The Dollyrots Debuts New Single, ‘Still Holding On,’ Lyric Video

Punk rock outfit The Dollyrots kicked off the weekend with the premiere of its latest single and video.

The band unveiled its new single, ‘Still Holding On‘ and the song’s companion lyric video Friday. The song’s musical arrangement is a catchy, upbeat composition that will appeal easily to any pop punk fan just as much as the band’s established audiences.

Lyrically, the song is a social commentary of sorts, according to vocalist/bassist Kelly Ogden.

“It’s a song about counting on the people you love to get you through the strangeness of modern life,” Ogden said. “The lyric video features an AI generated version of me, a digital reminder of how off-kilter the Future is becoming.”

The video in question features Ogden on screen as the song’s lyrics are presented all around her as she simply stands in classic rock position, bass in front of her as if she was on stage performing.

The Von Tramps Tapped To Join The Dollyrots For “The Hey Girl 2023 Tour”

Courtesy: SBAM Records

Punk rock band The Von Tramps will join The Dollyrots on the road this week.

The tour, dubbed “The Hey Girl 2023 Tour,” is scheduled to launch March 9 in Chicago, IL and to run through March 19 in Detroit, MI. The upcoming live run takes the bands largely throughout the Midwest, with performances also scheduled in cities, such as Bloomington, IL; Cleveland, OH and Milwaukee, WI.

The Von Tramps’ run on the upcoming tour is in support of its latest album, Go. According to information provided in the news release announcing The Von Tramps’ new live dates, Go is a concept album.

Band member Jenna Enemy discussed the record’s concept in a prepared statement.

GO is all about momentum”, Enemy said. “Coming out of the pandemic, all we could think about was how far we could go, when we could go. By being forced into a break from our everyday lives we were also forced to reflect on it; and ultimately found the mundane can trap your soul, if you’re not careful. We hope ‘GO’ inspires future listeners to break through these pressures in order to find a more honest version of life lived fully and creatively.”

The Dollyrots Debuts New Single; Announces New Tour Schedule

Courtesy: Wicked Cool Records

The Dollyrots debuted its latest single this week.

The band premiered its new single, ‘Too Fun For My Health’ Thursday through BrooklynVegan. The song is the latest single from the group’s forthcoming compilation record, Down The Rabbit Hole, which was originally schedule for release Jan. 7 through Wicked Cool Records and is now scheduled for release Jan. 21. The band premiered the record’s lead single, ‘Just Like All The Rest‘ last month.

The musical arrangement featured in ‘Too Fun For My Health’ is a catch, infectious work centered around the pairing of the vocal harmonies and guitars. The solid time keeping and the bass line add just enough accent to the work to make the whole completely engaging and entertaining.

The press release announcing the song’s premiere did not address the song’s lyrical theme. Listening through the song closely, the lyrics that can be deciphered sans lyrics hint at a theme of a person contemplating how he/she has changed along with his/her friends who were one way a long time ago but different as years have gone on. This is just this critic’s own interpretation and should not be taken as the only interpretation.

The Dollyrots will open 2022 with a new collection of music.

The band announced through a news release Wednesday, it is scheduled to release its new compilation record, Down The Rabbit Hole Jan. 7 through Wicked Cool Records. The 24-song collection is a compilation of b-sides and rarities from the band, as well as covers performed by the band.

In anticipation of the record’s pending release, The Dollyrots premiered the lyric video for one of the record’s tracks, ‘Just Like All The Rest‘ Tuesday. The song features a catchy arrangement that is grounded in it bass and guitar lines. They and the vocals of singer Kelly Ogden join with equally rich sound of the drums to make the whole a work that will appeal equally to pop punk and rock fans alike.

The lyrical theme in this song is straight forward. It about a woman who is looking for a man who has certain standards and as she sings, “won’t settle for less.” It is an empowering message for the group’s female audiences.
