also stream live online on WatchESPN and the ESPN app.

Bengals, Giants Wrap Week 10 In The NFL Monday Night On ESPN

ESPN will feature a cross-conference matchup Monday night when the Bengals and Giants go under the lights live on Monday Night Football.

Monday’s matchup between Cincinnati and New York will be equally important for both teams. The Giants (5 – 3 – 0) currently sit second in the NFC East, second only to Dallas. The team is riding the success of a 3-game win streak coming into Monday night.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati (3 – 4 – 1) has struggled this season in the AFC North. The team current sits third in the division behind Baltimore and Pittsburgh, who both sit at 4 – 4 on the season so far.

Two weeks ago, Cincinnati’s game against the Washington Redskins in London ended in a 27 all tie after kicker Mike Nugent missed a kick that could have given the Bengals the win. Nugent since took full responsibility for the missed kick.

Cincinnati had a bye week last week, so it has had time to lick its wounds and figure out how to rebound from that disappointing finish.

Kickoff for Monday’s broadcast, live from New York, is scheduled for 8:15 pm EST. Sean McDonough will have the call for Monday’s broadcast. Bears, Eagles Face Off In NFC Inter-Divisional Matchup Monday Night On ESPN

The Bears and Eagles face off in week 2 of the NFL’s 2016 – ’17 regular season Monday night on ESPN.

Jay Cutler and the Bears will look to rebound from a Week 1 loss to the Texans Monday night as they take on rookie QB Carson Wentz and the Philadelphia Eagles on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. The Eagles opened the season last week with a convincing 29 – 10 win over the Cleveland Browns and look to ride that momentum into another win this week when they come into Chicago.

The Bears currently sit last in the NFC North while the Eagles are flying high in the NFC East, vying for the top spot in the division. The Eagles sit second in the division to the now 2 – 0 New York Giants.

Bengals Go Prime Time For The First Time This Season In Week 10 Closer

ESPN will feature an AFC match-up Monday night as the worldwide leader in sports closes out week ten in the NFL.

Next week on ESPN’s Monday Night Football, the Cincinnati Bengals will host the Houston Texans. Houston (3 – 5) has struggled this season despite sitting second in the AFC behind the 4 – 5 Indianapolis Colts. Houston has gone 2 – 3 in its last five games but won its last game against the Titans 20 – 6 in week nine. On the other side of the coin, Cincinnati is one of only three undefeated teams left in the league this season, sitting at 8 – 0. However, Cincinnati’s prime time record has been a point of contention for the team in recent years. That means that Monday’s match against Houston will be a big one for Andy Dalton and company. It will be just the first of now four total night games that the team will play this season, which adds even more importance to the game.

Kickoff for Monday night’s game is set for 8:15pm ET. Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden will be in the booth for the call. Next week on ESPN’s Monday Night Football the worldwide leader will close out week 9 of the NFL’s 2015 – 2016 season with an inter-conference matchup between two teams that are struggling to get out of their conferences’ respective basements.

ESPN’s flagship NFL broadcast will feature a showdown between the Chicago Bears and San Diego Chargers next Monday. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:10pm ET and will be preceded by ESPN’s weekly Monday Night Countdown pre-game broadcast at 6pm ET. Before the 2015 – 2016 NFL season kicked off, very few of the major talking heads out there had much faith in the Carolina Panthers. Many felt that the Panthers would even come close to the playoffs. Now almost halfway through the regular season, Carolina sits undefeated at 6 – 0. Now next Monday, Cam Newton and company will look to stay undefeated as they go under the lights to take on Andrew Luck and the AFC South-leading Indianapolis Colts.

Next Monday night, ESPN’s Monday Night Football will broadcast live from Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte as Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers host Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. The 3 – 4 Colts lead the AFC South and have gone 3-2 in their last five games while the Panthers have not yet been taken down. ESPN will have another battle of first versus worst next week on Monday Night Football when the Arizona Cardinals welcome the struggling Baltimore Ravens to University of Phoenix Stadium.

Week 7 of the NFL’s 2015 – 2016 season wraps Monday night on ESPN in an NFC/AFC showdown as Carson Palmer and the Arizona Cardinals play host to Joe Flacco and the struggling Baltimore Ravens. Arizona currently sits atop the NFC West at 4 – 2 while the Ravens sit last in the AFC North at 1 – 5 so far on the season, well behind the division-leading Cincinnati Bengals and the second place Steelers who defeated Arizona last week to improve to 4 – 2 on the season so far and dropping the Cardinals to the same record. The Ravens lost last week to San Francisco in a hard fought battle 25 – 20.

It’s First Versus The Worst Next Monday on ESPN

Week Six of the NFL’s 2015 regular season closes out next Monday with a battle of first versus worst as the Eagles host the Giants in an NFC East divisional match-up live on ESPN.

Next week’s edition of ESPN’s Monday Night Football will feature an NFC East showdown as the division-leading Giants travel to Philadelphia to take on the Eagles, who sit in the basement in that division. The Giants come into Monday night’s game 3 – 2 so far on the season, riding the high of a three-game streak while the Eagles, who are currently 2 – 3 so far on the season, will be looking to just get back to .500. Philadelphia’s last win was in Week Five against the Saints 39 – 17. The Eagles outplayed the Saints from start to finish, holding New Orleans to just two touchdowns and a fieldgoal over the course of four quarters. The Eagles have scroed only 117 points so far this season and have given up 100 along the way while the G-Men have picked up 132 points total and allowed only 109 against. That is a difference of fifteen points scored between the two teams and only nine allowed between them. And looking at both teams’ play over four quarters week-to-week, it looks like Monday night’s matchup is sure to be a big one for both teams despite starkly different records so far this season.

Chargers, Steelers Go Under The Lights Next Week On MNF

Next Monday night ESPN will feature an inter-divisional matchup between two AFC opponents on Monday Night Football.

Next week’s edition of Monday Night Football will feature an AFC inter-divisional matchup when the 2 – 2 San Diego Chargers host the Pittsburgh Steelers, who also currently sit at 2 – 2 so far on the season. Monday’s matchup between the Chargers and Steelers is sure to be a big one as both teams come into Monday night’s game on the heels of their own wins over the Browns and Ravens respectively. Both wins were by the slimmest of margins, too with Pittsburgh coming up short in overtime 23 – 20 while the Chargers edged the Browns 30 – 27 in regulation in a hard-fought back and forth battle between the AFC opponents. San Diego QB Phillip Rivers went 23 of 38 in the Chargers’ win, throwing for a total of 358 yards and three TDs while Cleveland’s Josh McCown was just as impressive throwing 32 of 41 for a total of 356 yards and two TDs. Looking at the Steelers’ matchup against the Ravens, Steelers QB Michael Vick outperformed Baltimore’s Joe Flacco completing 19 of 26 passes for a total of 124 yards and just 1 TD. By comparison Flacco completed 20 of 33 passes for a total of 189 yards but still finished the game with just 1 TD. The Chargers and Browns were almost as evenly matched carrying the ball. By the numbers this all means that Monday’s matchup between the Steelers and Chargers is bound to be a big one for both teams. Kickoff for Monday’s game is currently scheduled for 8:15pm ET.
