Randy Moss Added To ESPN’s On-Air Roster

NFL on ESPN Logo

ESPN is known to audiences as “The worldwide leader in sports.”  That is due in part to the number of sports that it covers and the quality of its coverage of said sports.  It is also because of the personalities who fill the network’s ranks and those of the ESPN family of networks.  Now it has bolstered that reputation even more as it has announced that it has added another major name to its on-air roster.  That name is NFL great Randy Moss.

Randy Moss was one of the NFL’s most polarizing figures during his time on the field.  Now he will be a part of the game on the other side of the screen.  ESPN announced today the he will serve as an analyst on the networks’ weekly NFL broadcasts of Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown live from the site of each Monday Night Football game.  It was also announced that along with those duties, Moss will also be part of ESPN’s annual Super Bowl week coverage.  Seth Markman is Senior Coordinating Producer for ESPN’s NFL studio shows.  He was not afraid to touch on Moss’ reputation while discussing the NFL great’s addition to ESPN’s on-air roster.  “As a player and now as an analyst, Randy has always been candid, direct and compelling; when he talks about football and other topics, you are instantly drawn to what he has to say,” he said.  He also noted having Moss alongside two other NFL greats in Matt Hasselbeck and Charles Woodson for the network’s in-studio broadcasts.  “With Matthew Hasselbeck, Charles Woodson and now Randy joining ESPN this offseason, we have added three dynamic, new voices to our studio team, all of whom are widely known and respected among football fans,” he said.  Moss shared Markman’s sentiment in a statement released to the press.  “ESPN is the No. 1 sports channel in the world! Now I’m a part of a network I grew up running home to watch,” he said.  The team that has been put together has so much football knowledge to share and I can’t wait to get started. I feel very blessed and excited for this opportunity. It’s going be a great and fun year.”

Before joining ESPN’s ranks Moss worked as an analyst for Fox Sports’ Sunday morning NFL kickoff show FOX NFL Kickoff among other programs.  Moss Was originally drafted #21 overall by the Minnesota Vikings in 1998.  He wasted no time showing off his talents and value.  He had 69 catches in his rookie season for a total of 1,313 yards and a league-leading 17 touchdowns, averaging 35.6 yards per touchdown.  That is not only a league-leading stat but also an NFL rookie record.  These numbers garnered Moss the 1998 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.  It also earned him an invite in his rookie year to the Pro Bowl. He was the only rookie first-team All Pro, too as the Vikings would go on that year to a record of 15 – 1.  His 1998 invite to the Pro Bowl was just the first of what would be six appearances at what is the NFL’s own “All-Star” game.    His other appearances came in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2007.  In 2007, Moss scored an NFL single-season record 23 receiving touchdowns.  That was one of five times that he was named the league’s NFL touchdown leader.  The same year he caught 98 passes for a total of 1,493 yards.  That helped take the Patriots (with whom he played at the time), to Super Bowl XLII and a perfect 16 – 0 regular season record.

Moss eventually retired in 2012.  During his 14 total seasons on the field he had amassed a total of 15,292 career yards and 982 receptions.  That includes 156 for touchdowns.  During his time as a player he was also named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 2000s.  And when the Vikings celebrated the team’s 50th anniversary, he was named one of the team’s 50 greatest players.

ESPN Adds Woodson To Its NFL Broadcast Team

NFL on ESPN Logo

Earlier this week ESPN announced a major addition to its NBA broadcast team. Now an announcement has come down about another big name joining the worldwide leader in sports.

Charles Woodson has joined ESPN as the network’s latest addition to its NFL broadcast team. Woodson, a Super Bowl Champion and nine-time Pro Bowl defensive back, recently announced his retirement from the NFL. Now he will continue his NFL career on the other side of the game as an analyst for ESPN. He will now be part of ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown. He will also make appearances on other ESPN studio shows and platforms. A firm date for his on-air debut has not yet been announced. However it is known that he will make his debut in July.

Seth Markman, ESPN’s senior coordinating producer for NFL shows noted Woodson’s accomplishments over the course of his career and the respect that he earned during his career as major reasons for his addition to ESPN’s NFL staff. “Charles is one of the most accomplished players of his era and he is held in such high regard by players, coaches and fans for the way he played the game and led his teams, he said. He will be a tremendous addition to ESPN and to our Sunday and Monday Countdown teams,” said Seth Markman, ESPN’s senior coordinating producer, NFL studio shows.

Woodson was humble in discussing his new appointment noting the reputation that Sunday NFL Countdown and Monday Night Countdown have helped build for ESPN. “I would like to thank ESPN for this incredible opportunity to join their Sunday and Monday Night Countdown shows. I look forward to carrying on their strong tradition and gaining the respect of those who came before me and those who will follow me,” he said. I’m extremely honored and can’t wait to get started.”

Woodson’s list of accomplishments during his career reads like a who’s who of the sport. He is one of one of very fe players in NFL history to play in a Pro Bowl in three different decades (1990s, 2000s, and 2010s). He played with the Oakland Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII and earned a Super Bowl Championship as a member of the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl XLV. He won the Heisman Trophy in 1997 and a National Championship as a member of the Michigan Wolverines. He went on from there to be drafted fourth overall by the Raiders in the 1998 NFL Draft and tapped as the NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year that same year.

During his NFL career, Woodson was named the 2009 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award and was named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team (2000s). He is tied for fifth place on the league’s all-time interceptions list (65), and most career defensive touchdowns (13). He is second all-time for interceptions returned for touchdowns (11) and amassed 1,003 tackles, 20 sacks and 28 forced fumbles over 254 regular-season games. That is the second-most games of any defensive back in NFL history. He also twice led the NFL in Interceptions—9 in 2009 and seven in 2011.

Adding to his accomplishments and accolades, Woodson was awarded the league’s Art Rooney Sportsmanship award as he finished his NFL career.

Metallica To Stream Its First Concert Of The Year Online

There has been a lot of speculation in recent months about whether or not Metallica will release the follow-up to its hit 2013 album Death Magnetic this year. Now Metallica is in the headlines for another reason that is just as exciting. The band will hold its first live performance of the year this weekend. And fans in attendance won’t be the only ones that will get to see the show.

Metallica will hold its first live performance of the year this weekend when it takes to the stage this Saturday at AT&T Park as the headliners for CBS Radio’s The Night Before. the concert is a celebration set to build expectations for this Sunday’s Super Bowl 50, which will be held live at Levi Stadium in San Francisco, Metallica’s home town. And fans that won’t be able to be there in person need not worry about missing out. That is because the band is going to stream the concert online and for free no less. It will be streamed online for free in 1080p FullHD at http://webcast.livemetallica.com, delivered by nugs.net. The band is currently scheduled to take the stage promptly at 8:30pm PST/11:30PM EST. Metallica drummer and founding member Lars Ulrich spoke with the media about this weekend’s year-opening concert. In discussing the concert he explained the decision to perform at this weekend’s event and the band’s reason for sharing the concert for free online. “We can’t wait to play our first show of 2016 and there’s nowhere we’d rather kick off the festivities than in our own backyard,” he said. “Even though the show has been sold out for months, Metallica fans around the world will be able to join in on the madness.”

nugs.net founder and CEO Brad Serling also shared his thoughts on the upcoming concert noting the importance of the first-ever HD stream of the band’s performance at its website.

“We’ve released audio recordings of every Metallica show for the past 12 years at LiveMetallica.com,” he said. So naturally we’re excited to deliver the band’s first live HD stream from their hometown on their own website.”

This weekend’s free broadcast from Metallica and nugs.net is not the first online stream from nugs.net. The company has also streamed pay-per-view webcasts of performances from Phish at Madison Square Garden over New Year’s and 2015’s Grateful Dead “Fare Thee Well” shows at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

Strait Rides Away In Style In His Final Live Performance

Courtesy: Eagle Rock Entertainment

Legendary country musician George Strait’s days on the road are officially over. On June 7, 2014, the man known lovingly within the country music world as “The King of Country” wrapped the final leg of his tour fittingly dubbed “The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.” The tour wrapped at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. It should be noted that while the show marked the end of his days on the road, it didn’t mark the end of his recording career. Of course Judas Priest’s members said the same thing some years ago and look how that turned out. So time will tell if he has indeed parked his tour bus for the last time. Regardless, Strait’s fans and country music fans in general can now own that landmark concert for themselves thanks to the people at Eagle Rock Entertainment. The leading name in live recordings, Eagle Rock Entertainment released The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium late this summer exclusively on DVD and digital formats. It goes without saying that whether one is a fan of the country music royalty, a fan of real country music or a little of both, this recording is a must for each. The central reason for that is the show’s extensive forty-song set list, which runs just short of three hours. Strait’s stage presence and that of his fellow country artists is another reason that fans will enjoy this recording. Last but hardly least worth noting is the concert’s production values. Even on DVD its production values are top-notch. They make the show’s near three-hour run time well worth it both in regards to the show’s set list and the performers’ stage presence. All things told, The Cowboy Rides Away Live From AT&T Stadium proves in the end to be a recording that every George Strait fan will enjoy just as much as any fan of real country music.

The Cowboy Rides Away Live from AT&T Stadium is a must have for any George Strait fan and any fan of real country music. So much can be said as to why this is the case. Jumping right in, the central reason for its success is its extensive forty-song set list. Covering so much ground it can be said of the near three-hour performance that it is one of those rare live shows released in recent years that is truly deserving of being called career-spanning. What’s more the very fact that Strait opted for such a rich set list is in itself groundbreaking. That is because few if any other acts out there past or present have ever released single performance recordings with so many songs. Even acts such as The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Who, and others have never released such an expansive single-show recording. That in itself speaks volumes about this recording. That every featured song is a fan favorite says even more. One of the bet of the show’s best is ‘Murder on Music Row,’ which he performs here with fellow veteran artist Alan Jackson. There’s a lot of truth in that song. Real country music is hard to find nowadays. There seems to be more southern rock and pop country out there today than real, pure country. On a different note (no pun intended) ‘I Saw God Today’ is another of the show’s best moments. The tender ballad sung from the vantage point of a new parent will bring a smile (and tears) to every fan’s face. The all-star performance of his classic hit ‘All My Ex’s Live In Texas’ is one more of the show’s best moments. It’s obvious that the performers had just as much fun performing the song as did the audience singing along. What’s more seeing so many great names representing country’s past, present, and future on one stage essentially honoring one of country’s greatest names of all time gives this performance even more of a special meaning. It’s just one of so many examples of the importance of the show’s songs in the big picture of the show’s set list. Of course the songs chosen for this show are just one part of what makes the set list in whole so important to the recording’s overall positive impact. The ordering of the songs is just as important as the songs themselves.

The songs that make up the concert’s set list make more than enough reason for Strait’s fans and real country fans alike to watch this recording. However, they are only one part of the set list that makes it so important to the whole of the recording. The ordering of the songs is just as pivotal to the show’s enjoyment as the songs themselves. Audiences will be quite impressed in taking in this concert to note the balance of its more upbeat moments with its softer, more emotional moments. From one song to the next Strait and company build the show’s energy and pull it back at just the right points from beginning to end. The end result is a near three-hour performance that will keep fans at home just as engaged as those that were in attendance at the concert’s taping. The mix of that smart sequencing with song after song that every fan will enjoy makes this concert one that even being Strait’s last live show potentially ever is one that fans will want to watch again and again.

The set list chosen for Strait’s final show and its sequencing make for more than enough reason for any George Strait fan and real country music fan alike to watch this recording. They are just a small part of the whole that makes the concert so enjoyable. Strait’s stage performance (and that of his guests) plays its own important role in the concert’s overall effect. Throughout the course of the concert, Strait maintains an almost unassuming demeanor. It could be argued that it actually presents Strait as having this full sense of humility. He doesn’t try to run around the stage and put on a certain kind of persona. it is more along the lines of a what-you-see-is-what-you-get persona. It’s nice to see such a humble persona. Believe it or not it adds quite a bit to the concert’s overall effect on fans. By contrast, his guests–of whom includes the likes of Alan Jackson, Vince Gill, Sheryl Crow, Eric Church, Martina McBride and others–are more energetic by and large. The juxtaposition of Strait’s stage presence to those of his fellow musicians makes for even more enjoyment. And when coupled with the show’s set list, both elements solidify the reason for fans to add this recording to their own home DVD libraries even more so. The combination of both elements would mean little, though without proper production values–the last of the recording’s positives.

Both the set list chosen for George Strait’s “final” live performance and the stage presence of Strait and his fellow musicians are equally important to the overall effect of this recording. Of course neither would be of any importance without proper production values. Luckily for fans the production values presented in the concert contained herein are of the utmost expertise. Even presented on DVD, it looks and sounds just as good as being there if not better. That could be chalked up just as much to the equipment at Strait’s disposal as those charged with manning the boards for the show. The same can be said of those charged with the show’s audio in post-production. On the side of the show’s video mix, having a slowly circulating stage could not have hurt the camera crew. On the one hand it offered the camera crew and co-directors Danny O’Bryen and Brian Lockwood plenty of options for good shots. That is because the stage was set dead center in the stadium as if it was set up for the Super Bowl’s half time show. The camera crew could shoot from on stage, from the crowd (especially since the stage wasn’t that high above the stadium floor), and from so many other angles. Having so many options and so much talent, the result of the production crew’s work is a concert that gives home viewers an even better seat than those in attendance from beginning to end. And coupled with an audio mix that is just as impressive, Strait’s performance (and that of his guests) coupled with the show’s rich, expansive set list proves to be a concert experience that is a wonderful final performance from a legendary artist should it in fact prove to be his last.

George Strait’s performance from June 7th, 2014 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas is largely believed to be the legendary country musician’s final live performance. If indeed it proves years down the road to be his final live performance, then it is a wonderful way for Strait to go out. That is even with Strait claiming that he will still continue to record new music while no longer touring. The show’s rich set list will please every one of his fans as it more than lives up to the honor of being called a career-spanning show. The sequencing of the show’s songs, Strait’s performance (and that of his guests), and the show’s expert production values come together to make the concert whole and one that fans of all ages will enjoy with every watch. It is a wonderful final performance from a legendary artist that even if it is his last, will hopefully not be his last recorded concert to ever be released. The Band Perry Receives Two ACM Award Nominations

Good news for The Band Perry.  The superstar country music trio has been nominated for two ACM Awards.

The announcement was made this week that the band has been nominated for “Vocal Group of the Year” and “Music Video of the Year.”  The second of the nominations from the Academy of Country Music is for the video for the band’s #1 single, ‘Better Dig Two.’  That song was also the lead single from the band’s latest album, Pioneer.  This year marks the third consecutive year that The Band Perry has been nominated for “Vocal Group of the Year.”  It is the fourth consecutive year that the trio has received nominations from the Academy of Country Music.  The band’s biggest year to date was 2011.  It was that year that the band received five total ACM nominations.  It won the award that year for “New Artist of the Year.”

Reid Perry spoke on behalf of the band after the announcement.  He expressed the band’s excitement of being nominated again, and getting to come to Las Vegas again.  Las Vegas is the home of the ACM Awards, which will be broadcast on CBS April 6th on CBS.  “It’s such an honor to find out about our two ACM Award nominations,” he said.  “We love the theatrics that happen in Vegas, and remember, what happens in Vegas … gets broadcast on live TV.”

The announcement of the band’s latest nominations comes at a high time for the band as it is scheduled to perform live on Fox as part of the network’s Super Bowl pre-game party.  The band will perform alongside American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips.  Reid’s brother and fellow band mate Neil jokingly discussed the band’s anticipation of playing the pre-game show and being back in temperatures above zero.  “We’re all huge football fans, and there’s nothing more exciting than to be a part of football’s biggest day,” he said. “We’ve been up in Canada on our We Are Pioneers World Tour for the past month, so we’re just glad it will be above zero degrees in New York!”

The band won’t be slowing down any time soon after its performance this weekend on Fox.  That performance is just part of its ongoing North American tour in support of Pioneer.  It will be in Independence, MO next Thursday, February 6th.  The band also has a planned performance later this Spring in North Carolina.  It is scheduled to perform live in Cherokee, North Carolina on Friday, April 25th at the Harrah’s Cherokee.  The band’s latest schedule of performances is listed below.
